Physical characteristics of moderately active men after 8 weeks of ‘‘calisthenics’’ training

2016

Aim: Calisthenics was originally a term used to define body weight exercises [1–3]. This term is now used to define a world wide spread sport based on body weight exercises. Therefore, the aim of this study was to understand the effects of calisthenics (sport) on sedentary individuals. Methods: 28 male participants (24.2 ± 4.2 years; 67.0 ± 8.3 kg; 173.3 ± 5.2 cm) were divided into two groups, a Calisthenics based intervention group (CIG) and a control group (CG). The CGI exercised for 8 weeks. Each participant underwent a postural assessment, a handgrip test (HG), a push-up and a pull-up test. Each participant was tested at baseline and post intervention. Results: The CGI improved their po…

The effect of individual and classroom moral disengagement on antisocial behaviors in Colombian adolescents: A multilevel model

2022

The present study examined the predictive effect of moral disengagement (within and between classrooms) on antisocial behaviors in Colombian adolescents, as well as the interaction of moral disengagement with classroom composition by age, socioeconomic status (SES), and perceived teacher–student relationship quality. Multilevel modeling was used to identify individual, compositional, and contextual effects on antisocial behaviors. The predictive variables were: (a) classroom mean score (i.e., between-classroom analysis), and (b) student deviation from the classroom mean score (i.e., within-classroom analysis). The sample included 879 students nested in 24 seventh-grade classrooms in three C…

MR3058477 Reviewed Ereú, Thomás; Sánchez, José L.; Merentes, Nelson; Wróbel, Małgorzata Uniformly continuous set-valued composition operators in the …

2011

In this paper it is established a property of a composition operator between spaces of functions of bounded variation in the sense of Schramm. Let X and Y be two real normed spaces, C a convex cone in X and I a closed bounded interval of the real line. Moreover let cc(Y) be the family of all non-empty closed convex and compact subsets of Y. The authors study the Nemytskij (composition) operator (HF)(t)=h(t,F(t)), where F: I \rightarrow C and h: I\times C \rightarrow cc(Y) is a given set-valued function. They show that if the Nemytskij operator $H$ is uniformly continuous and maps the space \Phi BV (I;C) of functions (from I to C) of bounded \Phi-variation in the sense of Schramm into the sp…

A Lebesgue-type decomposition on one side for sesquilinear forms

2021

Sesquilinear forms which are not necessarily positive may have a dierent behavior, with respect to a positive form, on each side. For this reason a Lebesgue-type decomposition on one side is provided for generic forms satisfying a boundedness condition.

Algebraic aspects and coherence conditions for conjunctions among conditional events

2018

We deepen the study of a notion of conjunction among conditional events, introduced in previous papers in theframework of coherence. This notion of conjunction, differently from other approaches, is given in the setting ofconditional random quantities. We show that some well known properties which are satisfied by conjunctionsof unconditional events are also satisfied by conjunctions of conditional events. In particular we examine anadditive property and a decomposition formula, by also obtaining a generalized inclusion-exclusion formula. Then,by exploiting the notion of conjunction, we introduce the set of constituents generated bynconditional events. Moreover, under logical independence, w…

The signature of longevity in Sicily

2019

Ageing is a natural and physiological condition that is the result of compromised stress response, homeostatic imbalance and increased risk of developing diseases. However, if aging with good health and functions (successful ageing) and aging with disease and disability (unsuccessful ageing) depends on a combination of “positive features”, including genetic, epigenetic and phenotypic characteristics in combination with favourable environment, economic status and social involvement. In our study, we summarize some key points for the identification of a longevity signature, with a particular focus on long-living Sicilian individuals and centenarians. Analysing three different Sicilian cohorts…

Phenotypic Aspects of Longevity

2019

Centenarians are individuals who live over the average life span characteristic of their population. The growing number of old people worldwide makes it necessary to identify a good strategy to reach healthy ageing and avoid or delay age-related diseases. The longevity phenotype is the result of a positive combination between genetic, epigenetic, stochastic and lifestyle factors. So, the analysis of all the known parameters that can influence these single elements or their interaction can give new possible elements to delineate a sort of longevity signature. Starting from the easiest biomarkers as the haematochemical values and reaching the study of molecular and cellular components, as the…

Is there a relationship between idiopathic scoliosis and body 2 mass? A scoping review

2022

The etiopathogenesis of idiopathic scoliosis remains unknown, although genetic or hered- 12 itary factors, neurological disorders, hormonal and metabolic dysfunctions, biomechanical factors, 13 and environmental factors seem to be involved. Several studies have found that patients with scoli- 14 osis have common characteristics of taller stature, lower body mass index (BMI), and low systemic 15 bone mass. We conducted a scoping review to analyze the association between idiopathic scoliosis 16 and BMI. The search for articles was performed on PubMed and Cochrane, including the English 17 language, full-text and free-full-text articles published from December 31st, 2011 to December 31st, 18 2…

Modified Atmosphere Packaging and low temperature storage extend marketability of cherimoya (Annona cherimola Mill.)

2022

Cherimoya is a subtropical fruit characterized by a delicious, sweet flavor and beneficial health properties, which found suitable growing conditions in the South of Italy. However, the marketing of this product is halted by its high perishability, which limits the shelf-life of the fresh fruit to few days after harvest and does not allow for commercialization beyond local markets. Studies have shown that storage of this fruit in controlled atmosphere, using Modified Atmosphere Packaging technologies, extended the post-harvest life of Cherimoya, but little is still known about the evolution of its sensory, nutraceutical and microbiological characteristics during such storage period. In this…

Diatoms from thermal-sulphur waters of “Fiume Caldo” (North-western Sicily).

2007

The present study describes the taxonomic composition, richness and seasonal dynamics of the diatom community from thermal-sulphur waters of "Fiume Caldo" (Northwestern Sicily). The diatom flora of these waters consists of 64 taxa, showing similarities with thermal diatom communities from different geographical areas. Among the recorded taxa, Diadesmis confervacea Kütz. is a new record for Sicily. Seasonal changes in assemblage composition and richness have been recorded; the highest diversity values were observed during winter and spring, while during summer the diatom community consisted of a limited number of organisms whereas blue-green algae were quantitatively dominant. Inside the stu…
