An Improved Detection Technique for Cyclic-Prefixed OFDM

2010

A novel Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing detection technique compatible to standard (e.g. Wireless LAN) transmitters is proposed. It features enhanced error-rate performance with flexible computational complexity and robustness to imperfect channel estimation. It is based on exploitation of the redundancy available in the cyclic prefix after cancellation of interference from the preceding block. In order to show the effectiveness of our proposal, an analysis of computational complexity and a number of comparisons to the standard per-subcarrier receiver and a previously existing method in terms of error rates are reported.

Demo - MAC learning: Enabling automatic combination of elementary protocol components

2016

Cognition as a way to deal with the challenges of future wireless networks has been largely considered by the recent literature, with a main focus on physical layer adaptability and dynamic spectrum access. In this demo, we show how a simple cognition mechanism can be also applied at the MAC layer, by exploiting the emerging paradigm of programmable wireless cards. The idea is using the formal definition of simple MAC protocol components and platform-independent representation of channel events gathered from the wireless node, for emulating the behavior of protocols which are not currently running on the network, learning about their expected performance, and dynamically reconfiguring the w…

A group-based wireless body sensors network using energy harvesting for soccer team monitoring

2016

[EN] In team-based sports, it is difficult to monitor physical state of each athlete during the match. Wearable body sensors with wireless connections allow having low-power and low-size devices, that may use energy harvesting, but with low radio coverage area but the main issue comes from the mobility. This paper presents a wireless body sensors network for soccer team players' monitoring. Each player has a body sensor network that use energy harvesting and each player will be a node in the wireless sensor network. This proposal is based on the zone mobility of the players and their dynamism. It allows knowing the physical state of each player during the whole match. Having fast updates an…

Improved resource allocation strategy in SU-CoMP network

2011

Coordinated multi-point transmission and reception (CoMP) for single user, named as SU-CoMP, is considered as an efficient approach to mitigate inter-cell interference in orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) systems. Two prevalent approaches in SU-CoMP are coordinated scheduling (CS) and joint processing (JP). Although JP in SU-CoMP has been proved to achieve a great link performance improvement for the cell-edge user, efficient resource allocation (RA) on the system level is quite needed. However, so far limited work has been done considering JP, and most existing schemes achieved the improvement of cell-edge performance at cost of the cell-average performance degradation …

Vox and journalistic information: use and criticism of the media in the 2019 General Election campaigns

2022

The general elections held in 2019 gave Vox enough votes to enter the Spanish Parliament as the third most popular political party. The growing role of this radical right-wing party has revealed a complex relationship with the media. The objective of this study is to characterise the relationship between Vox and the media by analysing the party's electoral discourse using quantitative techniques – posts made on Facebook and Twitter (n = 224) – and qualitative techniques, exploring the framing used in the closing rallies of the campaign. References to the media dominated the messages Vox posted on Twitter during the November campaign, whose main purpose was to repost content previously broad…

Resource allocation for clustered network MIMO OFDMA systems

2012

In this article, we address the resource allocation problem for the downlink of a large network multiple input multiple output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing system with 3-sector base stations. The system is statically divided into a number of disjoint clusters of sectors. A two-step resource allocation scheme is proposed involving the inter-cluster and the intra-cluster levels. As a first step or inter-cluster level, two cooperative frequency reuse approaches are designed to mitigate the inter-cluster interference. A user partition method is proposed to divide the users of each cluster into cluster-edge and cluster-center users. To balance the cell-edge and the cell-average per…

SDN@home: A Method for Controlling Future Wireless Home Networks

2016

Recent advances in wireless networking technologies are leading toward the proliferation of novel home network applications. However, the landscape of emerging scenarios is fragmented due to their varying technological requirements and the heterogeneity of current wireless technologies. We argue that the development of flexible software-defined wireless architectures, including such efforts as the wireless MAC processor, coupled with SDN concepts, will enable the support of both emerging and future home applications. In this article, we first identify problems with managing current home networks composed of separate network segments governed by different technologies. Second, we point out t…

Performance of power control in inter-cell interference coordination for frequency reuse

2010

To mitigate inter-cell interference in 3G evolution systems, a novel inter-cell interference coordination scheme called soft fractional frequency reuse is proposed in this article, which enables to improve the data rate in cell-edge. On this basis, an inter-cell power control is presented for the inter-cell interference coordination, and the inter-cell balanced signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) among users is established for power allocation, which enables mitigation of inter-cell interference. Especially, the power control is based on a novel exponential kernel equation at higher convergence speed than the traditional arithmetic kernel equations. Numerical results show that th…

Downlink radio resource allocation for coordinated cellular OFDMA networks

2010

Base station coordination is considered as a promising technique to mitigate inter-cell interference and improve the cell-edge performance in cellular orthogonal frequency division multiple-access (OFDMA) networks. The problem to design an efficient radio resource allocation scheme for coordinated cellular OFDMA networks incorporating base station coordination has been only partially investigated. In this contribution, a novel radio resource allocation algorithm with universal frequency reuse is proposed to support base station coordinated transmission. Firstly, with the assumption of global coordination between all base station sectors in the network, a coordinated subchannel assignment al…

Refinements on IEEE 802.11 Distributed Coordination Function Modeling Approaches

2010

With the popularity of the IEEE 802.11 standards, many analytical saturation throughput studies for the distributed coordination function (DCF) have been reported. In this paper, we outline a number of issues and criticalities raised by previously proposed models. In particular, a careful look at backoff counter decrement rules allows us to conclude that, under saturation conditions, the slot immediately following a successful transmission can be accessed only by the station (STA) that has successfully transmitted in the previous channel access. Moreover, due to the specific acknowledgment (ACK) timeout setting adopted in the standard, the slot immediately following a collision cannot be ac…
