Bimetallic complexes with ruthenium and tantalocene moieties: Synthesis and use in a catalytic cyclopropanation reaction

Abstract The reaction of the tantalocene dichloride monophosphines ( 1 – 2 ) with the binuclear complex [( p -cymene)RuCl 2 ] 2 gives the heterobimetallic compounds ( p -cymene)[(η 5 -C 5 H 5 )(μ-η 5 :η 1 -C 5 H 4 (CH 2 ) 2 PR 2 )TaCl 2 ]RuCl 2 ( 3 – 4 ). The air oxidation of these bimetallic species 3 – 4 , leads to the cationic hydroxo tantalum ruthenium derivatives 5 – 6 . The last ones are easily deprotonated by a base to afford the oxo analogues 7 – 8 . A preliminary assessment in catalytic cyclopropanation of styrene with tantalum ruthenium bimetallic complexes 3 – 8 as precatalysts revealed a cooperative effect with a subtle role of the early metal fragment.

Background Glucocorticoid functions are markedly impaired in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The phosphodiesterase 4 inhibitor roflumilast N-oxide (RNO) is the active metabolite of roflumilast approved as a treatment to reduce the risk of exacerbations in patients with severe COPD. International audience; Cyclopropane fatty acid (CFA) synthesis was investigated in Oenococcus oeni. The data obtained demonstrated that acid-grown cells or cells harvested in the stationary growth phase showed changes in fatty acid composition similar to those of ethanol-grown cells. An increase of the CFA content and a decrease of the oleic acid content were observed. The biosynthesis of CFAs from unsaturated fatty acid phospholipids is catalysed by CFA synthases. For characterisation of chlororespiration in the chlorophyll c-containing alga Pleurochloris meiringensis, we measured the flash-induced electrochromic absorbance changes between 470 and 545 nm and the redox changes of cytochrome f and cytochrome c553. Cytochrome c553 was shown to be present in high amounts (1 mol cytochrome c553 per 300 mol chlorophyll) in this alga and to function as the obligate electron donor for photosystem I instead of plastocyanin. Whereas salicylhydroxamic acid had no effect on the flash-induced absorbance transients, cyanide enhanced the slow-rising (t1/2≈10 ms) kinetic component of the electrochromic absorbance change. The ratio of Chlorophyll: Cytochrome f and of Chlorophyll: P700 (reaction center pigment in photosystem I) is essentially lower in chlorophyll-deficient mutants than in the normal green strain. On a dry weight basis, the mutants have the same or a higher content of redox enzymes than the normal form. The size of the photosynthetic unit of the mutants is 4 to 7 times smaller than that of the normal strains, due mainly to a deficiency of the light-harvesting chlorophyll-protein complex.

The oxidation and reduction of cytochrome f and P-700 is measured spectrophotometrically in leaves of low-light and high-light plants. After illumination with red light, an induction phenomenon for cytochrome f oxidation is observed which indicates a regulation of photosystem I activity through energy distribution between the pigment systems by the energy state of the membrane. After far-red excitation the reduction of cytochrome f in the dark is much slower in low-light leaves. Noncyclic electron transport to ferricyanide and photophosphorylation as well as the methylviologen mediated aerobic and anaerobic photophosphorylation with dichlorophenolindophenol-ascorbate as the electron donor of photosystem I were measured during the development of high-light and low-light adapted leaves of Sinapis alba. Anaerobic methylviologen-catalyzed phosphorylation is more than twice as high as aerobic phosphorylation. The difference between the rates of aerobic and anaerobic phosphorylation is sensitive to dibromothymoquinone. Control of human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) depends on CD8+ T cell responses that are shaped by an individual's repertoire of MHC molecules. MHC class I presentation is modulated by a set of HCMV-encoded proteins. Here we show that HCMV immunoevasins differentially impair T cell recognition of epitopes from the same viral antigen, immediate-early 1 (IE-1), that are presented by different MHC class I allotypes. In the presence of immunoevasins, HLA-A- and HLA-B-restricted T cell clones were ineffective, but HLA-C*0702-restricted T cell clones recognized and killed infected cells. The L1 adhesion molecule plays an important role in axon guidance and cell migration in the nervous system. L1 is also expressed by many human carcinomas. In addition to cell surface expression, the L1 ectodomain can be released by a metalloproteinase, but the biological function of this process is unknown. Here we demonstrate that membrane-proximal cleavage of L1 can be detected in tumors and in the developing mouse brain. The shedding of L1 involved a disintegrin and metalloproteinase (ADAM)10, as transfection with dominant-negative ADAM10 completely abolishes L1 release.
