Con este artículo se pretende ofrecer una visión global sobre los procesos de “confesionalización” y “disciplinamiento social” de las sociedades europeas de los siglos XVI y XVII. Paralelamente nos planteamos demostrar la necesaria correlación de estos dos paradigmas historiográficos y su relevancia para el análisis de los fenómenos religiosos, políticos y sociales de la Edad Moderna.
Limits of Power. Clerical Appointment as Part of Domestic Policy in Sweden after the Reformation, 1560–1611

Abstract This article examines state-church relations in Sweden by analysing clerical appointment processes in the latter part of the 16th century. The aim is to ascertain whether the king of Sweden could appoint pastors independently, and if not, with whom he was compelled to share the power. Earlier studies argue that the power of the king grew due to the reformation. First, this article examines the number of clerical appointments that were made in the period 1560-1611. This dissertation and the four separate articles contained therein examine Finnish pastors as builders of the Swedish state from the 1550s to the 1610s. The subject is studied from three perspectives. First, the relationship between the crown and the church (and the pastors) is explored. Second, the study investigates the relationship between the pastors and local communities. The third aspect connects the first two as it sheds light on the pastors’ role as intermediators between local communities and the crown. These perspectives provide the essential frameworks in which state build-ing took place: the centers of the realm, the local communities, and interaction be-tween the two. The sourc…
