Responsiveness and minimal important difference of the urticaria control test
2017
This study demonstrates the responsiveness of the Urticaria Control Test (UCT). Changes of its score by 3 points or more reflect a clinically relevant change of disease control (minimal important difference).
FRI0318 Health care resource utilisation (HCRU) and cost analyses of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) as a function of disease severity: analysis o…
2018
Background SLE is a severe, chronic autoimmune disease of the connective tissue involving multiple organ systems. Understanding the economic burden of SLE in the context of disease severity is important when considering new therapeutic options. Objectives HCRU and costs associated with SLE were examined retrospectively using anonymized data from a German Sickness Fund database. Methods Real-world claims for adult (≥18 years old) patients (pts) with SLE from a German Sickness Fund database of company health insurance schemes were analysed. HCRU and costs were assessed annually for 2009–2014 for pts diagnosed with SLE in 2009 and validated using repeated SLE-related claims, co-diagnosis codes…

2018
Purpose Real-world HRU and medical cost analyses support drug development in SLE. The economic burden of SLE as a function of disease severity was quantified for a German cohort. Methods HRU and cost analyses were performed for patients (≥18 years old) with SLE and compared with those of matched controls for 2009–2014 using the Betriebskrankenkassen (BKK) German Sickness Fund Database. BKK is a branch of the statutory German health insurance. SLE was confirmed in 2009 using the diagnosing physician’s specialty, repeated SLE-related claims, co-diagnosis codes, laboratory tests, or prescriptions. At least 3 years’ data was also required prior to 2009. SLE cases were control matched by age, se…

In the last few years, diagnostics of high-risk breast lesions (atypical ductal hyperplasia [ADH], flat epithelial atypia [FEA], lobular neoplasia: atypical lobular hyperplasia [ALH], lobular carcinoma in situ [LCIS], radial scar [RS], usual ductal hyperplasia [UDH], adenosis, sclerosing adenosis [SA], papillary breast lesions, mucocele-like lesion [MLL]) have increased with the growing number of breast percutaneous biopsies. The management of these lesions is highly conditioned by the enlarged risk of breast cancer combined with either an increased probability of finding cancer after surgery, either a possible malignant transformation (in situ or invasive cancer), or an increased probabili…

AIM: To assess the esophageal motility in patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and to compare those with patients with autoimmune disorders. METHODS: 15 patients with IBS, 22 with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and 19 with systemic sclerosis (SSc) were prospectively selected from a total of 115 patients at a single university centre and esophageal motility was analysed using standard manometry (Mui Scientific PIP-4-8SS). All patients underwent esophago-gastro-duodenoscopy before entering the study so that only patients with normal endoscopic findings were included in the current study. All patients underwent a complete physical, blood biochemistry and urinary examination. The gr…
A time-geographic approach for visualizing the paths of intervention for persons with severe mental illness
2017
Living conditions for persons with severe mental illness (SMI) in Sweden have changed dramatically in recent decades, mainly due to the closure of mental hospitals in the 1990s and the subsequent d ...
Nachweis von SLA/LP-Autoantikörpern bei Patienten mit primär biliärer Zirrhose als Marker für eine sekundäre autoimmune Hepatitis (Overlapsyndrom)
2001
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to evaluate whether the presence of SLA/LP-autoantibodies in PBC-patients gives evidence for a secondary AIH, also called AIH/PBC-overlap-syndrome. PATIENTS AND METHODS Out of 233 consecutive patients with PBC who had been followed between October 1980 and April 2000, we evaluated the data of anti-SLA/LP-positive patients and compared them to patients with an anti-SLA/LP-negative AIH/PBC overlap syndrome as well as to patients with a classical course of AIH and PBC. RESULTS In total we could identify nine PBC patients with anti-SLA/LP antibodies (six women/three men) or 3.9% of the study population, Anti-SLA/LP-positive PBC patients were sl…

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed malignancy in women in Poland. Rare, unusual forms of breast cancer remain a diagnostic problem. The incidence of ectopic breast glandular tissue in the general population varies between 0.4 and 6%. The same abnormalities and diseases as in the anatomical mammary gland may develop in this tissue. Breast cancer may develop as well. We present the case of a 36-year-old woman, who went to the doctor because of a nodule in the right armpit presented for 2 years. The patient was referred to a surgeon with suspicion of an epidermal cyst. The lesion was surgically removed and in the histopathological examination, the diagnose was: invasive breast cancer…
Enzymatic Determination in Serum of Lathyritic and Prednisone-treated Lathyritic Rats
1966
WHILE a remarkably raised serum-level of transaminases and aldolase is found in dermatomyositis, such augmentation, as a rule, is not found in cases of severe muscular involvement of scleroderma and disseminated lupus erythematosus (acutus)1–3.
Coronary CT angiography: a guide to examination, interpretation, and clinical indications
2021
Introduction: The introduction of Cardiac Computed Tomography (CCT) has changed the paradigm in the field of diagnostic cardiovascular medicine. CCT is the primary tool in the assessment of suspected Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) and should be followed by functional assessment when needed to stratify disease and to plan potential interventional or surgical therapy. Areas Covered: We provided the current state of the knowledge on the main aspects of technique of examination, image interpretation and clinical indications. We have focused our attention on the basic routine applications and activities. Expert Opinion: The primary role of CCT in suspected CAD will progressively become the standa…
