Mathematical Models and their Solutions for Domains of Compex Form
2014
Promocijas darbā tiek apskatīti dažādi oriģināli modeļi un to risinājumi sarežģītas formas apgabaliem.
Effect of two different tooth bleaching techniques on microhardness of giomer
2016
Background Tooth bleaching is a safe and conservative treatment modality to improve the esthetic appearance of discolored teeth. One of the problems with the use of bleaching agents is their possible effect on surface microhardness of resin-based materials. The present study was carried out to evaluate the effect of in-office and at-home bleaching on surface microhardness of giomer. Material and Methods Seventy-five disk-shaped giomer samples (Beautifil II) were prepared and cured with a light-curing unit. The samples were randomly assigned to three groups (n=25). In group 1 (control), the samples were stored in distilled water for 14 days. The samples in groups 2 and 3 underwent a bleachin…

Current Concepts in Therapy of Chronic Rhinosinusitis and Nasal Polyposis
2004
The exact pathophysiological mechanisms leading to chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) still to a large extent remain obscure. However, recently there has been some progress in elucidating the etiology of nasal polyposis, especially regarding tissue eosinophilia as well as the role of aspirin intolerance and eicosanoid mediators. Endonasal sinus surgery has evolved to be the treatment of choice in CRS and nasal polyposis in all cases where conservative treatment has failed or resulted in only a partial or temporary relief. Today, state of the art in surgical technique includes the ability to combine microscopic and endoscopic procedures. Regardless of technical advances like powered instrumentatio…
T1HG Bladder Tumours: So Many Papers, Do We Need Them? Yes, We Do!
2009
“How many roads a man must walk on….” and how many papers we must read and write… to put down the final word on the appropriate management of high risk NMI-BC. Although it is more than 20 years that we take notice of promises on biological markers predictive of the behaviour of NMI-BC, till today we can only base our decisions on clinical and pathological data. Consequently, we need exchange of experiences and reports on the outcome of these patients. The aim of the treatment of T1 bladder tumours is to minimize mortality while assuring reduced morbidity and good quality of life. A conservative approach is, obviously, not applicable to all T1HG tumours. We need to identify unequivocal selec…
Consensus statement of the Italian society of colorectal surgery (SICCR): management and treatment of hemorrhoidal disease
2020
AbstractHemorrhoidal disease (HD) is the most common proctological disease in the Western countries. However, its real prevalence is underestimated due to the frequent self-medication.The aim of this consensus statement is to provide evidence-based data to allow an individualized and appropriate management and treatment of HD. The strategy used to search for evidence was based on application of electronic sources such as MEDLINE, PubMed, Cochrane Review Library, CINAHL, and EMBASE.These guidelines are inclusive and not prescriptive. The recommendations were defined and graded based on the current levels of evidence and in accordance with the criteria adopted by American College of Chest Phys…
Conservative management of dentigerous cysts in children
2015
Purpose and Introduction: Dentigerous cysts are epithelial in origin and are the most commonly found cyst in children. The majority of these lesions are usually a radiological finding and are capable of quite large before being diagnosed. The standard treatment for these cysts is the enucleation and the extraction of the affected tooth. However, if the patient is a child and the affected tooth is not developed, a more conservative attitude should be considered. Material and Methods: (Clinical case): A 7-year-old patient is presented with an eruptive backlog of the lower permanent first molars. Radiological examination reveals two radiolucid lesions in relation to them, which are compatible …
Conservative Management for Odontoid Cervical Fractures: Halo or Rigid Cervical Collar?
2016
Odontoid fractures are the most common fractures of the cervical spine, especially in the elderly. They account for approximately one third of cervical spine fractures, and with the aging of the world population, the incidence and clinical and social relevance of such pathology are likely to increase. Odontoid fractures may occur from high-energy mechanisms, particularly in younger patients, but low-energy trauma may be the causative factor in the geriatric population. Overall, the treatment of patients with odontoid process fractures is based on the type of the fracture, patient's health status, age, association with neurologic deficits, and personal preference of the surgeon. Relative ind…

Aneurysmal bone cyst of the mandible with conservative surgical management : a case report
2019
The aneurysmal bone cyst is a nonneoplastic, osteolytic and locally destructive lesion that mainly affects the metaphyseal area of long bones and only 2% of it is diagnosed in the maxillofacial skeleton. Although surgical treatment is the most common option, it is associated to high morbidity rates. The case of an aneurysmal bone cyst of a considerable size in a 27-year-old male patient illustrating a conservative surgical approach with preservation of the dental structures in the mandible to limit aesthetic and functional side effects is presented. Two-year clinical follow-up was performed with no evidence of recurrence. Key words:Aneurysmal bone cyst; curettage, conservative treatment, ma…
