Efficient, non-toxic anion transport by synthetic carriers in cells and epithelia.
2016
Transmembrane anion transporters (anionophores) have potential for new modes of biological activity, including therapeutic applications. In particular they might replace the activity of defective anion channels in conditions such as cystic fibrosis. However, data on the biological effects of anionophores are scarce, and it remains uncertain whether such molecules are fundamentally toxic. Here, we report a biological study of an extensive series of powerful anion carriers. Fifteen anionophores were assayed in single cells by monitoring anion transport in real time through fluorescence emission from halide-sensitive yellow fluorescent protein. A bis-(p-nitrophenyl)ureidodecalin shows especial…
Electronic structure of indium selenide probed by magnetoabsorption spectroscopy under high pressure
2010
We report on an investigation of the peculiar electronic structure of the layered semiconductor InSe by magneto-optical experiments under high pressure up to 5 GPa. Magneto-absorption spectroscopy is performed under pulsed magnetic field up to 53 T using a specific setup. Excitonic magnetofingerprints and high-field oscillatory magnetoabsorption yield significant details on the band structure. In addition, the application of an external pressure unveils phenomena that confirm the specific $\mathbf{k}\ensuremath{\cdot}\mathbf{p}$ model proposed for this compound on the basis of earlier measurements.
Source shape and data analysis procedure effects on hydraulic conductivity of a sandy-loam soil determined by ponding infiltration runs
2017
Performing ponding infiltration runs with non-circular sources could represent a good means to sample completely an area of interest. Regardless of the shape of the source, predicting the expected reliability of the collected data by infiltrometers should facilitate soil hydraulic characterisation and also allow a more conscious use of the field data. The influence of the shape of the infiltration source (i.e., circular or square) and the analysis procedure of the steady-state infiltration data on the saturated hydraulic conductivity, Ks, of a sandy-loam soil was tested in this investigation. Circular and square surfaces sampled with the pressure infiltrometer (PI) yielded similar estimates…
High-Pressure Raman Study of Zincblende, Cinnabar, and Cmcm Phases Of ZnTe
2002
Raman measurements of ZnTe have been performed at pressures up to 15 GPa. Frequencies, line widths, and intensities of first- and second-order Raman features of the zincblende phase (0-9.5 GPa) were studied in detail. In this note, we focus on the Raman spectra of the high-pressure cinnabar and Cmcm phases. In the transition regime from cinnabar to Cmcm (12.2 to 13.7 GPa) the Raman data indicate the possible existence of a new intermediate high-pressure phase.
Y:BaZrO3 Perovskite Compounds I: DFT Study on the Unprotonated and Protonated Local Structures
2011
Y-doped BaZrO(3) derivatives were studied by density functional theory (DFT) to investigate the local arrangements of the octahedral sites in Pm3m cubic frameworks. Single- and double substitution of zirconium by yttrium were considered, including in the presence of a nearby oxygen vacancy. Although the structural symmetry of undoped barium zirconate was not modified after yttrium doping, the presence of yttrium induced several differences in the oxygen sites around it, according to the local geometrical arrangement of yttrium in the host matrix. As an example, the differences between such oxygen sites were shown in the presence of a proton. In this case, different stabilization energies ch…
Spectral approach to D-bar problems
2017
We present the first numerical approach to D-bar problems having spectral convergence for real analytic, rapidly decreasing potentials. The proposed method starts from a formulation of the problem in terms of an integral equation that is numerically solved with Fourier techniques. The singular integrand is regularized analytically. The resulting integral equation is approximated via a discrete system that is solved with Krylov methods. As an example, the D-bar problem for the Davey-Stewartson II equations is considered. The result is used to test direct numerical solutions of the PDE.© 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
Annealed Invariance Principle for Random Walks on Random Graphs Generated by Point Processes in R-d
2016
International audience; We consider simple random walks on random graphs embedded in R-d and generated by point processes such as Delaunay triangulations, Gabriel graphs and the creek-crossing graphs. Under suitable assumptions on the point process, we show an annealed invariance principle for these random walks. These results hold for a large variety of point processes including Poisson point processes, Matern cluster and Matern hardcore processes which have respectively clustering and repulsiveness properties. The proof relies on the use the process of the environment seen from the particle. It allows to reconstruct the original process as an additive functional of a Markovian process und…
On the Effect of Surface Treatment to Improve Oxidation Resistance and Conductivity of Metallic Interconnects for SOFC in Operating Conditions
2008
International audience; Due to the reduction of operating temperature from 1000°C to 800°C, chromia forming alloys are the best candidates for interconnects in Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFCs). These interconnects have to be operational in service conditions, at 800°C in air (cathode side) and in humidified hydrogen (anode side). The performance of the interconnect stainless steels is limited by the oxide scale formation (chromia), the low electronic conductivity of this scale and the possible volatility of chromium oxides. In the field of high temperature oxidation of metals, it is well known that the addition of a nanometric layer made of reactive element oxide such as, La2O3, Nd2O3 and Y2O…
Gelled Electrolyte Containing Phosphonium Ionic Liquids for Lithium-Ion Batteries
2018
In this work, new gelled electrolytes were prepared based on a mixture containing phosphonium ionic liquid (IL) composed of trihexyl(tetradecyl)phosphonium cation combined with bis(trifluoromethane)sulfonimide [TFSI] counter anions and lithium salt, confined in a host network made from an epoxy prepolymer and amine hardener. We have demonstrated that the addition of electrolyte plays a key role on the kinetics of polymerization but also on the final properties of epoxy networks, especially thermal, thermo-mechanical, transport, and electrochemical properties. Thus, polymer electrolytes with excellent thermal stability (>
Measurement of the intergranular corrosion growth kinetics on a 2024 aluminium alloy : new experimental approaches of damage as function of the envir…
2017
Costs of aeronautical maintenance can be reduced by implementation of “smart” inspection strategies integrating predictive data on the evolution of defects such as the propagation rate of intergranular corrosion. In this work, intergranular corrosion damage on 2024 aluminium alloy was characterized by two modes : the “perforating” damage (dissolution of the grain boundary tips) and the “blunting” damage (dissolution of the grain walls in the intergranular cavities). To evaluate the “perforating” damage, a new version of the TFP method (OTFP method) which is more complete, was designed. The OTFP method allows to detect all the intergranular corrosion defects and not only the fastest full pene…
