Modifications électrochimiques de surfaces et dispositifs électroniques organiques
2018
Organic electronics remains a fruitful research field thanks to the diversity of molecular structures reachable by organic synthesis. Molecular materials offer convenient shaping processes, such as solution processing techniques, which can be used for the fabrication of organic devices on plastic substrates. Our works can be summarized as the elaboration of conductometric devices thanks to electrochemistry and the study of their electrical and sensing properties. They deal with two topics: the development of new transducers based on substituted polyanilines and phthalocyanines and the study of the influence of electrochemical modifications on the behavior of known devices. We first developped…
Photoelectrochemical Synthesis of Polypyrrole on Anodic Ta2O5 Films
2007
Polypyrrole film was photoelectrochemically grown on insulating Ta2O5 anodic film in acetonitrile solution. A characterization by photocurrent spectroscopy PCS of metal/oxide/polypyrrole interface was carried out. The PCS results suggest that a metallic-like PPy is formed under illumination at constant anodic potential. By polarizing the polypyrrole at cathodic potentials a photocurrent spectrum typical of p-type semiconducting film was recorded. A scanning electron microscopy study of PPy surfaces solution side and oxide side allowed us to obtain information on the morphology of the polymer as well as a rough estimate of the film thickness and of the diameter of PPy globules at the two int…
Light-induced demixing of hole or electron transporting moieties
2004
This paper describes the synthesis of two tri-phenylamine monomers (hole conducting) and one triazine monomer (electron conducting) which differ in their copolymerization parameters because of their styrene and vinyl ester nature. A blend of triphenylamine monomer and poly-(ethylene glycol) and mixtures of both types of monomers (triphepylamine and triazine) were illuminated through a line mask, creating laterally modulated radicals, thus leading to lateral demixing. The experiments with mixtures of triphenylamine and triazine monomers show that the concentration of p- or n-type polymers can be modulated laterally in a controlled way.
Experimental study of electron transport in mesoscopic carbon based nanostructures
2012
In this thesis we have studied experimentally electronic transport in mesoscopic hybrid polypyrrole-gold devices and single multiwalled carbon nanotube devices. A novel fabrication technique for mesoscopic conducting hybrid polymer-gold films has been developed. The hybrid polymer-gold films have been fabricated by electrochemical deposition of polypyrrole on a gold nanoisland layer. Temperature dependence of conductance show that the dominant transport mechanism in the polypyrrole-gold films is variable range hopping in the temperature range from 20 K to 300 K. At very low temperature strong nonlinearities in the field dependent conductance are observed. The field dependence follows a phen…
In Situ Synthesis of Polythiophene and Silver Nanoparticles within a PMMA Matrix: A Nanocomposite Approach to Thermoelectrics
2022
The processability of organic thermoelectric materials plays a crucial role due to their clear advantages of applicability in large-scale areas compared to traditional inorganic counterparts. A promising way to process thermoelectric materials based on conductive polymers is through in situ polymerization in an insulating polymer matrix. This work shows an interpenetrating polymeric network based on polythiophene, silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs), and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) produced by the oxidative polymerization of terthiophene by an oxidizing silver salt in a PMMA matrix. Ag NPs are in situ synthesized simultaneously as a byproduct. The reaction occurs very fast in the solid state…
Measuring optical anisotropy in poly(3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate) films with added graphene
2015
Abstract Graphene is a 2D nanomaterial having a great potential for applications in electronics and optoelectronics. Composites of graphene with conducting polymers have shown high performance in practical devices and their solution-processability enables low-cost and high-throughput mass manufacturing using printing techniques. Here we measure the effect of incorporation of graphene into poly(3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) to the optical anisotropy, absorbance and conductivity of the film. Uniaxial anisotropy in PEDOT:PSS films has been thought to be caused by the spin-coating process used in fabrication. We have characterized spray- and spin-coated films …
