Pressure-induced magnetic switching and linkage isomerism in K0.4Fe4[Cr(CN)6]2.8 x 16 H2O: X-ray absorption and magnetic circular dichroism studies.

The effect of applied pressure on the magnetic properties of the Prussian blue analogue K0.4Fe4[Cr(CN)6]2.8 x 16 H2O (1) has been analyzed by dc and ac magnetic susceptibility measurements. Under ambient conditions, 1 orders ferromagnetically at a critical temperature (T(C)) of 18.5 K. Under application of pressure in the 0-1200 MPa range, the magnetization of the material decreases and its critical temperature shifts to lower temperatures, reaching T(C) = 7.5 K at 1200 MPa. Pressure-dependent Raman and Mossbauer spectroscopy measurements show that this striking behavior is due to the isomerization of some Cr(III)-C[triple bond]N-Fe(II) linkages to the Cr(III)-N[triple bond]C-Fe(II) form. Nitroanilines as Quenchers of Pyrene Fluorescence

The quenching of pyrene and 1‐methylpyrene fluorescence by nitroanilines (NAs), such as 2‐, 3‐, and 4‐nitroaniline (2‐NA, 3‐NA, and 4‐NA, respectively), 4‐methyl‐3‐nitroaniline (4‐M‐3‐NA), 2‐methyl‐4‐nitroaniline (2‐M‐4‐NA), and 4‐methyl‐3,5‐dinitroaniline (4‐M‐3,5‐DNA), are studied in toluene and 1,4‐dioxane. Steady‐state fluorescence data show the higher efficiency of the 4‐NAs as quenchers and fit with a sphere‐of‐action model. This suggests a 4‐NA tendency of being in close proximity to the fluorophore, which could be connected with their high polarity/hyperpolarizability. Novel 3-Azaindolyl-4-arylmaleimides Exhibiting Potent Antiangiogenic Efficacy, Protein Kinase Inhibition, and Antiproliferative Activity

Tumor growth and metastasis are highly associated with the overexpression of protein kinases (PKs) regulating cell growth, apoptosis resistance, and prolonged cell survival. This study describes novel azaindolyl-maleimides with significant inhibition of PKs, such as VEGFR, FLT-3, and GSK-3β which are related to carcinogenesis. Furthermore, these compounds exhibit high kinase selectivity and potent inhibition of angiogenesis and cell proliferation, offering versatile options in cancer treatment strategies.

Background— Clinical trials in heart failure have focused on the improvement in symptoms or decreases in the risk of death and other cardiovascular events. Little is known about the effect of drugs on the risk of clinical deterioration in surviving patients. Methods and Results— We compared the angiotensin-neprilysin inhibitor LCZ696 (400 mg daily) with the angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor enalapril (20 mg daily) in 8399 patients with heart failure and reduced ejection fraction in a double-blind trial. High‐nuclearity mixed‐valence magnetic clusters : A general solution of the double exchange problem

We report here a general solution of the double‐exchange problem in the high‐nuclearity mixed valence systems containing arbitrary number P of the electrons delocalized over the network of N (P<N) localized spins. The developed approach is based on the successive (chainlike) spin‐coupling scheme and takes full advantage from the quantum angular momentum theory. In the framework of this approach the closed‐form analytical expressions are deduced for the matrix elements of the double exchange interaction, two‐electron transfer, and three‐center interaction that can be referred to as the potential exchange transfer. Toxicity assessment and biodegradation potential of water-soluble sludge containing 2,4,6-trinitrotoluen

The water-soluble phase of trinitrotoluene-containing sludge (SLP) was characterized with regard to trinitrotoluene (TNT) concentration, ecotoxicity, and a model biodegradation experiment as evaluation criteria for further development of appropriate treatment technologies. SLP contained 67.8 mg TNT/l. The results of germination and root-elongation tests indicated that SLP had a species-specific phytotoxic effect. The results of a 21 day degradation experiment demonstrated TNT conversion to 4-amino-2,6-DNT and 2-amino-4,6-DNT, with a simultaneous reduction in the total concentration of nitroaromatics. Scope and Limitations of Baird's Theory on Triplet State Aromaticity: Application to the Tuning of Singlet–Triplet Energy Gaps in Fulvenes

Utilizing Baird's theory on triplet state aromaticity, we show that the singlet-triplet energy gaps (DeltaE(ST)) of pentafulvenes are easily varied through substitution by as much as 36 kcal mol(-1). This exploits the fact that fulvenes act as aromatic chameleons in which the dipoles reverse on going from the singlet ground state (S(0)) to the lowest pipi* triplet state (T1); thus, their electron distributions are adapted so as to achieve some aromaticity in both states. The platinum(IV) complex trans-[PtCl(4)(EtCN)(2)] reacts smoothly and under mild conditions with isomeric o-, m- and p-nitroanilines (NAs) yielding two different types of products depending on the NA isomer, viz. the nitroaniline complexes cis/trans-[PtCl(4)(NA)(2)] (cis/trans-1-3) and the amidine species trans-[PtCl(4){NH=C(Et)NHC(6)H(4)NO(2)-m}(EtCN)] (4), trans-[PtCl(4){NH=C(Et)NHC(6)H(4)NO(2)-m}(2)] (5) and trans-[PtCl(4){NH=C(Et)NHC(6)H(4)NO(2)-p}(EtCN)] (6). Abstract We report the results of in vivo studies in Caenorhabditis elegans nematodes in which addition of extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) to their diet significantly increased their life span with respect to the control group. Furthermore, when nematodes were exposed to the pesticide paraquat, they started to die after two days, but after the addition of EVOO to their diet, both survival percentage and lifespans of paraquat-exposed nematodes increased. Since paraquat is associated with superoxide radical production, a test for scavenging this radical was performed using cyclovoltammetry and the EVOO efficiently scavenged the superoxide. Surface charge fine tuning of reversed-phase/weak anion-exchange type mixed-mode stationary phases for milder elution conditions.

A series of new mixed-mode reversed-phase/weak anion-exchange (RP/WAX) phases have been synthesized by immobilization of N-undecenyl-3-α-aminotropane onto thiol-modified silica gel by thiol-ene click chemistry and subsequent introduction of acidic thiol-endcapping functionalities of different type and surface densities.
