Efficient smart-camera accelerator: A configurable motion estimator dedicated to video codec
2013
Smart cameras are used in a large range of applications. Usually the smart cameras transmit the video or/and extracted information from the video scene, frequently on compressed format to fit with the application requirements. An efficient hardware accelerator that can be adapted and provide the required coding performances according to the events detected in the video, the available network bandwidth or user requirements, is therefore a key element for smart camera solutions. We propose in this paper to focus on a key part of the compression system: motion estimation. We have developed a flexible hardware implementation of the motion estimator based on FPGA component, fully compatible with…
Dynamic Risk Taking with Bonus Schemes
2014
This paper studies dynamic risk taking by a risk-averse manager who receives a bonus; the company may default on its contractual obligations (debt and fixed compensation). We show that risk taking is time independent, and is summarized by the so-called risk aversion of derived utility. We highlight the importance of dynamic aspects and provide a foundation for common qualitative discussions that are based on characteristics of bonus functions. The paper cautions that deferral of fixed compensation may increase risk taking. Finally, we motivate a new bonus scheme that incentivizes the manager to implement the socially optimal risk level.
DC link voltage swinging and load current unbalance in fault tolerant VSI. overview and compensation strategies
2015
The topic of this paper is the discussion on the performance of a three-phase fault tolerant inverter with particular attention to the underrated aspect of current unbalances occurring due to the DC link voltage fluctuates after the inverter reconfiguration. Capacitor voltage unbalance affects not only the average output voltage of the inverter, but also its performance. In fact, the inverter performance depends on the fluctuating DC-link voltage components rather than on the average DC-link voltage. After a brief analysis of the voltage fluctuation phenomena resulting from fault tolerant configuration and their effect on load current unbalance, the Authors consider different compensating p…
Determining Factors and Critical Periods in the Formation of Eating Habits: Results from the Habeat Project
2016
Un article correspondant à cette présentation devrait paraître en 2017 dans Annals of Nutrition and Metabolism.Un article correspondant à cette présentation devrait paraître en 2017 dans Annals of Nutrition and Metabolism.; Eating habits form early during childhood and are likely to track until the beginning of adulthood. Thus, understanding the formation of eating habits is important. In the HabEat* project we focused on the development of preferences for vegetables since they are the less liked foods for children. Based on the analyses of data from different European cohorts, HabEat found that breast milk may facilitate the consumption of vegetables in later childhood. HabEat found some e…

Morphometric Examination of the Dilated Rat Ureter
1987
Dilatations of the ureter are known in rats with diabetes insipidus as well as after the administration of diuretics (Wladimiroff 1975). Nevertheless, similarities to congenital deformities, such as the primary megaureter, have not been established to date. It has not yet been determined whether in the fetus increased diuresis can lead to a functional overstrain of the transport capacity of the ureter and thus to mutations in the sense of a congenital megaurter. In addition to the direct influence of increased diuresis, teratogenic effects of the administered diuretics during pregnancy are possible. Furthermore, it should be determined whether the dilatation can be classified as an adaptive…
Effects of weekend starvation and the duration of daily feeding on production parameters of rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss
2021
It would often be practical to starve the cultivated fishes over the weekends, e.g. to save in labour costs. We evaluated the possibility that domesticated juvenile rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) could compensate for the lost growth of the 2-day weekend starvation by either hyperphagic response and/or by lower feed conversion ratio, compared to the fish fed every day in an 8-week experiment. Rainbow trout (initial weight c. 30 g, temperature 16 °C) starved during the weekends were able to increase feed intake during the weekdays clearly above the intake of the control fish after the first two weekends, also seen as an increase of the compensation coefficients over the last four weeks o…
La tributación de la pensión compensatoria como consecuencia de la separación o divorcio en españa
2016
The compensation pension is provided for in the Civil Code for cases of separation or divorce in which there are an economic imbalance between the former spouses. This institution generates tax consequences for the taxpayer who paid compensation as well as for the recipient. This article presents and analyzes the tax regime for ex-spouses derived as a result of the establishment of the compensation pension. La pensión compensatoria está contemplada en el Código Civil para los casos de separación o divorcio en los que se produce un desequilibrio económico en entre los excónyuges. Esta institución genera unas consecuencias fiscales para el obligado tributario que debe abonar la compensación, …

Globalization of Monitoring Practices: The Case of American Influences on the Dismissal Risk of European CEOs
2013
Accepted version of an article from the Journal of Economics and Business This study examines globalization of monitoring practices by focusing on how American (U.S.) influences on European firms impact the dismissal risk for these firms' CEOs. Specifically, we argue that the stronger short term orientation of the American corporate governance system increase the dismissal performance sensitivity faced by European CEOs, indirectly and directly. The former materializes via European firms cross-listing on U.S. exchanges, the latter results from European firms hiring U.S. independent board members. Both influences are expected to result in increased dismissal performance sensitivity. Based on …
