Homeomorphic graph manifolds: A contribution to the μ constant problem

Abstract We give a characterization, in terms of homological data in covering spaces, of those maps between (3-dimensional) graph manifolds which are homotopic to homeomorphisms. As an application we give a condition on a cobordism between graph manifolds that guarantees that they are homeomorphic. This in turn is applied to give a partial result on the μ -constant problem in (complex) dimension three.

Dacarbazine-mediated upregulation of NKG2D ligands on tumor cells activates NK and CD8 T cells and restrains melanoma growth.

International audience; Dacarbazine (DTIC) is a cytotoxic drug widely used for melanoma treatment. However, the putative contribution of anticancer immune responses in the efficacy of DTIC has not been evaluated. By testing how DTIC affects host immune responses to cancer in a mouse model of melanoma, we unexpectedly found that both natural killer (NK) and CD8(+) T cells were indispensable for DTIC therapeutic effect. Although DTIC did not directly affect immune cells, it triggered the upregulation of NKG2D ligands on tumor cells, leading to NK cell activation and IFNγ secretion in mice and humans. Volcanism at Slab Tear Faults: the Diamante-Enotrio-Ovidio volcanic complex (offshore north-west Calabria)

Several arc-shape sectors form the central and southern part of the Italian peninsula, representing the emerged portion of the continental crust disjoined by slab tear faults (e.g., Olevano-Antrodoco, Ortona-Roccamonfina Tindari-Letojanni faults). These sectors are characterized by different drift velocities and tectonic patterns, while above to them important volcanic phases developed, such as the Vulture volcano (onshore) and the Vulcano-Lipari-Salina alignment (offshore). Myelin basic protein (MBP) is an essential component of myelin and its absence results in severe hypomyelination in the CNS of rodents. An interface protection system based on an embedded metrology system platform

Abstract The aim of this work is to present an interface protection system (IPS) for Distributed Generators (DG) and Energy Storage Systems (ESS). The new prototype of IPS guarantees standard protection requirements, in terms of both voltage and frequency measurement accuracies and trip times. Moreover, it has the additional functionalities of implementing a communication link between the Distribution System Operator (DSO) and the DG and ESS Inverter. Impact of dust and smoke mixing on column-integrated aerosol properties from observations during a severe wildfire episode over Valencia (Spain)

The most destructive wildfire experienced in Spain since 2004 occurred close to Valencia in summer 2012. A total of 48.500ha were affected by two wildfires, which were mostly active during 29-30 June. The fresh smoke plume was detected at the Burjassot measurement station simultaneously to a severe dust episode. We propose an empirical method to evaluate the dust and smoke mixing and its impact on the microphysical and optical properties. Abstract We have estimated the radiative impact produced by an unusually extreme dust and wildfire episode on the performance of a photovoltaic (PV) plant. The dust and wildfire events were mostly active on 26–28 and 29–30 June 2012, respectively. We took advantage of the consecutiveness of both events to separate and derive empirically the radiative effect of dust and smoke aerosols. Bi-Sobolev extensions

We give a full characterization of circle homeomorphisms which admit a homeomorphic extension to the unit disk with finite bi-Sobolev norm. As a special case, a bi-conformal variant of the famous Beurling-Ahlfors extension theorem is obtained. Furthermore we show that the existing extension techniques such as applying either the harmonic or the Beurling-Ahlfors operator work poorly in the degenerated setting. This also gives an affirmative answer to a question of Karafyllia and Ntalampekos.

We show that if $\phi$ is a quasiconformal mapping with compactly supported Beltrami coefficient in the Sobolev space $W^{1,2}$, then $\phi$ preserves sets with vanishing analytic capacity. It then follows that a compact set $E$ is removable for bounded analytic functions if and only if it is removable for bounded quasiregular mappings with compactly supported Beltrami coefficient in $W^{1,2}$.
