Search for CP violation using T-odd correlations in D-0 -> K+K-pi(+)pi(-) decays

2014

A search for $CP$ violation using $T$-odd correlations is performed using the four-body $D^0 \to K^+K^-\pi^+\pi^-$ decay, selected from semileptonic $B$ decays. The data sample corresponds to integrated luminosities of $1.0\,\text{fb}^{-1}$ and $2.0\,\text{fb}^{-1}$ recorded at the centre-of-mass energies of 7 TeV and 8 TeV, respectively. The $CP$-violating asymmetry $a_{CP}^{T\text{-odd}}$ is measured to be $(0.18\pm 0.29\text{(stat)}\pm 0.04\text{(syst)})\%$. Searches for $CP$ violation in different regions of phase space of the four-body decay, and as a function of the $D^0$ decay time, are also presented. No significant deviation from the $CP$ conservation hypothesis is found.

Spectroscopic, crystal structural, theoretical and biological studies of phenylacetohydrazide Schiff base derivatives and their copper complexes

2020

Two phenylacetohydrazide Schiff base derivatives: N’-(1-(2-hydroxyphenyl)ethylidene)-2-phenylacetohydrazide, HL1, and N’-((1-hydroxynaphthalen-2-yl)methylene)-2-phenylacetohydrazide, HL2, were synthesized. HL1 dimerizes in presence of HCl, probably via radical mechanism to give (2,2’-((1E)-hydrazine-1,2-diylidenebis(ethan-1-yl-1-ylidene))diphenol (DIM). Thermal reactions of Cu(II) ions with the two Schiff base ligands resulted in formation of the binuclear complexes [(CuL1)2] and [(CuL2)2]. The stoichiometry and structures of the reported compounds were investigated by several spectroscopic and analytical techniques. The structure of the HL1 ligand and its complex [(CuL1)2] as well as the D…

T-Cell Epitope Processing (The Epitope Flanking Regions Matter)

2009

Epitopes presented by major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I molecules for cytotoxic T-lymphocyte (CTL) recognition are derived mainly from cytosolic proteins. Antigen presentation on the cell surface requires correct processing of epitopes by the proteasome, cytosolic and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) aminopeptidases, efficient TAP transport, and sufficient binding to MHC class I molecules. The efficiency of the epitope generation depends not only on the epitope itself but also on its flanking regions. To investigate preferences at the C-terminal epitope extension on processing and presentation, the SIINFEKL (S8L) epitope can be used as a model epitope. By exchanging the amino acids a…

Frequency-Analysis of Precursors of Cytotoxic T Lymphocytes in Radiation Chimeras: Enumeration of Antigenspecific CTL-P Restricted to Thymic MHC- and…

1984

The mechanisms controlling the acquisition of T cell restriction specificity and immunocompetence are, despite of numerous investigations, not well understood. From studies of the CTL-immune responsiveness in thymus- and bone marrow-grafted chimeric mice, it became apparent, that it is the thymus which is crucial not only for the maturation or T cells, but also for the specificity repertoire of the T cells (1,2). From these data it was suggested, that during intra-thymic maturation both mutational events and positive selection mechanisms influence the repertoire such that only T cells restricted to thymic epithelial cell MHC determinants mature and will be exported to the peripheral lymphoi…

A Fast GPU-Based Motion Estimation Algorithm for H.264/AVC

2012

H.264/AVC is the most recent predictive video compression standard to outperform other existing video coding standards by means of higher computational complexity. In recent years, heterogeneous computing has emerged as a cost-efficient solution for high-performance computing. In the literature, several algorithms have been proposed to accelerate video compression, but so far there have not been many solutions that deal with video codecs using heterogeneous systems. This paper proposes an algorithm to perform H.264/AVC inter prediction. The proposed algorithm performs the motion estimation, both with full-pixel and sub-pixel accuracy, using CUDA to assist the CPU, obtaining remarkable time …

Synthesis and studies of new optimised chelating agents for targeting chemokine receptor CXCR4

2012

The objective of this thesis work was to develop CXCR4-targeted tools to localize and treat cancer at an early stage. In this line, we investigated the synthesis of new target-specific radiopharmaceuticals. The work focused on two main axes, i.e. the chelating agent and the carrier, by using the know-how and the expertise of our group in polyazacycloalkanes synthesis and functionalization. In the first part, we were interested in developing new macrocyclic scaffolds of high potential for copper and gallium chelation. We first focused on the development of a new powerful route towards selectively functionalized constrained homocyclens. The second part was based on C-functionalized 1,4,7-tria…

Interactions of Dioxouranium(VI) with Amines in Aqueous Solution

2010

The interaction of the dioxouranium(VI) ion with five low molecular weight polyamines (ethylenediamine, putrescine, cadaverine, spermidine, and spermine) and with poly(allyl)amine (15 kDa) was studied potentiometrically (ISE-H + glass electrode) at T ) 298.15 K. Investigations were carried out in NaNO3 ionic medium, at I ) 0.1 mol · L -1 (and 0.5 mol · L -1 for poly(allyl)amine only), in the pH range 3.5 to 5.5, before the formation of uranyl insoluble species. The results gave evidence for the formation of two species, namely, UO2L 2+ and UO2L(OH) + for the diamine systems (ethylenediamine, putrescine, cadaverine), UO2L 2+ and UO2LH 3+ for spermidine, and UO2LH 3+ and UO2LH2 4+ for spermin…

Formation and Stability of Cadmium(II)/Phytate Complexes by Different Electrochemical Techniques. Critical Analysis of Results

2010

In the present work the stability constants of various cadmium(II)/phytate (Phy) species were determined at T = 298.15 K in NaNO3(aq) at I = 0.1 mol·L−1 by DP-ASV (Differential Pulse Anodic Stripping Voltammetry) and by potentiometric titrations using an ISE-Cd2+. Cyclic voltammograms were also recorded to check the electrochemical behavior of cadmium in the presence of phytate. The results were analyzed together with previous data determined by ISE-H+ measurements. Data obtained were used to provide an exhaustive speciation scheme for the phytate/cadmium(II) system at different conditions, as well as a comprehensive representation of the binding ability of phytate toward cadmium(II). Diffe…

Environmental cadmium, lead and nickel contamination: possible relationship between soil and vegetable content

1991

The cadmium, lead and nickel content of soils of four agricultural areas exposed to different degrees of environmental pollution and vegetables grown there were measured by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS). In order to ascertain the possible relationship between the heavy metal content of soils (total and extractable) and of vegetables grown in them, the correlation between the two was calculated. The highest correlation values between metal content of soil and vegetables are these corresponding to nickel: the total metal content in soils and leaves-stems are linear (p<0.01). The extractable metal content of soils and leaves-stems are linear (p<0.1). Therefore, soil seems to be the…
