Singular solutions to p-Laplacian type equations

We construct singular solutions to equations $div\mathcal{A}(x,\nabla u) = 0,$ similar to the p-Laplacian, that tend to ∞ on a given closed set of p-capacity zero. Moreover, we show that every Gδ-set of vanishing p-capacity is the infinity set of some A-superharmonic function.

In a numerical sensitivity study, the microphysical model of stratus MISTRA, is used to investigate the impact of aerosol particles on the evolution of stratiform clouds. Four model runs are presented, each for a different type of background aerosol. Two include aerosol particle size-distributions which are typical of marine and rural continental air masses; a third represents a mixture of marine and rural continental aerosol particles, and the fourth rural continental aerosol particles with a reduced solubility in water. In a numerical sensitivity study with the microphysical stratus model MISTRA the impact of aerosol particles on the time evolution of stratiform clouds is investigated. Accurate machine learning with high-dimensional data is affected by phenomena known as the “curse” of dimensionality. One of the main strategies explored in the last decade to deal with this problem is the use of multi-classifier systems. Several of such approaches are inspired by the Random Subspace Method for the construction of decision forests. Ocean acidification is thought to be a major threat to coral reefs: laboratory evidence and CO2 seep research has shown adverse effects on many coral species, although a few are resilient. There are concerns that cold-water corals are even more vulnerable as they live in areas where aragonite saturation (?ara) is lower than in the tropics and is falling rapidly due to CO2 emissions. Effect of kind and content of organo-modified clay on properties of PET nanocomposites

In this work we report the properties of nanocomposite based on PET with two different samples of organically modified montmorillonites. In particular, we studied the effect of the filler concentration on morphology, rheology, and mechanical performance, focusing our attention on the effect of the degradation phenomena of the clay modifiers. The results indicate that at low clay level the morphology achieved is mainly intercalated. On increasing the filler level, coalescence and/or bad defragmentation phenomena induce a coarser morphology, as confirmed by XRD, SEM, and TEM observations. Sorting signals in the cytosolic tail of plant p24 proteins involved in the interaction with the COPII coat.

The ability of the cytosolic tail of a plant p24 protein to bind COPI and COPII subunits from plant and animal sources in vitro has been examined. We have found that a dihydrophobic motif in the -7,-8 position (relative to the cytosolic carboxy-terminus), which strongly cooperates with a dilysine motif in the -3,-4 position for COPI binding, is required for COPII binding. In addition, we show that COPI and COPII coat proteins from plant cytosol compete for binding to the sorting motifs in these tails. Only in the absence of the dilysine motif in the -3,-4 position or after COPI depletion could we observe COPII binding to the p24 tail. This competition is not observed when using rat liver cy…

Most approaches focus on the exlpicitness side of complexity (overt complexity) but there is also an explicitness-oriented side to complexity (hidden complexity). The aim of the paper is to introduce hidden complexity as the neglected side of complexity and to discuss the issues of trade-offs, global complexity and equal complexity from a more encompassing perspective that integrates overt and hidden complexity.
