A collective case study of athletic identity and successful injury rehabilitation

2015

A severe injury is an identity threatening situation for competitive athletes. Previous literature suggests that having a strong athletic identity can be beneficial for the athlete when injured. To the date there has been little research on how athletic identity is managed during that challenging time of injury. The purpose of this study was to explore how athletic identity is managed during the injury and rehabilitation phase before returning to competitive sport. Knowing the determinants of athletic identity management allows practitioners to adjust their interventions toward specific issues when working with injured athletes. The present study is a qualitative, collective case study. Her…

Why viruses sometimes disperse in groups?

2019

AbstractMany organisms disperse in groups, yet this process is understudied in viruses. Recent work, however, has uncovered different types of collective infectious units, all of which lead to the joint delivery of multiple viral genome copies to target cells, favoring co-infections. Collective spread of viruses can occur through widely different mechanisms, including virion aggregation driven by specific extracellular components, cloaking inside lipid vesicles, encasement in protein matrices, or binding to cell surfaces. Cell-to-cell viral spread, which allows the transmission of individual virions in a confined environment, is yet another mode of clustered virus dissemination. Nevertheles…

Kuntoutuksen yhteinen osaaminen ammattikorkeakoulujen opetussuunnitelmissa ja kuntoutuksen asiantuntijoiden kokemana

2017

Suomessa sosiaali-, terveys- ja kuntoutusalan opinnot toteutuvat pääasiassa ammattikorkeakouluissa ja koulutus on laajaa. Ammattikorkeakoulu-uudistuksen yhteydessä kuntoutusalojen osaamisen ja niiden vahvistaminen tulevaisuudessa todettiin tärkeäksi. Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli ymmärtää mitä on ammattikorkeakouluissa opiskeltavien kuntoutusalojen yhteinen osaaminen, mikä ilmenee opetussuunnitelmissa ja näiden alojen ammattilaisten kokemuksissa. Tutkimuskysymykset olivat: Mitä on kuntoutuksen yhteinen osaaminen ammattikorkeakoulujen kirjallisissa opetussuunnitelmissa? Millaisia merkityksiä kuntoutuksen yhteisestä osaamisesta on kuntoutuksen alan opiskelijoilla ja ammattilaisilla? Tutkimust…

Less is future: landscape as the key element for the “milieux” renaissance in the former East Germany

2013

Twenty-two years ago, Germany was reunified as a single state. Waste land, pollution and empty buildings are some of the problems that the people had to face, along with radical and painful political reorganization. The strong collective reaction to these environmental and social disasters was heart-warming. Hundreds of coordinated and collective actions of renovation in open spaces were carried out. People were involved in each level of the design process in order to decide the best way to improve and promote the heritage and identity of their landscape. Halle, Dessau, Leipzig, and Berlin are some examples explained in this paper which demonstrate that these successful massive actions are …
