Dynamic Distributed Intrusion Detection for Secure Multi-Robot Systems

2009

A general technique to build a dynamic and distributed intrusion detector for a class of multi–agent systems is proposed in this paper, by which misbehavior in the motion of one or more agents can be discovered. Previous work from the authors has focused on how to distinguish the behavior of a misbehaving agent in a completely distributed way, by developing a solution where agents act as local monitors of their neighbors and use locally sensed information as well as data received from other monitors at a particular time. In this work, we improve the system detection capability by allowing monitors to use information collected at different instants and thus realizing a dynamic state observer…

DSC: software tool for simulation-based design of control strategies applied to wastewater treatment plants.

2011

This paper presents a computer tool called DSC (Simulation based Controllers Design) that enables an easy design of control systems and strategies applied to wastewater treatment plants. Although the control systems are developed and evaluated by simulation, this tool aims to facilitate the direct implementation of the designed control system to the PC of the full-scale WWTP (wastewater treatment plants). The designed control system can be programmed in a dedicated control application and can be connected to either the simulation software or the SCADA of the plant. To this end, the developed DSC incorporates an OPC server (OLE for process control) which facilitates an open-standard communic…

Analysis of ground fault current distribution along nonuniform multi-section lines

2008

In case of a substation supplied by a combined overhead-cable line, most of the ground fault current flows through the cable sheaths and discharges into the soil surrounding the point of discontinuity, where cables are connected to the overhead line. In the paper a new method is presented for computing the ground fault current distribution in case of feeding line consisting of two or more different sections, i.e. part overhead and part underground cable. Besides the calculation of the earth current at the fault location, the leakage current at the transit/transition stations as well as at the overhead line towers can be evaluated, in order to ensure proper safety conditions. Based on the tw…

Transient stability analysis for symmetrical and unsymmetrical faults in mixed three-phase and six-phase power systems

1989

Abstract The aim of this paper is to analyse the transient stability of a three-phase power system with six-phase lines interconnected by three-phase to six-phase transformers. For these mixed power systems a transient stability analysis is performed under all main types of disturbances (short-circuits, generator and load rejection, line outages), particularly in the case of faults at six-phase buses. A generalized procedure to evaluate transient stability is explained in detail. It is based on the symmetrical components method, which allows one to consider also unsymmetrical faults both at three-phase and six-phase buses. For every possible unsymmetrical short-circuit an equivalent fault a…

Electronics for Application of Ion Beams in Nanoscience

2009

The breadth of ion-beam nanoscience methods discussed in the proceeding chapters implies that the control and readout systems also span a wide range of techniques. For many nanoscience and technology applications the need to process or characterise a batches of samples has lead to a convergence of data acquisition systems and control systems. This coupled with the development of high-performance lowcost computing over the past decades has lead to a progressive evolution in data acquisition technology. Historically, much of the electronics used in nanoscience and technology using ion beams is based on nuclear analogue pulse counting and spectrometry where NIM (Nuclear Instrumentation Modules…

RutaRep: a computer package to design dispatching routes in the meat industry

2005

In this paper we present a computer program that has been developed to design the dispatching routes of a medium-sized meat company in Spain. We have modelled the real problem as a variant of the vehicle routing problem with Time Windows and implemented a number of heuristic algorithms based on the most advanced solution techniques for this problem. These algorithms have been embedded in a computer package that is intended to be used as a decision support system for the distribution manager. The program runs under Windows System and is straightforward to use. We also present some computational experiences based on real instances provided by the company. This experience shows important impro…

Efficient modeling of a combined overhead cable line for grounding-system analysis

2008

Simple compact models for combined overhead-cable lines supplying a substation are presented as an extension of a previous paper for grounding system analysis. The overhead line section can be equipped with uniform or combined ground wires, whereas the cable line section can consist of coated metal sheathed cables, with/without intermediate grounding, or uncoated metal sheathed cables in continuous contact with the earth. Besides the calculation of the earth current at the faulted substation, the proposed modeling method allows the evaluation of the leakage current at the transition station, where cables are connected to the overhead line, as well as at critical overhead line towers. In thi…

Ability of Preissmann slot scheme to simulate smooth pressurisation transient in sewers

2010

Urban drainage networks are generally designed to operate in a free-surface flow condition. However, as a consequence of heavy rainfall events or network malfunctioning, filling of sewers (pressurization) and network overflowing may occur. Several softwares are commonly used to simulate floods in drainage networks and their results are usually thought to be reliable and robust. However, no specific studies have been carried out on the behaviour of these softwares during the pressurization transient. Actually, mathematical models based on the momentum equation appear to be more suitable in correctly simulating the pressurization moving jump but models based on the energy equation are much mo…
