Effect of self-regulatory behaviour change techniques and predictors of physical activity maintenance in cancer survivors: a 12-month follow-up of th…
2021
Abstract Background Current knowledge about the promotion of long-term physical activity (PA) maintenance in cancer survivors is limited. The aims of this study were to 1) determine the effect of self-regulatory BCTs on long-term PA maintenance, and 2) identify predictors of long-term PA maintenance in cancer survivors 12 months after participating in a six-month exercise intervention during cancer treatment. Methods In a multicentre study with a 2 × 2 factorial design, the Phys-Can RCT, 577 participants with curable breast, colorectal or prostate cancer and starting their cancer treatment, were randomized to high intensity exercise with or without self-regulatory behaviour change technique…
Postoperative Radiation Therapy in Patients with Extracranial Chondrosarcoma: A Joint Study of the French Sarcoma Group and Rare Cancer Network
2020
International audience; PurposePostoperative radiation therapy (poRT) of intracranial/skull base chondrosarcomas (CHSs) is standard treatment. However, consensus is lacking for poRT in extracranial CHS (eCHS) owing to their easier resectability and intrinsic radioresistance. We assessed the practice and efficacy of poRT in eCHS.Methods and MaterialsThis multicentric retrospective study of the French Sarcoma Group/Rare Cancer Network included patients with eCHS who were operated on between 1985 and 2015. Inverse propensity score weighting (IPTW) was used to minimize poRT allocation biases.ResultsOf 182 patients, 60.4% had bone and 39.6% had soft-tissue eCHS. eCHS were of conventional (31.9%)…
Malignant germ cell tumors in childhood: results of the first Italian cooperative study "TCG 91".
2003
Background and Aims About 20% of patients with germ cell tumor (GCT) are still resistant to therapy. To investigate which features are present in resistant patients, a multicenter study on GCT in children was undertaken to correlate clinical and laboratory parameters with the outcome. Methods Patients aged less than 16 years, with histologically proven extracranial GCT were included. Results Ninety-five patients (median age 33 months, 45 males) were eligible. The site of the primary tumor was gonadal in 59, extragonadal in 36. The stage was I in 39; II in 5; IIIa (microscopic residue) in 7; IIIb (macroscopic residue) in 16; IIIc (unresectable) in 13; IV in 15. The treatment was surgery alon…
Early Treatment With Zofenopril and Ramipril in Combination With Acetyl Salicylic Acid in Patients With Left Ventricular Systolic Dysfunction After A…
2017
Abstract: The SMILE-4 study showed that in patients with left ventricular dysfunction (LVD) after acute myocardial infarction, early treatment with zofenopril plus acetyl salicylic acid is associated with an improved 1-year survival, free from death or hospitalization for cardiovascular (CV) causes, as compared to ramipril plus acetyl salicylic acid. We now report CV outcomes during a 5-year follow-up of the patients of the SMILE-4 study. Three hundred eighty-six of the 518 patients completing the study (51.2%) could be tracked after the study end and 265 could be included in the analysis. During the 5.5 (±2.1) years of follow-up, the primary endpoint occurred in 27.8% of patients originall…
5-Year Experience of In-Hospital Outcomes After Percutaneous Left Atrial Appendage Closure in Germany
2019
The aim of this study was to evaluate 5-year in-hospital trends and safety outcomes of left atrial appendage (LAA) closure in the German nationwide inpatient sample. The safety and efficacy of percutaneous LAA closure have been demonstrated in randomized trials and prospective cohort studies, but results from large samples are missing.Data on patient characteristics and in-hospital safety outcomes for all percutaneous LAA closures performed in Germany between 2011 and 2015 were analyzed. Overall, 15,895 inpatients were included. The annual number of LAA occlusions increased from 1,347 in 2011 to 4,932 in 2015 (β = 1.00; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.95 to 1.01; p 0.001), with a nonsignifica…
N-terminal Pro-brain Natriuretic Peptide and High-sensitivity Troponin in the Evaluation of Acute Chest Pain of Uncertain Etiology. A PITAGORAS Subst…
2013
Abstract Introduction and objectives High-sensitivity troponin assays have improved the diagnosis of acute coronary syndrome in patients presenting with chest pain and normal troponin levels as measured by conventional assays. Our aim was to investigate whether N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide provides additional information to troponin determination in these patients. Methods A total of 398 patients, included in the PITAGORAS study, presenting to the emergency department with chest pain and normal troponin levels as measured by conventional assay in 2 serial samples (on arrival and 6 h to 8 h later) were studied. The samples were also analyzed in a central laboratory for high-sensi…
Association between food insecurity and depression among older adults from low- and middle-income countries.
2021
Background:\ud \ud To examine the association between self‐reported food insecurity and depression in 34,129 individuals aged ≥50 years from six low‐ and middle‐income countries (LMICs) (China, Ghana, India, Mexico, Russia, and South Africa).\ud \ud Methods:\ud \ud Cross‐sectional, community‐based, nationally representative data from the WHO Study on global AGEing and adult health (SAGE) were analyzed. Self‐reported past 12‐month food insecurity was assessed with two questions on frequency of eating less and hunger due to lack of food. Questions based on the World Mental Health Survey version of the Composite International Diagnostic Interview were used for the endorsement of past 12‐month …
Test-retest reliability of selected items of Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) survey questionnaire in Beijing, China
2010
Abstract Background Children's health and health behaviour are essential for their development and it is important to obtain abundant and accurate information to understand young people's health and health behaviour. The Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) study is among the first large-scale international surveys on adolescent health through self-report questionnaires. So far, more than 40 countries in Europe and North America have been involved in the HBSC study. The purpose of this study is to assess the test-retest reliability of selected items in the Chinese version of the HBSC survey questionnaire in a sample of adolescents in Beijing, China. Methods A sample of 95 male an…
Characteristics of patients with hepatitis C virus-related chronic liver diseases just before the era of oral direct-acting antiviral therapy in Italy
2018
Background In 2017, oral direct-acting antiviral (DAA) therapy for chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection became available free of charge for all HCV-RNA-positive patients, irrespective of their fibrosis stage. Aim The aim of this study was to evaluate the characteristics of HCV-related chronic liver disease (CLD) in Italy just before the introduction of DAA therapy. Patients and methods Patients with CLD were enrolled in two national surveys conducted in 2001 and in 2014. The two surveys prospectively enrolled patients aged older than 18 years referring to Italian liver units throughout the country using a similar clinical approach and analytical methods. Results Out of the 12 564 patie…
Surrounding Greenness and Pregnancy Outcomes in Four Spanish Birth Cohorts
2012
Background: Green spaces have been associated with improved physical and mental health; however, the available evidence on the impact of green spaces on pregnancy is scarce. Objectives: We investigated the association between surrounding greenness and birth weight, head circumference, and gestational age at delivery. Methods: This study was based on 2, 393 singleton live births from four Spanish birth cohorts (Asturias, Gipuzkoa, Sabadell, and Valencia) located in two regions of the Iberian Peninsula with distinct climates and vegetation patterns (2003–2008). We defined surrounding greenness as average of satellite-based Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) (Landsat 4–5 TM data at …
