IT-Enabled Effective and Efficient International Technology Transfer for SMEs
1999
This study describes the introduction of a new international technology transfer paradigm. The essence of this new paradigm is based on IT-enabled ITT process. The modern business environment is overwhelmed by increased competition and uncertainty, rapid changes in technology, a diminished technology life cycle, and the advent of more powerful, cheaper and easier to use ITs. These factors reinforce the need for the investigation of globalization possibilities of western SMEs via the utilization of high potential ITs in ITT. The ITT process has become more efficient as new ITs are integrated with SMEs’ existing information systems. This type of integration also eliminates many barriers of di…
Conceptual Framework for Attracting Foreign Patients to Health Care Services
2021
Given the global nature of health services and increasing competition between regions and health care providers, the aim of the study is to develop a theoretical framework and conceptual model for attracting foreign patients to the health care services. In this study, the authors have summarized the results of their previous empirical research based on integrative literature review to develop a comprehensive understanding of the dimensions and factors characterizing the phenomenon of international competitiveness of health care services. The theoretical study results were validated in expert interviews and applied research studies and the applicability of the developed model was tested in t…
Consumers’ acceptance of information and communications technology in tourism: A review
2017
The review provides a conceptual framework on e-tourism research.Research on e-tourism is grouped into three classifications.Research on these three groups are uneven.Synthesis of theories, theories and frameworks provided. The impact of information and communications technology (ICT) in tourism (e-tourism) has altered the ways tourism services are accessed and consumed. Ubiquitous and highly innovative ICTs provide different channels for consumers to use tourism services; thus, studies on e-tourism are numerous and fragmented. Different factors account for how consumers embrace these channels. The purpose of this study is to review studies on consumers acceptance or adoption of e-tourism i…
Do Videogames Simulate? Virtuality and Imitation in the Philosophy of Simulation
2015
Simulation. The concept of simulation has been contested in academia since its proliferation in the 1960s. This is hardly the case in videogame research, the subject of which is commonly discussed as a simulation or something that simulates with little analytical consideration of the term’s other scientific roles. Comparison. The article compares the simulation of videogame research to the ways in which other scientific sectors utilize the term. Problematic science communication. It turns out that videogame research has found an eccentric use for simulation with none or little relation to the term’s scientific (knowledge-driven) and etymological (imitational) predecessors. This becomes a p…

(ENTITY’S ENDS AND CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK. USERS OF FINANCIAL INFORMATION AND CONFLICTS OF INTERESTS). Conceptual Frameworks supply the rational bases upon which financial reports standards are built. Their study, then, is of core relevance for fully understanding essentials and trends of financial reports standard peculiar contents. Thus, in this work, the authors read again the structures of the two main International Frameworks (namely, the ‘private’ one by the IASB, and the ‘public’ one by the IPSASB) under the diachronic light shed by a critical and historical survey. This dynamic reading of the basic assumptions and principles of Conceptual Frameworks (from now on, simply, CF) focuses o…

Analysing Intercultural Dialogue Through Conceptual Densities
2020
In this chapter, we exemplify our methodological approach to analysing ‘densities’ of interrelated concepts in European education policy documents. We scrutinize instances where many of the core concepts of intercultural dialogue appear in the documents at the same time. Four core educational themes and four longer excerpts from the selected policy documents are examined in more detail. The chosen documents deal especially with multilingualism, migration, history teaching, and lifelong learning. The analysis of the conceptual densities in the chosen excerpts indicates how the meanings of intercultural dialogue are constructed through the conceptual frameworks and co-occurrences of their cor…
On the rhetoric and relevance of IS research paradigms: a conceptual framework and some propositions
2003
This paper discusses the relevance of IS research with respect to the rhetoric associated with three IS research paradigms in use - positivism, constructivism/interpretivism and critical research. The discussion is framed in terms of the following dimensions: ontological, epistemological and methodological assumptions, relationship between theory and practice, and the role of the researcher in the research process. Based on this discussion, the authors propose a theoretical framework to study the relationship of the espoused assumptions of a researcher's perspective with the degree of relevance of their knowledge claims to various stakeholders. In conclusion, some key propositions are eluci…
@DMOs Promote Hotel Occupancy in Tourist Destinations: An Abstract
2017
Destination marketing organizations (DMOs) are aware of Twitter’s relevance, and they have now integrated Twitter into their own websites (Luna-Nevarez and Hyman 2012). Because of their growing practical importance, social media have become strong allies for tourism destinations. Social media are used by both tourists and providers (Leung et al. 2013), so research is needed to show social media’s direct contribution to the tourism sector. To improve our knowledge of the effect of social media in tourism, this study examines how DMOs’ use of Twitter affects hotel occupancy in tourist destinations. Our conceptual framework presents a model of the links between predictors of tourist occupancy …
A qualidade do intercâmbio líder-membro (LMX) e o clima psicológico: Uma análise longitudinal das suas relações recíprocas
2014
Although the relationship between climate and leadership has been taken into account from different research and theoretical approaches, there is a lack of effort in the development of conceptual framework to understand the relationship between the development processes in both constructs. Grounding on the interactionist approach to the formation of climate and the Leader Member Exchange in leadership, Kozlowski and Doherty (1989) developed a conceptual framework that specifies the theoretical mechanisms linking both constructs. The lack of longitudinal designs hinders the possibility to test causal relationship between both constructs. The main objective of the present paper was to test a …
