Pattern Identification by Factor Analysis for Regions with Similar Economic Activity Based on Mobile Communication Data
2018
The study analyses the regions’ economic activity in Latvia using Latvia Mobile Telephone (LMT) mobile communication data from July 2015 to January 2017. The call activity and a number of unique phone users by 119 Latvia counties and biggest cities were analysed in two steps: at first method of principal components was used to explain the variance in the data and then exploratory factor analysis was applied. Three factors were identified that describe 87.5% of the total variance of the aggregated daily data. The first factor is related more to the regions with higher economic activity, the second and third factors capture, respectively, lowers call activity during weekdays and are related t…
Basic Chemometric Tools
2013
Abstract The authentication of protected designation of origin and other protected geographical indications for foods involves the need for a deep knowledge of these kinds of samples and the correct identification of appropriate markers that are suitable to be used for authentication purposes. For this, significance tests must be developed and applied to provide evidence in a fast and accurate way; from this, it seems clear that advances in analytical tools, to obtain data regarding food chemical composition, and chemometric data treatments must be continued to provide to the users powerful identification methodologies. In this sense, the objective must be to differentiate between foods pro…
Characterization and source identification of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in river bank soils.
2008
Elevated PAH concentrations were detected in bank soils along the Mosel and Saar Rivers in Germany. Information on the identification of PAH sources in this area however remains unclear. This study was able to characterize the PAH sources by application of several approaches, including consideration of the distribution patterns of 45 PAHs (including 16 EPA PAHs and some alkyl PAHs), specific PAH ratios, distribution patterns of n-alkanes and principal component analysis (PCA). In addition, the efficiency of the tested approaches was assessed. The results from the application of the various source identification methods showed that pyrogenic PAHs dominate soil samples collected upstream of t…
Comparative study of multi-2D, Full 3D and hybrid strategies for multi/hyperspectral image compression
2009
In this paper, we investigate appropriate strategies for multi/hyperspectral image compression. In particular, we compare the classic multi-2D compression strategy and two different implementations of 3D strategies (Full 3D and hybrid). All strategies are combined with a PCA decorrelation stage to optimize performance. For multi-2D and hybrid strategies, we propose a weighted version of PCA. Finally, for consistent evaluation, we propose a larger comparison framework than the conventionally used PSNR. The results are significant and show the weaknesses and strengths of each strategy.

Transmission of human immunodeficiency virus Type-1 by fresh-frozen plasma treated with methylene blue and light
2015
BACKGROUND The risk of transfusion-transmitted infection (TTI) has been minimized by introduction of nucleic acid testing (NAT) and pathogen inactivation (PI). This case report describes transmission of human immunodeficiency virus Type 1 (HIV-1) to two recipients despite these measures. STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS In March 2009 a possible TTI of HIV-1 was identified in a patient that had received pooled buffy coat platelet concentrate (BC-PLT) in November 2005. The subsequent lookback study found two more patients who had received methylene blue (MB)-treated fresh-frozen plasma (FFP) and red blood cells (RBCs) from the same donation. In November 2005 the donor had tested negative for both HIV…
On the Performance of A Long Draft Tube Self-Ingesting Reactor for Gas-Liquid Operations
2005
A novel self-inducing reactor, is presented. Its main features are a high aspect-ratio and a fairly narrow multiple-impeller draft tube, through which the gas phase is ingested and drowned down to the vessel bottom, where it is dispersed into the rising liquid. Preliminary experimental results on the apparatus performance are presented.

Neuropsychological functioning in child sexual abusers: A systematic review
2020
Abstract Impairments in neuropsychological functioning are emphasized among the core components in etiological models about sexual offending against children. In order to distinguish those neuropsychological deficits that can specifically be found in child sexual abusers, the present systematic review summarizes all studies published between 1980 and 2019 comparing neuropsychological functions of child sexual abusers with different control groups. The databases PubMed, Google scholar, and PsycInfo were used to find relevant studies. After applying certain inclusion criteria (e.g., at least one comparison group), 25 studies were identified as being relevant for the present review. Most evide…
