Hydro-Acoustic Target Detection

2014

This chapter presents an example of utilization of the discrete–time wavelet packets, which are described in Sect. 9.1, to classification of acoustic signals and detection of a target. The methodology based on wavelet packets is applied to a problem of detection of a boat of a certain type when other background noises are present. The solution is obtained via analysis of boat’s hydro-acoustic signature against an existing database of recorded and processed hydro-acoustic signals. The signals are characterized by the distribution of their energies among blocks of wavelet packet coefficients.

Chemical composition of the essential oil of Phagnalon saxatile (L.) Cass. (Asteraceae) growing wild in Southern Italy

2005

Abstract The essential oil from aerial parts of Phagnalon saxatile (L.) Cass. (Asteraceae) was obtained by hydrodistillation. The oil content was 0.15% (v/w), on a dry weight basis. The oil composition was analyzed by GC and GC/MS. Altogether 66 compounds were identified accounting for 93.2% of the oil. Sesquiterpenes represent the 23.9% of the oil. In the oil were also present fatty acids (21.8%) and waxes (19.3%). The oil shows no antibacterial activity.

Slow pyrolysis of an LDPE/PP mixture: Kinetics and process performance

2021

Abstract High- and low-density polyethylene (HDPE and LDPE) and polypropylene (PP) are the most common polymers among plastic waste as they have multiple commercial applications. This study focused on thermal degradation characteristics and kinetic of a plastic mixture with a composition of 92.5 wt% LDPE and 7.5% PP. Thermal decomposition characteristics of the plastic mixture was analysed through thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA). The overall kinetic of the process was studied using the modified Coats−Redfern method and the Ozawa-Flynn-Wall (OFW) method. The apparent activation energy (E) and pre-exponential factor (A) obtained were 316.0 kJ/mol; 8.09E+21 min−1 and 311.5 kJ/mol; 4.35E+21 m…

OGC-to-W3C Services: A Wrapper-Based Solution for Geospatial Metadata Exchange

2018

When trying to compose services that are developed according to different standards, interoperability issues arise that are often faced by developing ad-hoc solutions. A typical example is represented by the composition of W3C and OGC services, which were developed more or less concurrently by independent organizations. In such a context, developing a wrapper that abstracts as much as possible the inner details and logic of a wrapped service well embraces the low-coupled nature of the general Service Oriented Computing paradigm. This paper focuses on the proper management of geospatial metadata into a W3C-based environment and is based on the development of a wrapper that exposes OGC functi…

Losing weight after menopause with minimal aerobic training and mediterranean diet

2020

Objective: It is a common belief that menopausal women have greater difficulty losing weight. The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of a Mediterranean diet (MD) to promote weight loss in postmenopausal women. All participants were prescribed a hypocaloric traditional MD, tailored to the individual. Subjects were asked not to begin any kind of physical activity. Body composition was measured at the beginning and after 8 weeks of treatment. In total, 89 women (age 52.8 &plusmn

High plant-based diet and physical activity in women during menopausal transition

2021

Purpose The menopausal transition (MT) is a period when there may be an increase in visceral fat mass and a worsening of cardiometabolic risk factors. Few studies have evaluated the efficacy of plant-based low-calorie diets on groups of women at different stages of MT. The purpose of this study is to compare the effectiveness of a high plant-to-animal protein ratio diet in women of similar age but with different fertility statuses. Design/methodology/approach Subjects were divided into three groups according to their fertility status at the baseline: “premenopausal” (n = 11), “perimenopause” (n = 14) and “postmenopause” (n = 18). Body composition (BC) was measured at the beginning and afte…

Ricci Tensors on Some Infinite Dimensional Lie Algebras

1999

Abstract The Ricci tensor has been computed in several infinite dimensional situations. In this work, we shall be interested in the case of the central extension of loop groups and in the asymptotic behaviour of the Ricci tensor on free loop groups as the Riemannian metric varies.

Weak Levi-Civita Connection for the Damped Metric on the Riemannian Path Space and Vanishing of Ricci Tensor in Adapted Differential Geometry

2001

Abstract We shall establish in the context of adapted differential geometry on the path space P m o ( M ) a Weitzenbock formula which generalizes that in (A. B. Cruzeiro and P. Malliavin, J. Funct. Anal . 177 (2000), 219–253), without hypothesis on the Ricci tensor. The renormalized Ricci tensor will be vanished. The connection introduced in (A. B. Cruzeiro and S. Fang, 1997, J. Funct. Anal. 143 , 400–414) will play a central role.

Inverse-voltammetric determination of bismuth in biomaterials with computer assisted peak evaluation. part 3. Bismuth determination in wine, grapes a…

1989

The ultra trace element bismuth is regulary found in wine on an average of about 0.1 ppb. Very low bismuth contents were also determined in soil and different biomaterials. In spite of those very low quantities even speciation experiments show results, so far that about 90% of the bismuth in the grapes is water-soluble, resumably as saccharic acids. For detecting such low quantities a very sensitive method of differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry was developped. The speciation experiments were carried out by fractional extraction.
