Is a seminar based on student-created screen capture videos a meaningful way of learning?

We ran a problem-based seminar with screen capture videos. The students worked in small groups of two or three students or they completed the coursework individually. In this seminar the students had a workspace in the Optima environment for publishing their coursework videos. At the final phase of the course the students were expected to familiarize themselves with the presentations of other groups. In this paper we analyze the benefit of our problem-based coursework on the web by comparing the different phases of it. After each phase the students were expected to analyze the benefit of it for their learning. peerReviewed

The use of very high resolution images for studying Posidonia oceanica reefs

Posidonia oceanica is an endemic Mediterranean seagrass that forms wide and dense meadows from the surface up to about 40 m depth. This species can develop a biogenic structure called matte, a typical terraced formation built up by itself, consisting of intertwined rhizomes, roots and sediment, which may allow shoots to reach the sea surface forming reefs (récif barrière), considered natural monuments. Towards a framework for assessment and management of cumulative human impacts on marine food webs

Effective ecosystem-based management requires understanding ecosystem responses to multiple human threats, rather than focusing on single threats. To understand ecosystem responses to anthropogenic threats holistically, it is necessary to know how threats affect different components within ecosystems and ultimately alter ecosystem functioning. L’étude porte sur trois territoires de Gironde (France), situés le long d’un gradient d’urbanisation : la métropole de Bordeaux, le territoire périurbain du Créonnais et le territoire rural du Pays Foyen. Children's help seeking: the role of parenting

Abstract Ninety-nine families with a school-age child participated in this study, aimed at analysing the relationship between parenting and children's help seeking. The parenting data included self-reports on parents' child-rearing principles and behavioural observations during parent–child interactions. To test help seeking, the children were placed in a problem-solving situation and had the opportunity to seek help from the experimenter. For girls, higher levels of parental nurturance were linked to longer thinking times preceding help seeking and to lessened capacity to reuse previously received help. In my case study, I used two composing tasks to examine how the inclusive composing method (OSM) I have developed promotes the achievement of the aims of the new core curriculum for basic education 2014 and realises the core metaphors of learning. I have created a learning triangle tool to determine how the musical contents, the principles for developing working culture and the goals of music teaching, transversal competences and national education are linked with the latter.
