UNIVERSITY IS ARCHITECTURE FOR THE RESEARCH EVALUATION SUPPORT
2017
The measuring of research results can be used in different ways e.g. for assignment of research grants and afterwards for evaluation of project’s results. It can be used also for recruiting or promoting research institutions’ staff. Because of a wide usage of such measurement, the selection of appropriate measures is important. At the same time there does not exist a common view which metrics should be used in this field, moreover many existing metrics that are widely used are often misleading due to different reasons, e.g. computed from incomplete or faulty data, the metric’s computation formula may be invalid or the computation results can be interpreted wrongly. To produce a good framewo…
Executable Data Quality Models
2017
The paper discusses an external solution for data quality management in information systems. In contradiction to traditional data quality assurance methods, the proposed approach provides the usage of a domain specific language (DSL) for description data quality models. Data quality models consists of graphical diagrams, which elements contain requirements for data object's values and procedures for data object's analysis. The DSL interpreter makes the data quality model executable therefore ensuring measurement and improving of data quality. The described approach can be applied: (1) to check the completeness, accuracy and consistency of accumulated data; (2) to support data migration in c…
Editing prototypes in the finite sample size case using alternative neighborhoods
1998
The recently introduced concept of Nearest Centroid Neighborhood is applied to discard outliers and prototypes 111 class overlapping regions in order to improve the performance of the Nearest Neighbor rule through an editing procedure, This approach is related to graph based editing algorithms which also define alternative neighborhoods in terms of geornetric relations, Classical editing algorithms are compared to these alternative editing schemes using several synthetic and real data problems. The empirical results show that, the proposed editing algorithm constitutes a good trade-off among performance and computational burden.
Artificial Intelligence in Protecting Smart Building’s Cloud Service Infrastructure from Cyberattacks
2020
Gathering and utilizing stored data is gaining popularity and has become a crucial component of smart building infrastructure. The data collected can be stored, for example, into private, public, or hybrid cloud service infrastructure or distributed service by utilizing data platforms. The stored data can be used when implementing services, such as building automation (BAS). Cloud services, IoT sensors, and data platforms can face several kinds of cybersecurity attack vectors such as adversarial, AI-based, DoS/DDoS, insider attacks. If a perpetrator can penetrate the defenses of a data platform, she can cause significant harm to the system. For example, the perpetrator can disrupt a buildin…
Tractional Motion Machines: Tangent-Managing Planar Mechanisms as Analog Computers and Educational Artifacts
2012
Concrete and virtual machines play a central role in the both Unconventional Computing (machines as computers) and in Math Education (influence of artifacts on reaching/producing abstract thought). Here we will examine some fallouts in these fields for the Tractional Motion Machines, planar mechanisms based on some devices used to plot the solutions of differential equations by the management of the tangent since the late 17th century.
Numerical implementation of active power flow tracing methods: Practical implications on transmission networks and DR programs support
2015
The goal of this paper is to demonstrate the powerful contribution of the electric active power flow tracing methods on studying the electric transmission systems operating conditions. The tracing methods allow to impute to every generation unit and/or load the responsibility of the power flows of all the elements connected to the network. This study propose the numerical implementation of two different tracing methods on two transmission networks through Matlab® scripts developed on purpose; then the analysis is focused on identifying the loads which mostly affect the power line flows of the system. The results of this analysis point out the loads on which the application of the Demand Res…
ViziQuer: A Visual Notation for RDF Data Analysis Queries
2019
Visual SPARQL query notations aim at easing the RDF data querying task. At the current state of the art there is still no generally accepted visual graph-based notation suitable to describe RDF data analysis queries that involve aggregation and subqueries. In this paper we present a visual diagram-centered notation for SPARQL select query formulation, capable to handle aggregate/statistics queries and hierarchic queries with subquery structure. The notation is supported by a web-based prototype tool. We present the notation examples, describe its syntax and semantics and describe studies with possible end users, involving both IT and medicine students.
Entropy-Based Classifier Enhancement to Handle Imbalanced Class Problem
2017
The paper presents a possible enhancement of entropy-based classifiers to handle problems, caused by the class imbalance in the original dataset. The proposed method was tested on synthetic data in order to analyse its robustness in the controlled environment with different class proportions. As also the proposed method was tested on the real medical data with imbalanced classes and compared to the original classification algorithm results. The medical field was chosen for testing due to frequent situations with uneven class ratios.
