Measurement of interactions between polysaccharides and flavour compounds by exclusion size chromatography: Advantages and limits

1998

Interactions between flavour compounds and polysaccharides have been studied by exclusion size chromatography, the Hummel and Dreyer method. Hydrogen bonding was found between 2-acetyl thiazole and dextrines of different degrees of polymerisation. The number of binding sites and the affinity constant increase by increasing the degree of polymerisation. Hydrogen bonding was also responsible for the interactions between xanthane and 1-octen-3-ol or 2-acetyl pyrazine, with 1 mole of 1-octen-3-ol bound per pentasaccharide repeating unit. Unfortunately, the number of flavour compounds, which can be studied with this method, is limited due to their low water solubility and their low UV absorption.

Chemical heterogeneities in nanometric titanomagnetites prepared by soft chemistry and studied ex situ : evidence for fe-segregation and oxidation ki…

2001

Nanocrystalline Fe-based spinels with composition Fe3-xTixO4 are synthesized using soft chemistry. Two steps are involved:  precipitation in an aqueous solution followed by thermal annealing under a reducing mixture of N2/H2/H2O gases. Fe-segregation is found inside stoichiometric particles when the powders are studied ex situ; they exhibit a strong surface iron enrichment. This heterogeneity is related to kinetic effects linked to the difference of mobility between Fe2+ and Ti4+ cations during the partial oxidation of cations occurring ex situ. Stresses in the grains induced by oxidation govern the oxidation kinetics and lead to an abrupt compositional variation inside each particle. These…

Reaction pathways of glucose oxidation by ozone under acidic conditions.

2009

The ozonation of d-glucose-1-(13)C, 2-(13)C, and 6-(13)C was carried out at pH 2.5 in a semi-batch reactor at room temperature. The products present in the liquid phase were analyzed by GC-MS, HPAEC-PAD, and (13)C NMR spectroscopy. Common oxidation products of glucose have also been submitted to identical ozonation conditions. For the first time, a pentaric acid was identified and its formation quantitatively correlated to the loss of C-6 of glucose in the form of carbon dioxide. Potential mechanisms for the formation of this pentaric acid are discussed. The well-accepted pathway involving the anomeric position in glucose, gluconic acid, arabinose, and carbon dioxide is reinvestigated. The …

EUA and sCER Phase II Price Drivers: Unveiling the reasons for the existence of the EUA-sCER spread

2011

International audience; This article studies the price relationships between EU emissions allowances (EUAs) - valid under the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS) - and secondary Certified Emissions Reductions (sCERs)--established from primary CERs generated through the Kyoto Protocol's Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). Given the price differences between EUAs and sCERs, financial and industrial operators may benefit from arbitrage strategies by buying sCERs and selling EUAs (i.e. selling the EUA-sCER spread) to cover their compliance position as industrial operators are allowed to use sCERs towards compliance with their emissions cap within the European system up to 13.4%. Our central res…
