Teaching Adaptively for Music - Smart Opportunities Emerging from the Representation of Score Notation
2014
Many developmental approaches have been proposed in literature and are currently in use in order to define music education curricula for young students. In this context, our research aims at describing a computer-based framework for the adaptive teaching of music. A music learning environment can be considered as smart when adaptive technologies are employed in order to improve student performance. Research about effective teaching practice pointed out that adaptive instruction can provide school settings able to foster inclusion and differentiation. Adaptive instruction can be conceptually defined as a set of alternative didactic strategies – either formal or non-formal – within a curricul…
"From experience to existence. The taste, the social, the modal "
2018
New Insights into the complexation of lead(II) by 1,4,7,10-tetrakis(carbamoylmethyl)-1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane (DOTAM): structural, thermodynami…
2007
The lead(II) coordination properties of the tetrapodal ligand DOTAM [1,4,7,10-tetrakis(carbamoylmethyl)-1,4,7,10-tetraaza-cyclododecane] have been investigated both in the solid state and in solution in order to ascertain the stereoactivity of the lone pair and to rationalize the structural effects of a cyclen-based scaffold on the metal uptake kinetics. The crystal structure of the free base shows that the pendant acetamide groups are not equivalent: two are folded over the macrocycle and maintained by an intramolecular hydrogen bond involving an amide hydrogen atom and a neighboring tertiary amine of the cyclen ring, while the other two are extended and point away from the macrocyclic cav…
Collaborative leadership as the lens for co-creating an innovation - A curriculum reform in management education
2013
The paper presents collaborative leadership to create a curriculum reform in management education. In our case study, a particular business school wanted to re-modify its curriculum according to turbulence coming, first, outside of the school in terms of increasing complexity in business life and, second, from inside in terms of a large merger. As a consequence, in the co-creation process, a socially-mediated perturbance process started in the school in order to answer the turbulence. According our preliminary results, this kind of process seems to be multilevel and multiphase. It requires new attitudes and a change of the mindset to see management education containing not only knowledge bu…
Leadership, Perceptions, and Turnover Intentions: Why Stay?
2014
The purpose of the quantitative correlational study was to highlight the variable relationships between tenure, perceptions, job satisfaction, and turnover intentions for a sample consisting of individuals working for managers who were previously peers. The study incorporated a quantitative correlational structure and the rationale for choosing the structure for the initiative was to aid in the analysis of sample data gathered using Likert-type surveying tools regarding the variables chosen for the initiative. The findings, through conducting statistical analysis, highlighted significant correlation between job satisfaction and turnover intentions and significant correlation between percept…
Ethics and Responsibility in ICT-Enterprises - Prospects and Challenges for Management and Leadership
2009
In this article the author critically analyzes underlying discursive statements on managerial and leadership issues in relation to ethics and responsibility in information and communication technology enterprises – the firms and people involved in the case have a Finnish and/or Nordic background. The topic of the study is remarkably broad, and so this fact indicates the existence of limited, subjectively constructed views on multiple theoretical, methodological and empirical insights and dimensions. The issues of context, discourse and text are important in these kinds of qualitative interpretations. The triangle formed by technology, business and organization has some essence in contempora…
Leadership as an enabler of professional agency and creativity : case studies from the Finnish information technology sector
2018
This paper summarizes and elaborates the findings of a research project on leadership as an enabler of professional agency and creativity in information technology organizations. The synthesis in this paper is based on a summary of three primary studies. Each of the studies approached leadership, creativity and/or professional agency with a specific focus. Leaning on a mixed‐methods and ethnographic approach, including various empirical data collection and analytical tools, the project investigated the relationship between professional agency and creativity; issues that frame professional agency and creativity; and the meaning of leadership practices for the enhancement of agency and creati…
Antecedents of daily team job crafting
2017
This study investigated potential antecedents of team job crafting defined as the extent to which team members engage together in increasing (social and structural) job resources and challenges, and decreasing hindering job demands. Mindful of the teamwork literature, we hypothesized that individual employee factors (self-efficacy for teamwork, daily affect), team features (team cohesion, climate) and the organizational context of teams (engaging leadership and organizational resources for teamwork) relate positively to daily team job crafting behaviour. Data were collected among 46 multi-professional rehabilitation teams whose members completed two daily surveys after their weekly meetings…
Principles of responsibility in varying leadership contexts
2019
In this study, the understanding of the principles of responsibility in leadership between manager and employee is advanced. Through a qualitative case study approach the following research questions are answered: What principles of responsibility do managers and employees perceive as significant for leadership in the manager-employee relationship? What social contexts in the relationship call for the principles to occur? The topic was studied in two executive MBA groups which are our cases. The participants in these special groups have a lot of experience of leadership as both leader and employee. So, they can offer real life data from which results can be built. Additionally, such group p…
Development of student leadership skills and identity : a case study at a Finnish university
2017
The modern world is constantly changing and presents new challenges to individuals entering professional and adult life. Many scholars recognize that leadership skills are a crucial tool for solving problems in all areas of society.Leadership is no longer believed to be an inborn trait, but rather something that can be taught and learned. This thesis aims to understand how students at the University of Jyväskylä assess their own leadership skills and their importance. It would also like to discover which activities, organizations, courses and experiences influenced students’ leadership development and how. Ultimately, this thesis would like to highlight opportunities to promote student lead…
