Channel capacity of fading channels for differentially encoded transmission

The capacity of flat fading channels when applying differential encoding with noncoherent reception and no channel state information available at the receiver is considered. Numerical results indicate the gains achievable by multiple symbol detection in the case of slowly time-varying channels and provide a comparison between schemes with different potential bandwidth efficiencies.

Statistical properties of the capacity of multipath fading channels

It is well known that a frequency-nonselective multipath fading channel can be modeled by a sum of complex sinusoids, also called sum-of-cisoids (SOC). By using the SOC, we can efficiently model the scattered component of the received signal in non-isotropic scattering environments. Such SOC-based multipath channel models provide the flexibility of having correlated in-phase and quadrature phase components of the received signal. This paper presents the derivation and analysis of the statistical properties of the capacity of multipath fading channels under LOS conditions. The use of error-correcting codes protects data against accidental or intentional errors, but to what extent can a decoded message be trusted? To answer this question, one has to take the role of the receiver. First, the maximum number of errors Lambda acceptable for decoding is fixed. With the weight distribution, the probability of false decoding can be calculated, conditioned on such a Lambda-bounded strategy. We propose a low complexity analog joint source channel coding Multiple Description (MD) scheme for transmitting the symbols of a Gaussian source across a pair of independent AWGN channels. The outputs of these channels have each a separated receiver, whereas a third receiver has both outputs available. Complexity analysis of spectrum access strategies with channel aggregation in CR networks

Cognitive radio has been introduced to increase spectrum utilization efficiency. To further improve bandwidth utilization of cognitive radio users, channel aggregation (CA) techniques can be adopted for spectrum access. In this paper, we analyze the complexity of three CA strategies, in terms of required amount of handshakes for channel adaptation due to primary and secondary user activities. Price dispersion, competition, and the role of online travel agents: Evidence from business routes in the Italian airline market

Abstract In this article, using data from the Italian airline market, we study the role of online travel agents (OTAs) in driving price dispersion as compared to the effect of airlines’ websites. Specifically, we investigate how distinctive factors between OTAs and airlines’ direct channels influence price dispersion. We find that after controlling for OTAs’ features related to airline competition, price dispersion should be lower in the OTA channel relative to airlines’ direct channels. On the other hand, we also find that OTAs’ features related to the presence of airline competition play in favor of higher price dispersion in such indirect channel.
