A Patient-Centric Attribute Based Access Control Scheme for Secure Sharing of Personal Health Records Using Cloud Computing

2016

Personal health records (PHR) are an emerging health information exchange model, which facilitates PHR owners to efficiently share their private health data among a variety of users including healthcare professionals as well as family and friends. PHRs are usually outsourced and stored in third-party cloud platforms which relieves PHR owners from the burden of managing their PHR data while achieving better availability of health data. However, outsourcing private health data raises significant privacy concerns because there is a higher risk of leaking health information to unauthorized parties. To ensure PHR owners' control of their outsourced PHR data, attribute based encryption (ABE) mech…

AS4 message exchange protocol consolidation through the European CEF eDelivery infrastructure

2020

Since 2014, the European Union has supported the creation of cross-border communication networks based on an AS4 eDelivery solution through the Connecting Europe Facility. This article describes the current status of the uptake of the AS4 message exchange protocol in accordance with both the European infrastructure CEF eDelivery and the European regulation n°910/2014 on electronic identification and trust services for electronic transactions in the internal market. The main objective is to present an analysis of the achieved results from the implementation of the AS4 solution in several European projects carried out during the last 12 years to verify the impact of these projects around Euro…

A Stochastic Routing Algorithm for Distributed IoT with Unreliable Wireless Links

2016

Punctual and reliable transmission of collected information is indispensable for many Internet of Things (IoT) applications. Such applications rely on IoT devices operating over wireless communication links which are intrinsically unreliable. Consequently to improve packet delivery success while reducing delivery delay is a challenging task for data transmission in the IoT. In this paper, we propose an improved distributed stochastic routing algorithm to increase packet delivery ratio and decrease delivery delay in IoT with unreliable communication links. We adopt the concept of absorbing Markov chain to model the network and evaluate the expected delivery ratio and expected delivery delay …

Catalogue of Interactive Learning Objectives to improve an Integrated Medical and Dental Curriculum.

2016

ABSTRACT Introduction Online learning media are increasingly being incorporated into medical and dental education. However, the coordination between obligatory and facultative teaching domains still remains unsatisfying. The Catalogue of Interactive Learning Objectives of the University Clinic of Mainz (ILKUM), aims to offer knowledge transfer for students while being mindful of their individual qualifications. Its hierarchical structure is designed according to the Association for Dental Education in Europe (ADEE) levels of competence. Materials and methods The ILKUM was designed to establish a stronger interconnection between already existing and prospective learning strategies. All conte…

Human Coaching Methodologies for Automatic Electronic Coaching (eCoaching) as Behavioral Interventions With Information and Communication Technology:…

2021

Background We systematically reviewed the literature on human coaching to identify different coaching processes as behavioral interventions and methods within those processes. We then reviewed how those identified coaching processes and the used methods can be utilized to improve an electronic coaching (eCoaching) process for the promotion of a healthy lifestyle with the support of information and communication technology (ICT). Objective This study aimed to identify coaching and eCoaching processes as behavioral interventions and the methods behind these processes. Here, we mainly looked at processes (and corresponding models that describe coaching as certain processes) and the methods th…

A validity and reliability study of Conditional Entropy Measures of Pulse Rate Variability

2019

In this work, we present the feasibility to use a simpler methodological approach for the assessment of the short-term complexity of Heart Rate Variability (HRV). Specifically, we propose to exploit Pulse Rate Variability (PRV) recorded through photoplethysmography in place of HRV measured from the ECG, and to compute complexity via a linear Gaussian approximation in place of the standard model-free methods (e.g., nearest neighbor entropy estimates) usually applied to HRV. Linear PRV-based and model-free HRV-based complexity measures were compared via statistical tests, correlation analysis and Bland-Altman plots, demonstrating an overall good agreement. These results support the applicabil…

Language complexity in on-line health information retrieval

2020

The number of people searching for on-line health information has been steadily growing over the years so it is crucial to understand their specific requirements in order to help them finding easily and quickly the specific in-formation they are looking for. Although generic search engines are typically used by health information seekers as the starting point for searching information, they have been shown to be limited and unsatisfactory because they make generic searches, often overloading the user with the provided amount of results. Moreover, they are not able to provide specific information to different types of users. At the same time, specific search engines mostly work on medical li…

ULearn: Personalized Medical Learning on the Web for Patient Empowerment

2019

Abstract. Health literacy constitutes an important step towards patient empowerment and the Web is presently the biggest repository of medical information and, thus, the biggest medical resource to be used in the learning process. However, at present web medical information is mainly accessed through generic search engines that do not take into account the user specific needs and starting knowledge and so are not able to support learning activities tailored to the specific user requirements. This work presents “ULearn” a meta engine that supports access, understanding and learning on the Web in the medical domain based on specific user requirements and knowledge levels towards what we call …

Automatic Profiling of Open-Ended Survey Data on Medical Workplace Teaching

2019

On-the-job medical training is known to be challenging due to the fast-paced environment and strong vocational profile. It relies on on-site supervisors, mainly doctors and nurses with long practical experience, who coach and teach their less experienced colleagues, such as residents and healthcare students. These supervisors receive pedagogical training to ensure that their guidance and teaching skills are constantly improved. The aim of such training is to develop participants’ patient, collegiate and student guidance skills in a multiprofessional environment, and to expand their understanding of guidance as part of their work as supervisors of healthcare professionals. In this paper, we …

Teachers’ intention to use educational video games: The moderating role of gender and age

2018

Educational video games represent an educational change that challenges teachers and managers of Higher Education institutions in several ways including their attitude formation and behavioural intention. Using a Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) approach a research model is developed to predict teachers’ behavioural intention to use educational video games in their courses. The research model is tested via structural equation modelling (SEM) on a sample of 312 Higher Education teachers. Main results suggest that perceived usefulness influences in a direct and positive way teachers’ behavioural intention while perceived ease of use indirectly influences intention through perceived usefulnes…
