SINGING THE SELF: THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF THE FIFTEENTH-CENTURY GERMAN SINGER AND COMPOSER JOHANNES VON SOEST
2010
The German singer, composer and writer Johannes von Soest (1448–1506), also referred to as Steinwart or Steinwert, is the author of a vernacular autobiography in verse. One of the very few such documents written by a musician, it gives a highly personal insight into his career, which extended from his training as a chorister in Soest to the ducal chapel in Cleves and afterwards to Bruges (in the company of two unnamed English musicians), Aardenburg (Overijssel), Maastricht, possibly Cologne, Kassel and finally Heidelberg, where he was appointed as Kapellmeister. He subsequently decided to become a physician. The article includes a complete transcription of the text, whose original was destr…
FPGA-based embedded Logic Controllers
2014
In general case, reconfigurable logic controllers (RLC) are included into reactive digital embedded systems, carrying out control for several processes proceeding concurrently. The paper presents a practical application of a formal, rule-based specification language in Gentzen sequent logic, which is used as an intermediate textual description of a control interpreted Petri net. On the other hand exactly the same description serves also as logic design expressions, related with different versions of functionally equivalent concurrent state machine models, considered on Register Transfer Level. The symbolic rule-based specification of Petri net-based embedded Logic Controllers (LCs) can be s…
Density and distribution patterns of the endangered species Pinna nobilis within the harbour bay of Favignana (Egadi Islands MPA)
2015
The fan shell P. nobilis (Linnaeus, 1758) is the largest marine bivalve in the Mediterranean Sea which acts as ecosystem engineer, offering an adequate substratum to several associated benthic species. P. nobilis is threatened by the reduction and loss of its natural habitat and by increased anthropogenic inputs into coastal waters. The knowledge on the population of this species are scarce, especially as concerns Sicily and its coasts. This study focused on the density of population, spatial distribution, level of burial and orientation of the population of P. nobilis in the harbour area of Favignana island (western coast of Sicily, Italy). The fan shell surveys were carried out by SCUBA d…
UML/OCL-based modeling of work-based access control policies for collaborative healthcare systems
2016
A work-based access control (WBAC) model is proposed by introducing the team role concept and modifying the user-role assignment model from a previous work. The main goals of WBAC are flexibility, easy manageability, security, as well as suitability to support cooperative work of dynamic teams in healthcare environments. One of the major challenges of WBAC regards authorization constraints in terms of organizational policies. In this article, we show how Unified Modeling Language (UML) and Object Constraints Language (OCL) are utilized to design and analyze the authorization constraints of WBAC in cooperative engagements with complex scenarios in the collaborative healthcare domain. We also…
Context Aware Mobile Learning as a Factor for Economic Growth
2015
Abstract Mobile technologies have become an integral tool for communication and information delivery. It transformed educational paradigms from traditional one-size-fits-all to personalized and context aware learning. Such education can support human resources development, resulting in improved outcomes. Quality of education and working skills are the important driving force for economic development. This paper deals with the role of mobile learning in education, which is unique in terms of flexibility of time and location, but it requires extra planning and analyses of appropriate technologies during learning design process. The contextual information can be static, but some parts are dyna…
Metamodel Specialization for DSL Tool Building
2016
Most of domain-specific tool building and especially diagram editor building nowadays involves some usage of metamodels. However normally the metamodel alone is not sufficient to define an editor. Frequently the metamodel just defines the abstract syntax of the domain, mappings or transformations are required to define the editor. Another approach [8] is based on a fixed type metamodel, there an editor definition consists of an instance of this metamodel to be executed by an engine. However there typically a number of functionality extensions in a transformation language is required. The paper offers a new approach based on metamodel specialization. First the metamodel specialization based …
A virtual laboratory designed for teaching diffractive lenses
2010
[EN] We present a virtual laboratory generated in Matlab GuiQc (Graphical User Interface) for its use in Optics courses as an informatic tool for teaching the focusing properties of a diffractive lens. This Gui allows the students to learn easily and rapidly about the influence on the focal volume of the lens construction parameters. As an example in this work we analyze fractal diffractive lenses because we found that fractal geometry is a highly motivating topic for students since it is related to a wide range of scientific and technological phenomena.
Contrasting structural complexity differentiate hunting strategy in an ambush apex predator.
2021
AbstractStructural complexity is known to influence prey behaviour, mortality and population structure, but the effects on predators have received less attention. We tested whether contrasting structural complexity in two newly colonised lakes (low structural complexity lake—LSC; high structural complexity—HSC) was associated with contrasting behaviour in an aquatic apex predator, Northern pike (Esox lucius; hereafter pike) present in the lakes. Behaviour of pike was studied with whole-lake acoustic telemetry tracking, supplemented by stable isotope analysis of pike prey utilization and survey fishing data on the prey fish community. Pike displayed increased activity, space use, individual …
D2hTDS-ST Software for Stark Spectrum Simulation of X2Y4 Asymmetric-Top Molecules
2011
Abstract We present the D 2 h TDS-ST ( D 2 h -Top Data System for Stark effect) program suite with the aim to simulate Stark spectra of any IR active rovibrational polyad of X 2 Y 4 ( D 2 h ) asymmetric-top molecules. D 2 h TDS-ST consists in a series of FORTRAN programs called by scripts. For calculation of Stark spectra, we obtained the expressions of the dipole moment and polarizability operators of X 2 Y 4 molecules using a tensorial formalism. For convenience, we integrated the D 2 h TDS-ST programs into the D 2 h TDS package. The D 2 h TDS suite (including the D 2 h TDS-ST programs) is freely available at the URL: http://icb.u-bourgogne.fr/OMR/SMA/SHTDS/D2HTDS.html .
Pair potential calculation of molecular associations: a vectorized version
1991
Abstract The program AMYRVF is a vectorized and largely modified version of a previous program called AMYR for calculating molecular associations by means of Fraga's pair-wise atom-atom potential. Three new minimization procedures have been implemented as well as other improvements such as the inclusion of new pair-wise dispersion energy terms with damping functions, and the calculation of topological indices. Benchmark tests have been carried out on an IBM 3090 150E VF; the timings for the new vector algorithms and for the standard scalar computations, as well as the dependence of the overall performance gain on the size of interacting systems are reported for the VS Fortran 2.4 compiler e…
