A Group-Based Protocol for Large Wireless AD-HOC and Sensor Networks

2008

Many routing protocols for ad-hoc networks and sensor networks have been designed, but none of them is based on groups. It is known that grouping nodes gives better performance to the group and to the whole system, thereby avoiding unnecessary message forwarding and additional overheads. We propose an approach where the network is split into several groups of sensors where connections between groups are established as a function of the proximity and the neighbor's available capacity (based on the sensor's energy). In this paper the network architecture is described with its mathematical description and the messages that are needed to proper operation. It is also simulated how much time is n…

Latency factor in worldwide IP routed networks

2014

Current Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) serves for worldwide internet backbone connections between different Autonomous Systems (AS) on the routing level. Continuously in real-time changing environment core routers calculate routing decisions based on path-vector database entries. AS path-vector database may contain multiple paths for various Internet Protocol (IP) prefix destinations where smallest entity in the path-vector is AS. In real world AS can be internet service operator, university or any other organization willing to participate in internet network via multi-homed uplinks. Unfortunately, internal part of AS is hidden in path-vector database thus excluding factors like latency, pac…

A hybrid bio-inspired approach to solving the routing problem in mobile ad hoc networks

2018

A mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is an autonomous system of mobile hosts (nodes) connected by a wireless link. However, the problem of designing routing protocols poses challenges to researchers due to the unpredictable and dynamic nature of ad hoc networks. Hence, bio-inspired algorithms are widely used to design adaptive routing strategies for MANETs. This paper proposes a routing protocol based on the hybridisation of ant colony optimisation (ACO) and 2-opt heuristic with the optimisation of ACO parameters. Given the vast scope of the parameters, a genetic algorithm is used to minimise the complexity of the problem. The implementation of the method is realised by MATLAB. To valid the resu…

Positioning Error Prediction and Training Data Evaluation in RF Fingerprinting Method

2019

Radio Frequency (RF) fingerprinting-based localization has become a research interest due to its minimum hardware requirement and satisfiable positioning accuracy. However, despite the significant attention this topic has gained, most of the research focused on the calculation of position estimates. In this paper, we propose a simple and novel method that can be used as an indicator of fingerprinting positioning error. The method is based on cluster radius evaluation of multiple fingerprinting data during the test phase, which can be used by a Location Based Service (LBS) provider to predict the user position estimation accuracy. This method can be used effectively in real-time to predict t…

M-commerce - mobile commerce: a new frontier for E-business

2005

Mobile commerce involves the use of mobile computing devices in carrying out different types of economic transactions or enabling them to take place over space and time. The m-commerce includes use of such technologies as SMS services over a number of carriers (GSM, IS95, CDMA, W-CDMA), Bluetooth applications, and the integration of low-level digital carriers to IP based services through WAP or Compact HTML like the Japanese I-Mode service. This integration is one of the fastest growing markets of E-business and it will involve the development and design of a host of new applications, services, business models and technological solutions. The theme is both topical and challenging, as the nu…

A SOA-based health service platform in smart home environment

2011

The increasing demand for a good healthcare quality has brought Information and Communication Technology to an important role in healthcare domain. The trend in decreasing number of formal healthcare workers gives further pressure to move non-urgent treatments to the patients' homes. However, delivering healthcare services to meet the changing needs of inhabitants in a smart home requires an open and flexible service creation and integration environment so that the modification of existing services as well as creation of new services can be achieved in a timely manner. This paper presents a vision of a logical integration platform in a smart home environment, integrating various devices and…

A Community-based Approach for Service-based Application Composition in an Ecosystem

2010

The design of composite applications by combining existing services with known semantics is an ongoing topic in current research. Several studies are aimed at providing service description models and standards, service discovery and matching etc. However, service composition in distributed dynamic environments such as P2P ecosystems has received little attention from research communities. In this paper we present a design framework for composing services, taking in particular into account different ways of building peercommunities based on network or services characteristics.

Using WMS log files as an indicator of QoS and application performance in on-demand streaming videos

2012

When utilizing video streaming for professional purposes, the quality of service needs to be evaluated by the service provider. This is the case especially when the service must be available for a large number of customers with a wide range of network interfaces and terminal equipment. Service providers have usually information about network-level metrics. However, the problem is that conditions that appear similar in a networklevel may cause very different responses in an application level, and the other way round. In this article, we study how Windows Media Server's log files can be used to evaluate the QoS of video transmission, and we also examine the application level performance based…

MAGICPL: A Generic Process Description Language for Distributed Pseudonymization Scenarios

2021

Abstract Objectives Pseudonymization is an important aspect of projects dealing with sensitive patient data. Most projects build their own specialized, hard-coded, solutions. However, these overlap in many aspects of their functionality. As any re-implementation binds resources, we would like to propose a solution that facilitates and encourages the reuse of existing components. Methods We analyzed already-established data protection concepts to gain an insight into their common features and the ways in which their components were linked together. We found that we could represent these pseudonymization processes with a simple descriptive language, which we have called MAGICPL, plus a relati…

A Web-Based Coordination Infrastructure for Grid Collective Services

2004

Virtual Organizations (VO) consisting of heterogeneous institutions and individuals that share resources dynamically and in a coordinated way to support collaborative problem-solving are emerging in many fields. Consequently, new types of distributed infrastructures known as Grids have been proposed to cope with these new sharing requirements. Grids offer sets of collective services to support collaborative tasks which are distributed in nature and need asynchronous communication. Existing approaches to this problem lack of flexibility, adaptability and are tightly bound to the collective service that is provided. We present here a generic event model to build collective services that requi…
