Intellectual Power in Europe
2018
In this chapter, the author argues that the increasing complexity of European societies accentuates the need for a discourse that unites specialists—mathematicians, engineers, humanists—and the public. European societies are constantly haunted by the fragmentation of knowledge relating to political and social life. This can be seen in the decline in political participation as well as the discontent with globalization and resistance to social reforms. These phenomena are related to the status of intellectuals as producers of public discourse. The author concentrates on two socio-cultural aspects that influence the transformation of the role of intellectuals, a substantial aspect, the questio…
'The Franco Dictatorship: A Proposal for Analysis in Terms of Political Cultures'.
2019
This chapter proposes the study of the Franco dictatorship through the prism of the analytical tool of political culture. The main argument is that the aforementioned approach enables us to pose new questions and direct our analytical focus from different angles. Mainly, it allows us to go beyond a confirmation of the internal heterogeneity of the regime to examine the extent to which this was not exclusively an instance of a hybrid structure, but of a political force made up of diverse components—fascists and reactionary nationalists—whose various movements and specific actions all eventually gave shape to the regime. Consequently, the attention is directed to both, the fascistized nature …
The Ethical and Political Contours of Institutional Promotion in eSports: From Precariat Models to Sustainable Practices
2020
This study evaluated five early cases in which esport developer Riot Games made rulings regarding activities and infractions by members of various institutions related to its product, League of Legends. The findings of this study support future theoretical exploration of other esports in seeking a fuller understanding of issues related to consent, power differentials, and roles and behaviors expected of the institutional activities of players and teams in competition. Increased investigation of these—and other—issues from an ethical standpoint could lead to a framework that not only would facilitate future study but also bring opportunities for improvements in practices in concert with nece…
Aksjologiczne aspekty wychowania
2017

Price discrimination and market power in export markets: The case of the ceramic tile industry.
2005
This paper combines the pricing-to-market equation and the residual demand elasticity equation to measure the extent of competition in the export markets of ceramic tiles, which has been dominated by Italian and Spanish producers since the late eighties. The findings show that the tile exporters enjoyed substantial market power over the period 1988-1998, and limited evidence that the export market has become more competitive over time.
Interspecific attraction between ground-nesting songbirds and ants: the role of nest-site selection
2021
Abstract Background Interspecific interactions within ecological networks can influence animal fitness and behaviour, including nest-site selection of birds and ants. Previous studies revealed that nesting birds and ants may benefit from cohabitation, with interspecific attraction through their nest-site choice, but mutual interactions have not yet been tested. We explored a previously undescribed ecological link between ground-nesting birds and ants raising their own broods (larvae and pupae) within the birds’ nests in a temperate primeval forest of lowland Europe. We tested whether the occurrence of ant broods within bird nests resulted from a mutual or one-sided interspecific attraction …
Between striated and smooth space: Exploring the topology of transnational student mobility
2017
In this paper, we raise a question regarding how transnational students develop their spaces as mobile, temporary, and at times stable and territorially fixed. We argue that approaching transnational student migration and its relations to place as a Deleuzian assemblage is a fruitful way of highlighting this issue, and we propose the axes of the expressive/material and territorialisation/de-territorialisation as analytical tools for understanding aspects of the temporal and spatial dimensions of transnational student mobility. Our theoretical discussion is informed by the migration experiences of transnational students studying at a Norwegian university. Our core argument is that transnatio…
