The Cyberspace Threats and Cyber Security Objectives in the Cyber Security Strategies

2013

Threats in cyberspace can be classified in many ways. This is evident when you look at cyber security on a multinational level. One of the most common models is a threefold classification based on motivational factors. Most nations use this model as a foundation when creating a strategy to handle cyber security threats as it pertains to them. This paper will use the five level model: cyber activism, cybercrime, cyber espionage, cyber terrorism and cyber warfare. The National Cyber Security Strategy defines articulates the overall aim and objectives of the nation's cyber security policy and sets out the strategic priorities that the national government will pursue to achieve these objectives…

Finnish Cyber Security Strategy and Implementation

2015

Technical and automated solutions and information networks, which make planning, guidance and implementation possible fast and in a cost-efficient way, are widely used in Finnish information society. The flipside of this development is increased dependency on extensive and complicated technical systems and information networks. Failures in these systems or, for example, in their power supply may rapidly affect comprehensive security in society. Threats against security in society have become more multifaceted and, as a consequence, more complicated. Threats can no longer be divided clearly into military and non-military threats or internal and external threats; they are often interconnected…

Ad-Hoc Segmentation Pipeline for Microarray Image Analysis

2006

Microarray is a new class of biotechnologies able to help biologist researches to extrapolate new knowledge from biological experiments. Image Analysis is devoted to extrapolate, process and visualize image information. For this reason it has found application also in Microarray, where it is a crucial step of this technology (e.g. segmentation). In this paper we describe MISP (Microarray Image Segmentation Pipeline), a new segmentation pipeline for Microarray Image Analysis. The pipeline uses a recent segmentation algorithm based on statistical analysis coupled with K-Means algorithm. The Spot masks produced by MISP are used to determinate spots information and quality measures. A software …

Hidden Markov Random Fields and Direct Search Methods for Medical Image Segmentation

2016

The goal of image segmentation is to simplify the representation of an image to items meaningful and easier to analyze. Medical image segmentation is one of the fundamental problems in image processing field. It aims to provide a crucial decision support to physicians. There is no one way to perform the segmentation. There are several methods based on HMRF. Hidden Markov Random Fields (HMRF) constitute an elegant way to model the problem of segmentation. This modelling leads to the minimization of an energy function. In this paper we investigate direct search methods that are Nelder-Mead and Torczon methods to solve this optimization problem. The quality of segmentation is evaluated on grou…

Mortality associated with the use of inappropiate drugs according Beers Criteria: a systematic review

2013

The aims of this systematic review are to identify and analyse the scientist literature available evidence about the use of potentially inappropriate medications, according to the Beers Criteria, that is associated with mortality in the elderly people. It have been made a search of publications in most traditional electronic databases among the scientific community (Pubmed / Medline, EMBASE and Web of Science) and it have been selected publications that obey the criteria of 'observational study', 'elderly' and 'Beers Criteria' and that they had as a result the mortality of the study population. After publications selection it proceeded to dump data by two researchers independently to avoid s…

Adding sensor-free intention-based affective support to an Intelligent Tutoring System

2017

Abstract Emotional factors considerably influence learning and academic performance. In this paper, we validate the hypothesis that learning platforms can adjust their response to have an effect on the learner’s pleasure, arousal and/or dominance, without using a specific emotion detection system during operation. To this end, we have enriched an existing Intelligent Tutoring System (ITS) by designing a module that is able to regulate the level of help provided to maximize valence, arousal or autonomy as desired. The design of this module followed a two-stage methodology. In the first stage, the ITS was adapted to collect data from several groups of students in primary education, by providi…

Test-driven lecturing

2012

One can easily compare the current style of teaching and lecturing to the so called waterfall model of software development. We first design the course, then execute it, and in the end we make tests to see, if everything went well. As with waterfall model, the assessment comes too late, if anything fails. Therefore, we need a lecturing model which entwines assessment into course execution. Test-driven development (TDD) is a model of software development in which the computer program is designed by writing first small tests that assure the meeting of the requirements. In test-driven lecturing, students first take tests to show how well they master the topics to be discussed. In this way both …

Formative feedback to transfer self-regulation of task-oriented reading strategies

2016

The study includes two experiments to analyse the effects of automatic formative feedback designed to promote the transfer of self-regulation of strategic decisions in task-oriented reading e.g. answering questions from an available text. Secondary-school students read and answered multiple-choice comprehension questions from two texts having them available while receiving consistent feedback about their performance and strategic decisions. Then, they read a different text and answered questions also with the text available, but receiving no feedback. In Experiment 1, we tested two feedback procedures that differed in task conditions and the feedback information associated to these conditio…

Driver training interests of a Spanish sample of young drivers and its relationship with their self-assessment skills concerning risky driving behavi…

2013

Abstract Poor driving self-assessment skills (e.g., over-confidence) have been pointed out as an important explanatory factor behind young drivers’ accident involvement. This paper explores (1) what young drivers miss in their training as drivers in order to analyze whether an assessment of one's own driving skills plays an important role in their desire to improve as drivers, and (2) how these training interests are related to an estimate of their self-assessment skills concerning risky driving behavior. For this purpose, a study was conducted using a survey with a blocked sampling design of novice drivers. The survey solicited respondents’ self-report about (1) the contents of training co…

Experiences in Digital Video Composition as Sources of Self-Efficacy Toward Technology Use

2018

As teachers’ self-efficacy has been shown to be a crucial factor in technology integration, there is a need to understand the mechanisms that may raise teachers’ self-efficacy toward technology integration. This article seeks to understand what sources of self-efficacy hands-on experiences with technology may provide to pre-service teachers. The participants were 37 students who were taking a course on digital literacies, where they composed a digital video in small groups. The data consists of students’ individually written post-course self-evaluation reports. In the analysis of the reports, the authors identified text fragments that indicated either 1) sources of self-efficacy related to …
