Dynamic accommodation without feedback does not respond to isolated blur cues

AbstractThe visual information can be stored as either “active” representations in the active state or “activity-silent” representations in the passive state during the retention period in visual working memory (VWM). Catering to the dynamic nature of visual world, we explored how the temporally dynamic visual input was stored in VWM. Selective deficits in episodic feeling of knowing in ageing: A novel use of the general knowledge task

Failure to recall an item from memory can be accompanied by the subjective experience that the item is known but currently unavailable for report. The feeling of knowing (FOK) task allows measurement of the predictive accuracy of this reflective judgement. Young and older adults were asked to provide answers to general knowledge questions both prior to and after learning, thus measuring both semantic and episodic memory for the items. FOK judgements were made at each stage for all unrecalled responses, providing a measure of predictive accuracy for semantic and episodic knowledge. The difficulty of the postural control task affects multi-muscle control during quiet standing

The aim of this study was to compare the electromyographic (EMG) coherence between the lower limb and the core muscles when carrying out two postural tasks at different difficulty levels. EMG was recorded in 20 healthy male subjects while performing two independent quiet standing tasks. The first one involved a bipedal stance with the eyes open, while the second consisted of a dominant unipedal stance also with the eyes open. Symmetry, averageness, and feature size in the facial attractiveness of women

International audience; Female facial attractiveness was investigated by comparing the ratings made by male judges with the metric characteristics of female faces. Three kinds of facial characteristics were considered: facial symmetry, averageness, and size of individual features. The results suggested that female face attractiveness is greater when the face is symmetrical, is close to the average, and has certain features (e.g., large eyes, prominent cheekbones, thick lips, thin eyebrows, and a small nose and chin). Aims To update smoking prevalence trends in Italy among adult and young populations; to determine the recent spread, particularly among young smokers, of roll-your-own (RYO) cigarettes (which cost approximately half the price of manufactured cigarettes); and to evaluate the effects of 2013 legislation increasing the minimum tobacco purchasing age from 16 to 18 years in Italy. Six French Chardonnay wines were submitted to both sensory and combined headspace/gas chromatography-olfactometry analyses. The detection frequencies allowed five hierarchical levels to be distinguished: P25, the odorant areas (OAs) having a detection frequencyor =25% (the complete olfactogram without the odor noise); P40,or =40%; P55,or =55%; P70,or =70%; and P85,or =85%. Object switching within working memory is reflected in the human event-related brain potential

In two experiments applying a memory updating task subjects are asked to perform several arithmetic operations on stored numbers. From a trial-to-trial perspective these operations could be either performed on a previously processed item or on a new item which requires an object switch in working memory. Object switching results in prolonged operation times; these operation time costs reflect the switch of the focus of attention to the relevant information. Event-related brain potentials obtained in object switch trials show an increased P3a around 300 ms and a late, central negative component between 400 ms and 500 ms. Exploring the Enjoyment of Playing Browser Games

Browser games--mostly persistent game worlds that can be used without client software and monetary cost with a Web browser--belong to the understudied digital game types, although they attract large player communities and motivate sustained play. The present work reports findings from an online survey of 8,203 players of a German strategy browser game ("Travian"). Results suggest that multiplayer browser games are enjoyed primarily because of the social relationships involved in game play and the specific time and flexibility characteristics ("easy-in, easy-out").
