RILIEVO E ANALISI GEOMETRICA, DIMENSIONALE E COSTRUTTIVA DELLE VOLTE A MUQARNAS COSTRUITE A PALERMO NEL XII SECOLO
2020
Mapping Seasonal Variability of Buildings Electricity Demand profiles in Mediterranean Small Islands
2023
In communities with a high tourist influx and warm climate, such as Mediterranean small islands, the energy demands for space cooling and domestic hot water are expected to significantly increase during summer. Considering the current energy context, for succeeding energy transition and reducing the dependency on not endogenous fossil fuels, it is paramount to increase the deployment of renewable sources of energy, especially wind and solar which, however, are aleatory and unpredictable. Hence, to reduce the high costs for energy supply in these contexts, the analysis of the variation of energy consumption is fundamental. Moreover, mapping the spatial distribution of energy profiles can be …
Spatial Diagnostics of Hg/Ar and Hg/Xe Discharge Lamps by Means of Tomography
2011
In this work, the diagnostics using tomography in Hg/Xe and Hg/Ar capillary lamps is presented. First, the imaging of the lamps was performed using selected emission lines of mercury, argon and xenon in different operation conditions. Thus the tomographic reconstruction was made, to determine the spatial distribution of the emitting Hg and rare gas atoms. Significant differences of the distribution of the emitting atoms have been found in vertical and horizontal operation positions. The emitting mercury atoms in the state 73S1 were differently distributed within the lamp in the vertical and horizontal lamp positions. The radial profile has demonstrated a substantial depletion of the popula…
Career counselling for women managers at mid‐career
2008
PurposeThis paper aims to provide a framework for career counselling designed particularly to support the career development of mid‐career women managers. This approach is referred to as an autobiographical approach to career counselling. The practical application of the approach is described.Design/methodology/approachThe autobiographical approach draws upon social constructionism and narrativity. It was developed and applied together with 22 women managers. Various methods were used as narration tools.FindingsAt mid‐career, women managers are often in a transition process in their career. They can be expected to benefit from counselling that focuses on their long work experience and from …
Framing Social Work Discourses of Violence Against Women. Insights From Finland and India
2021
Violence against women (VAW) is a global social problem. In India, its high prevalence is connected to gender inequality, whereas Finland suffers from the so-called Nordic Paradox—that is, the existence of both gender equality and a high prevalence of VAW. This qualitative study employed a critical constructioniist approach and frame analysis to analyze data from interviews with Finnish (n =20) and Mumbai (n =18) social workers. We asked how social workers frame their response to VAW and how ways of framing elucidate institutional practices that facilitate the interventions. Anti-oppressive, juridical, procedural, and collaborational frames revealed institutional practices mirroring how soc…
Robust Light Field Watermarking by 4D Wavelet Transform
2020
Unlike common 2D images, the light field representation of a scene delivers spatial and angular description which is of paramount importance for 3D reconstruction. Despite the numerous methods proposed for 2D image watermarking, such methods do not address the angular information of the light field. Hence the exploitation of such methods may cause severe destruction of the angular information. In this paper, we propose a novel method for light field watermarking with extensive consideration of the spatial and angular information. Considering the 4D innate of the light field, the proposed method incorporates 4D wavelet for the purpose of watermarking and converts the heavily-correlated chann…
Finite Alphabet Control of Logistic Networks with Discrete Uncertainty
2014
We consider logistic networks in which the control and disturbance inputs take values in finite sets. We derive a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of robustly control invariant (hyperbox) sets. We show that a stronger version of this condition is sufficient to guarantee robust global attractivity, and we construct a counterexample demonstrating that it is not necessary. Being constructive, our proofs of sufficiency allow us to extract the corresponding robust control laws and to establish the invariance of certain sets. Finally, we highlight parallels between our results and existing results in the literature, and we conclude our study with two simple illustrative exampl…
Constructive Dynamic Program Slicing Research
2010
Program slicing is a promising technique for providing automated support for various important software engineering activities. There exists hundreds of scientific studies on the theory of slicing. However, slicing is still not widely applied in software industry. Therefore, there is a need to survey and characterize the conducted research and to analyze what problems hinder progress. This paper answers to that need by providing a survey of constructive dynamic program slicing research focusing on publication series with high visibility. The survey identified 12 dynamic slicers related to which 12 aspects were studied. The analysis revealed many issues which can be seen both as concerns and…
A platform for the development and the validation of HW IP components starting from reference software specifications
2008
Abstract Signal processing algorithms become more and more efficient as a result of the developments of new standards. It is particularly true in the field video compression. However, at each improvement in efficiency and functionality, the complexity of the algorithms is also increasing. Textual specifications, that in the past were the original form of specifications, have been substituted by reference software which became the starting point of any design flow leading to implementation. Therefore, designing an embedded application has become equivalent to port a generic software on a, possibly heterogeneous, embedded platform. Such operation is getting more and more difficult because of …
Amount of nonconstructivity in deterministic finite automata
2010
AbstractWhen D. Hilbert used nonconstructive methods in his famous paper on invariants (1888), P. Gordan tried to prevent the publication of this paper considering these methods as non-mathematical. L.E.J. Brouwer in the early twentieth century initiated intuitionist movement in mathematics. His slogan was “nonconstructive arguments have no value for mathematics”. However, P. Erdös got many exciting results in discrete mathematics by nonconstructive methods. It is widely believed that these results either cannot be proved by constructive methods or the proofs would have been prohibitively complicated. The author (Freivalds, 2008) [10] showed that nonconstructive methods in coding theory are…
