Towards global service level guarantee within autonomic computing systems

2011

International audience; In this paper, we specify a global service level guarantee including not only QoS but also security and taking into account user mobility. This global service level could be guaranteed within several autonomic computing systems managed by different autonomic domain managers. For that purpose, we propose an end-to-end Service Level Negotiation Protocol, called SLNP, to provide those autonomic managers with a negotiation capability. This allows achieving an agreement on the service level of each offered service between the different domains involved in the transport of that service. SLNP Implementation is made of Web Services technologies to enable interoperability in …

Case study for 3G/UMTS services and billing methods

2001

The 3G/UMTS-networks and services will provide a wide range of telecommunication services. To achieve, this, we need a new view to networks, network services and service abilities. The amount of service providers in the 3G networks will be at least the same than in the present Internet. The amount of users in the 3G networks will overgrow the user amount of Internet forming a global worldwide communication society. This paper discusses customer billing in the 3G world. There are some main issues that are not very, clear to all 3G service and network providers, which however, should be settled before, 3G networks are operational. One of the most important matters is the QoS (Quality of Servi…

A global service level guarantee in NGN networks

2010

In this paper, we propose an end-to-end service level negotiation protocol which enables a global service offer covering quality of service (QoS) and security while taking into account user's mobility in this offer. This protocol provides all the domains involved in the transport of a various offered services with a negotiation capability to achieve an agreement on a service level. This paper shows also results of measurements evaluating the performances of the considered negotiation protocol and security impact on QoS.

Ontology-based service matching and discovery

2011

In this paper we consider ontologies as knowledge structures that specify attributes of services, their properties and relations among them to enable finding semantic similarity between service descriptions and service requests. Ontologies reflect semantic relationship between concepts represented by attributes in service descriptions and service requests. We use knowledge from ontologies to enhance the both user service requests and service descriptions by adding concepts that are not presented in the original descriptions, and use them in comparison process. It results in more precise matching since we consider also implicit concepts. Thus services and requests that do not contain exact m…

Predicting service request in support centers based on nonlinear dynamics, ARMA modeling and neural networks

2008

In this paper, we present the use of different mathematical models to forecast service requests in support centers (SCs). A successful prediction of service request can help in the efficient management of both human and technological resources that are used to solve these eventualities. A nonlinear analysis of the time series indicates the convenience of nonlinear modeling. Neural models based on the time delay neural network (TDNN) are benchmarked with classical models, such as auto-regressive moving average (ARMA) models. Models achieved high values for the correlation coefficient between the desired signal and that predicted by the models (values between 0.88 and 0.97 were obtained in th…

A framework for IoT service experiment platforms in smart-city environments

2016

Cities provide an excellent platform for gathering and detection of massive amount of data from cities and citizens. Emergence of new digital technologies inspires not only city governments but also city residents, researchers, companies and other stakeholders in discovering and creating new innovative solutions to solve urban challenges and improve peoples´ everyday life. Developing novel Internet of Things (IoT) solutions for cities and citizens requires facilities where IoT applications and services can be tested and experimented. The challenge for many smart-city test and experimentation platforms (TEPs), like living labs, has been the lack of sustainable value creation model. This has …

An Approach to Cadastre Map Quality Evaluation

2008

An approach to data quality evaluation is proposed, which is elaborated and implemented by State Land Service of the Republic of Latvia. The approach is based on opinion of Land Service experts about Cadastre map quality that depends on its usage points. Quality parameters of Cadastre map objects identified by experts and its limit values are used for evaluation. The assessment matrix is used, which allow to define Cadastre map quality that depends on its usage purpose. The matrix is used to find out, of what quality a Cadastre map should be in order to be used for the chosen purpose. The given approach is flexible, it gives a possibility to change sets of quality parameters and their limit…

An Observation Framework for Multi-agent Systems

2009

Existing middleware platforms for multi-agent systems (MAS) do not provide general support for observation. On the other hand, observation is considered to be an important mechanism needed for realizing effective and efficient coordination of agents. This paper describes a framework called Agent Observable Environment (AOE) for observation-based interaction in MAS. The framework provides 1) possibility to model MAS components with RDF-based observable soft-bodies, 2) support for both query and publish/subscribe style ontology-driven observation, and 3) ability to restrict the visibility of observable information using observation rules. Additionally, we report on an implementation of the fr…

Improving Usability of Location-Based Services with User-Centric Data Querying

2004

In this paper, we describe a computational model that produces a dataset which we consider to be an appropriate response for “give me a description of my neighborhood” type of queries in location-based services Our attempt is to reflect the abstraction ability of a specific user, and in this way to maximize the usability of the service under restrictions on data volume posed by technical, economical and cognitive factors of mobile environments We also present the results of instantiating the model for a simple LBS.

Towards Concrete Syntax Based Find for Graphical Domain Specific Languages

2019

One of the main reasons why Model-Driven Engineering (MDE) technologies including Domain-specific modelling languages (DSML) have not reached the expected acceptance in the industry is a poor tool support. One of the features with a limited support even in commercial modelling tools is search (find). Typically, MDE tools support only a simple keyword-based textual search functionality. The same is true for the tools built using Domain-specific language (DSL) tool definition frameworks. It is proposed to provide the concrete syntax-based find functionality as a service of a DSL tool definition framework. The find diagrams are defined in a concrete syntax of a DSL. A definition of a DSL is us…
