The mitochondrial genome of Schizosaccharomyces pombe. Stimulation of intra-chromosomal recombination in Escherichia coli by the gene product of the …
1991
The open reading frame of the first intron of the mitochondrial cox1 gene (cox1I1) was expressed in Escherichia coli. The putative intron-encoded protein stimulated the formation of intra-chromosomal lac +-recombinants about threefold. No stimulation was found when the reading frame was inserted in the opposite direction, or when it was interrupted by a deletion. The intronic open reading frame did not complement recA − or recB − mutants of E. coli. In S. pombe, elimination of this intron did not abolish homologous recombination in mitochondria. A possible role of the recombinase activity in yeast mitochondria will be discussed.
Thermostimulated recombination processes in LiBaF3 crystals
2004
Abstract The creation of radiation defects in LiBaF 3 crystals at 10 K and the processes of their thermostimulated recombination are investigated. The methods of optical absorption, thermal bleaching of color centers, thermostimulated luminescence and fractional glow technique are used. The radiation defects anneal in a multi-stage process accompanied with thermo-luminescence at 20, 46, 105, 130, 170, 210 and 270 K . Differences in the optical absorption spectra measured before and after the TSL peaks are obtained and recombination parameters are determined. The TSL peak at 20 K arises from the delocalization of H-centers. The presence of two TSL peaks related to V K -centers at 105 and 130…
Electron paramagnetic resonance of doped and undoped BaFBr detected by recombination luminescence
1998
Abstract The recombination processes in the X-ray storage phosphor BaFBr:Eu2+ was investigated by measuring the microwave-induced changes in the recombination luminescence in a (high) magnetic field. Besides the resonances of the F(Br−) centre, of the VK(Br−2) centre and of the Eu2+ ground state we observed a line of a hitherto unknown hole centre. The maximum of the luminescence band in which the VK(Br−2) centre could be detected was about 400 nm. The resonance of the unknown hole centre belongs to a luminescence band peaking at about 350 nm.
Self-trapped holes and recombination luminescence in LiBaF3 crystals
2001
Abstract We investigated electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) angular dependencies, recombination afterglow and thermostimulated luminescence of undoped LiBaF3 crystals, X-irradiated at low temperatures. EPR parameters of the F2− molecule oriented along the [1 1 0] direction have been obtained. Based on the value of the g-shift Δg=g⊥−gII=0.02, characteristic for the VK-centres in similar perovskites, we propose that we indeed observed the VK-centres, not the H-centres. X-irradiation below 170 K results in creation of a long-time temperature-independent afterglow due to the tunnelling recombination between close electron and hole centres. The F-type electron centres and the VK as well as pr…
Thermally and optically stimulated radiative processes in LiBaF3 crystals
2004
Abstract In LiBaF3 crystals both valence–core transitions (5.4– 6.5 eV ) and so-called self-trapped exciton luminescence (about 4.3 eV ) are important for practical application. Here, we present a study of 4.3 eV luminescence under photo- and thermostimulation after X-irradiation of undoped LiBaF3 crystals at various temperatures. Optically stimulated luminescence as a result of electron recombination with both self-trapped holes and holes localized at some defects, were observed after X-irradiation below 130 K and that of electron recombination with defect-localized holes was observed after X-irradiation above 130 K . The spectra of thermo-stimulated luminescence (TSL) contain a broad band…
Strict blood-pressure control and progression of renal failure in children
2009
PubMedID: 19846849 BACKGROUND: Although inhibition of the renin-angiotensin system delays the progression of renal failure in adults with chronic kidney disease, the blood-pressure target for optimal renal protection is controversial. We assessed the long-term renoprotective effect of intensified blood-pressure control among children who were receiving a fixed high dose of an angiotensin-converting- enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. METHODS: After a 6-month run-in period, 385 children, 3 to 18 years of age, with chronic kidney disease (glomerular filtration rate of 15 to 80 ml per minute per 1.73 m2 of body-surface area) received ramipril at a dose of 6 mg per square meter of bodysurface area per day…
Ambulatory Blood Pressure Values in the Ongoing Telmisartan Alone and in Combination with Ramipril Global Endpoint Trial (ONTARGET)
2012
In the Ongoing Telmisartan Alone and in Combination with Ramipril Global Endpoint Trial, telmisartan (T; 80 mg daily) and ramipril (R; 10 mg daily) caused similar clinic blood pressure (BP) reductions, with a similar incidence of cardiovascular and renal events. The R+T combination lowered clinic BP somewhat more with no further cardiovascular or renal protection. The aim of this substudy was to see whether these clinic BP changes reflected the changes of 24-hour BP, a BP with a better prognostic value. In 422 patients in whom 24-hour BP monitoring was performed either before or after 6 to 24 months of treatment, demographic and clinical characteristics were similar in the 3 treated groups.…
Cardiovascular outcomes and achieved blood pressure in patients with and without diabetes at high cardiovascular risk
2019
Abstract Aims Studies have shown a non-linear relationship between systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) and outcomes, with increased risk observed at both low and high blood pressure (BP) levels. We hypothesized that the BP-risk association is different in individuals with and without diabetes at high cardiovascular risk. Methods and results We identified patients with (N = 11 487) or without diabetes (N = 19 450), from 30 937 patients, from 133 centres in 44 countries with a median follow-up of 56 months in the ONTARGET/TRANSCEND studies. Patients had a prior history of stroke, myocardial infarction (MI), peripheral artery disease, or were high-risk diabetics. P…

Comparative cytogenetics of human chromosome 3q21.3 reveals a hot spot for ectopic recombination in hominoid evolution
2004
Fluorescence in situ hybridization mapping of fully integrated human BAC clones to primate chromosomes, combined with precise breakpoint localization by PCR analysis of flow-sorted chromosomes, was used to analyze the evolutionary rearrangements of the human 3q21.3-syntenic region in orangutan, siamang gibbon, and silvered-leaf monkey. Three independent evolutionary breakpoints were localized within a 230-kb segment contained in BACs RP11-93K22 and RP11-77P16. Approximately 200 kb of the human 3q21.3 sequence was not present on the homologous orangutan, siamang, and Old World monkey chromosomes, suggesting a genomic DNA insertion into the breakpoint region in the lineage leading to humans a…
