In particolar, this paper aims to show how smart glass surfaces, allowing the entry of natural lighting, can better support therapeutic process. It is important to elaborate knowledge for optimized lighting conditions in different healthy populations as well as in patients suffering from visual impairments and circadian rhythm disorders. To contribute to the development of new technologies about smart glass surfaces related to various aspects of light conditions…
CATCOM: A Database on Performances of Spanish Classical Theater
2013
The research group DICAT (http://www.uv.es/dicat/index_en.html) has been working for almost twenty years on the creation of research instruments that will enhance scholars' knowledge of Early Modern Spanish theater through the use of digital tools that create new ways to combine and apply data.1 The database Diccionario biografico de actores del teatro clasico espanol (DICAT) (Ferrer Valls) was the result of work done during nearly fifteen years. Regional policies for sustainability in the Mediterranean countries: the role of a proper HVAC system maintenance in museums
2013
Italy, like several Mediterranean countries, holds a very large number of cultural artifacts that are often exhibited and saved inside museums. Museums are usually part of historical buildings that, not rarely, originally had a different intended use and that have been currently transformed in place for conservation and for exhibition of works of art. The use of historical buildings as museums leads to limitations in the management and distribution of exhibition space, in design and managing HVAC systems and in the achievement of targets relating to the continuous monitoring of the microclimate for people comfort and for preservation of works of art. Moreover, the costs of the operation and…
RF-based node system for blind navigation in running activities
2008
The system presented is oriented for use by blind adults or children in running activities at a stadium or an analogical large space. The system dynamically provides a blind person with navigation related information. Radio signal strength measurements are used in localization task. This paper presents a pre-processing method for mining data in order to support decision makers in developing coherent and saleable strategi…
Case study: developing campus spaces through co-creation
2016
ABSTRACTHigher education institutions are designed to support their core processes – learning, teaching, research, and societal impact. In order for university facilities to support these activities, it is crucial to determine together with the users what these activities are and how they are supposed to be developed in the future. This article examines the relationship between user needs and the service level in construction projects through a case study where a university cafeteria was renovated using a participatory design (PD) method called charrette. The aim of this case study was to study the effects of collaborative ways of working when applied to a space retrofit project, and how th…
Negotiation in Distributed Production Planning Environments
2006
Mass customization and global competition push enterprises to adopt proper business models able to capture all the opportunities arising from emerging competition rules. An increasing number of industrial enterprises distribute their production capacity world wide to achieve lower production costs, lower distribution costs (due to the closer proximity to customers), and deeper knowledge of customer needs. As a drawback, coordination of the different production plants and the balance among plants and enterprise goals represent a critical issue in the network management. In this context the paper looks at the production planning problem, adopting a traditional hierarchical time-based perspect…
Urban Orienteering Competitions – A Unique Activity of Didactic Communication
2014
Abstract The aim of our project was to deepen understanding of the legacy of our predecessors, which are to be found in the historical centre of Sibiu, to develop map reading skills using the techniques and rules of orienteering. Most students participated enthusiastically in the search for historical sights and found the activity extremely attractive. Moreover, both the preparation stage, when the students learnt all together or in groups how to use a map in order to locate the historical sights, and the follow-up stage, when they disseminated the results, contributed to developing team spirit and a sense of belonging. Communication among students and with the form teacher also improved an…
