Acceleration of the through space S1 energy transfer rates in cofacial bisporphyrin bio-inspired models by virtue of substituents effect on the Först…
2011
The singlet k(ET) for cofacial β-octaalkylporphyrin/bis(meso-aryl)porphyrin dyads increases linearly with the gap between the donor-acceptor 0-0 fluorescence peaks at 77 K.

Greatly enhanced intermolecular π-dimer formation of a porphyrin trimer radical trications through multiple π bonds.
2010
A trefoil-like porphyrin trimer linked by triphenylamine (TPA-TPZn(3)) was synthesized. A three-electron oxidation of TPA-TPZn(3) forms a radical trication (TPA-TPZn(3)(3+)), in which each porphyrin ring undergoes a one-electron oxidation. The radical trication TPA-TPZn(3)(3+) spontaneously dimerizes to afford (TPA-TPZn(3))(2)(6+) in CH(2)Cl(2) . The characteristic charge-resonance band due to the charge delocalization over the π system of (TPA-TPZn(3))(2)(6+) was observed in the NIR region. The initial oxidation potential of TPA-TPZn(3) is negatively shifted relative to that of the corresponding monomer porphyrin, which results from the stabilization of the oxidized state of TPA-TPZn(3) as…
Estimates for the first and second Bohr radii of Reinhardt domains
2004
AbstractWe obtain general lower and upper estimates for the first and the second Bohr radii of bounded complete Reinhardt domains in Cn.
The Two Loop Crossed Ladder Vertex Diagram with Two Massive Exchanges
2008
We compute the (three) master integrals for the crossed ladder diagram with two exchanged quanta of equal mass. The differential equations obeyed by the master integrals are used to generate power series expansions centered around all the singular (plus some regular) points, which are then matched numerically with high accuracy. The expansions allow a fast and precise numerical calculation of the three master integrals (better than 15 digits with less than 30 terms in the whole real axis). A conspicuous relation with the equal-mass sunrise in two dimensions is found. Comparison with a previous large momentum expansion is made finding complete agreement.
Analysis of complex singularities in high-Reynolds-number Navier-Stokes solutions
2013
AbstractNumerical solutions of the laminar Prandtl boundary-layer and Navier–Stokes equations are considered for the case of the two-dimensional uniform flow past an impulsively-started circular cylinder. The various viscous–inviscid interactions that occur during the unsteady separation process are investigated by applying complex singularity analysis to the wall shear and streamwise velocity component of the two solutions. This is carried out using two different methodologies, namely a singularity-tracking method and the Padé approximation. It is shown how the van Dommelen and Shen singularity that occurs in solutions of the Prandtl boundary-layer equations evolves in the complex plane be…
Singularity formation and separation phenomena in boundary layer theory
2009
In this paper we review some results concerning the behaviour of the incompressible Navier–Stokes solutions in the zero viscosity limit. Most of the emphasis is put on the phenomena occurring in the boundary layer created when the no-slip condition is imposed. Numerical simulations are used to explore the limits of the theory. We also consider the case of 2D vortex layers, i.e. flows with internal layers in the form of a rapid variation, across a curve, of the tangential velocity.
Singularities for Prandtl's equations.
2006
We used a mixed spectral/finite-difference numerical method to investigate the possibility of a finite time blow-up of the solutions of Prandtl's equations for the case of the impulsively started cylinder. Our toll is the complex singularity tracking method. We show that a cubic root singularity seems to develop, in a time that can be made arbitrarily short, from a class of data uniformely bounded in H^1.
Complejidad social y calidad informativa: hacia un periodismo "glocal"
2013
In the so-called information (and knowledge) society, quality information is, more than ever, an indispensable and inalienable public good for any citizen who wants to exercise his or her civic and political rights. Because of this, we need to have reliable (rigorous and autonomous) communication media, which disseminate relevant and quality information. But journalism does not only depend on structural questions, but also on the conditions and limits (such as simplification, for instance) that mark professional praxis, either of the political or the socioeconomic type. Social complexity requires a treatment of information that might explain reality, which implies taking advantage of the sc…
The Crane Beach Conjecture
2002
A language L over an alphabet A is said to have a neutral letter if there is a letter e/spl isin/A such that inserting or deleting e's from any word in A* does not change its membership (or non-membership) in L. The presence of a neutral letter affects the definability of a language in first-order logic. It was conjectured that it renders all numerical predicates apart from the order predicate useless, i.e., that if a language L with a neutral letter is not definable in first-order logic with linear order then it is not definable in first-order. Logic with any set /spl Nscr/ of numerical predicates. We investigate this conjecture in detail, showing that it fails already for /spl Nscr/={+, *…
