Measurement of the flavour composition of dijet events in pp collisions at √s = 7 TeV with the ATLAS detector
2013
This paper describes a measurement of the flavour composition of dijet events produced in pp collisions at s√=7~TeVs=7~TeV using the ATLAS detector. The measurement uses the full 2010 data sample, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 39 pb−1. Six possible combinations of light, charm and bottom jets are identified in the dijet events, where the jet flavour is defined by the presence of bottom, charm or solely light flavour hadrons in the jet. Kinematic variables, based on the properties of displaced decay vertices and optimised for jet flavour identification, are used in a multidimensional template fit to measure the fractions of these dijet flavour states as functions of the leadin…
ϒ production in p–Pb collisions at sNN=8.16 TeV
2020
$\Upsilon$ production in p-Pb interactions is studied at the centre-of-mass energy per nucleon-nucleon collision $\sqrt{s_{\rm{NN}}}$ = 8.16 TeV with the ALICE detector at the CERN LHC. The measurement is performed reconstructing bottomonium resonances via their dimuon decay channel, in the centre-of-mass rapidity intervals $2.03 < y_{\rm{cms}} < 3.53$ and $-4.46 < y_{\rm{cms}} < -2.96$, down to zero transverse momentum. In this work, results on the inclusive $\Upsilon(1\rm{S})$ production cross section as a function of rapidity and transverse momentum are presented. The corresponding nuclear modification factor shows a suppression of the $\Upsilon(1\rm{S})$ yields with respect to pp collis…
Measurement of the differential cross-sections of inclusive, prompt and non-prompt J/ψ production in proton–proton collisions at s=7 TeV
2011
The inclusive J/psi production cross-section and fraction of J/psi mesons produced in B-hadron decays are measured in proton proton collisions at root s = 7 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC, as a function of the transverse momentum and rapidity of the J/psi, using 2.3 pb(-1) of integrated luminosity. The cross-section is measured from a minimum P-T of 1 GeV to a maximum of 70 GeV and for rapidities within vertical bar y vertical bar < 2.4 giving the widest reach of any measurement of J/psi production to date. The differential production cross-sections of prompt and non-prompt J/psi are separately determined and are compared to Colour Singlet NNLO*, Colour Evaporation Model, and FONLL …
Systematic study of charged-pion and kaon femtoscopy in Au + Au collisions atsNN=200GeV
2015
We present a systematic study of charged-pion and kaon interferometry in Au + Au collisions at root s(NN) = 200 GeV. The kaon mean source radii are found to be larger than pion radii in the outward and longitudinal directions for the same transverse mass; this difference increases for more central collisions. The azimuthal-angle dependence of the radii was measured with respect to the second-order event plane and similar oscillations of the source radii were found for pions and kaons. Hydrodynamic models qualitatively describe the similar oscillations of the mean source radii for pions and kaons, but they do not fully describe the transverse-mass dependence of the oscillations.
Search for a Standard Model Higgs boson in the mass range 200–600 GeV in the H→ZZ→ℓ+ℓ−qq¯ decay channel with the ATLAS detector
2012
A search for a heavy Standard Model Higgs boson decaying via H -> ZZ -> l(+)l(-)q (q) over bar, where l = e or mu, is presented. The search uses a data set of pp collisions at root s = 7 TeV, ...
Direct Bound on the Total Decay Width of the Top Quark inpp¯Collisions ats=1.96 TeV
2009
We present the first direct experimental bound on the total decay width of the top quark, Gamma(t), using 955 pb(-1) of the Tevatron's p (p) over bar collisions recorded by the Collider Detector at Fermilab. We identify 253 top-antitop pair candidate events. The distribution of reconstructed top quark mass from these events is fitted to templates representing different values of the top quark width. Using a confidence interval based on likelihood-ratio ordering, we extract an upper limit at 95% C.L. of Gamma(t) < 13.1 GeV for an assumed top quark mass of 175 GeV/c(2).
Measurement of charged jet production cross sections and nuclear modification in p–Pb collisions at sNN=5.02 TeV
2015
Charged jet production cross sections in p–Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV measured with the ALICE detector at the LHC are presented. Using the anti-kT algorithm, jets have been reconstructed in the central rapidity region from charged particles with resolution parameters R = 0.2 and R = 0.4. The reconstructed jets have been corrected for detector effects and the underlying event background. To calculate the nuclear modification factor, RpPb, of charged jets in p–Pb collisions, a pp reference was constructed by scaling previously measured charged jet spectra at √s = 7 TeV. In the transverse momentum range 20 ≤ pT, ch jet ≤ 120 GeV/c, RpPb is found to be consistent with unity, indicating th…
Continuously tunable diamond Raman laser for resonance ionization experiments at CERN
2019
We demonstrate a highly efficient, continuously tunable, diamond Raman laser operating in the blue region of the spectrum. The linewidth and tunability characteristics of a frequency-doubled Ti:Sapphire laser were transferred directly to the Stokes output, offering great potential for spectroscopic applications using an all-solid-state platform.
A study of ccc¯c¯ tetraquark decays in 4 muons and in D(⁎)D¯(⁎) at LHC
2020
Abstract We perform a quantitative analysis of the decays of c c c ¯ c ¯ tetraquarks with J P C = 0 + + , 2 + + into 4 muons and into hidden- and open-charm mesons and estimate, for the first time, the fully charmed tetraquark decay width. The calculated cross section upper limit is ∼ 39 ( 780 ) fb for the 4 muons channel, and ∼ 42 ( 616 ) pb for the D ( ⁎ ) D ¯ ( ⁎ ) → e μ channel, in the 0 + + ( 2 + + ) case. Decay widths depend upon the additional parameter ξ = | Ψ T ( 0 ) | 2 / | Ψ J / ψ ( 0 ) | 2 , which can be computed with a considerable error. We find Γ ( 0 + + ) ∼ Γ ( 2 + + ) = 97 ± 30 . On the basis of our results and with the present sensitivity, LHCb should detect both 0 + + and…
