Come annunciato nel titolo, il volume cerca di ricostruire, basandosi sulle informazioni disponibili, circa mille anni delle traversie del palazzo della Zisa di Palermo. Alcuni studiosi del passato, nella foga della ricerca, hanno forzato più o meno lievemente qualche interpretazione, che altri però successivamente hanno accolto come assoluta ed inoppugnabile verità. The paper explains how the subjects of the Restoration discipline are taught in the Faculty of Architecture (University of Palermo) that promoted the activation of specific degrees in the Palermo University Athenaeum. The teaching methodology is supported by a powerful tool that is the applied work of research, developed by the Laboratorio di Indagini e Restauro dei Beni Architettonici L.I.R.B.A. “Salvatore Boscarino”. The pedagogy of teaching sets out with the basic level formation and develops up to the acquisition of the necessary knowledge and experiences for the conservation planning and the direction of the correlated site.

A restoration may constitute a positive moment to guarantee the conservation, transmission and a compatible use of an historical architecture, but it is often the result of a long and guilty omission of care, attesting a lack of interest in the architectural heritage we are late forced to heal with extensive and inva-sive interventions that, in most cases, could be prevented. The paper presents the results of a campaign of non-destructive and minimally invasive tests that were conducted in the church of Santa Maria delle Stelle in Comiso (Ragusa, Sicily), which is the larger church in the Diocese of Ragusa. It includes a summary of the reflections that arose during the preliminary surveys and instrumental tests, and reasons that supported the choice of investigations to be performed and methods to be specifically applied for the consolidation of the architectural structures and plaster layers.
