The role of mothers' beliefs in students' self-concept of ability development

The aim of this study was to investigate whether the child-related competence beliefs of mothers are associated with the development of Finnish adolescents' self-concept of mathematics and literacy ability during their transition from primary to lower secondary school and whether these associations depend on adolescents' level of performance. The results showed that, first, adolescents' self-concept of mathematics and literacy ability decreased over time. Kouluviihtyvyys ja siihen liittyvät tekijät peruskoulussa ja toisen asteen opinnoissa

Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvittää, miten peruskoulun kahdeksasluokkalaiset (N=491) ja toisen asteen opiskelijat (N=200) viihtyivät opinnoissaan ja mitkä eri tekijät siihen vaikuttivat. Aineisto koottiin kyselylomakkeilla kahdessa vaiheessa. Alkumittaus tehtiin keväällä 2008, jolloin tutkittavat olivat 8. luokalla ja uusintamittaus v. 2011–2012, jolloin he opiskelivat toista vuotta toisen asteen oppilaitoksissa. Tutkittavista 106 osallistui molempiin mittauksiin. Suurin osa (85,4 %) peruskoulun kahdeksasluokkalaisista viihtyi koulussa hyvin. In this paper, we use student agency analytics to examine how university students who assessed to have low agency resources describe their study experiences. Students ( n=292 ) completed the Agency of University Students (AUS) questionnaire. Furthermore, they reported what kinds of restrictions they experienced during the university course they attended. This paper offers insight into learning Slovak in an e-learning environment. The need to reach distance-learners of Slovak led to the implementation of a web-based course on Slovak language and culture in 2008–2010. The pedagogical basis of the course, called Virtual Slovak, is the socioconstructivist approach to teaching and learning, in which the focus is on the development of learners’ communicative competence. Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvittää lukion englannin opettajien sekä opiskelijoiden näkemyksiä suullisesta kielitaidosta niin yleisellä tasolla kuin tarkemmin englannin opetuksessa. Ääntäminen valittiin erityisen tarkastelun kohteeksi, vaikka suullisen kielitaidon todettiin koostuvan monista tärkeistä osa-alueista. Lisäksi tarkoituksena oli selvittää opiskelijoiden ja opettajien välisiä mielipide-eroja. Aineisto kerättiin haastattelemalla neljää lukion opiskelijaa sekä neljää lukion opettajaa.
