Image analysis for detecting aggregate gradation in asphalt mixture from planar images

Abstract The mechanical properties of bituminous mixture strongly depend on the gradation of the aggregate that represents the mineral skeleton of the mixture, since for open and gap-graded mixtures, stresses due to vehicles in movement on the pavement are mainly transmitted through their contacts. Internal structure of bituminous mixture is, therefore, of great interest for road and infrastructure engineering and it is appropriate to study it with recently developed image analysis method. HDR image generation from LDR image with highlight removal

The emergency of High Dynamic Range (HDR) display device impels the study of generating HDR image from Low Dynamic Range (LDR) image. Most existing generation methods apply complicated handing to highlight areas in image, which perplexes the algorithm and introduces the probability of generating artifacts. In this paper, we investigate a separated scheme: instead of sophisticated treatment to the highlight areas during expanding, the processing to the highlight areas is separated from the dynamic range expansion, which facilitates the framework and reduces the artifacts. Multifacet structure of observed reconstructed integral images.

Three-dimensional images generated by an integral imaging system suffer from degradations in the form of grid of multiple facets. This multifacet structure breaks the continuity of the observed image and therefore reduces its visual quality. We perform an analysis of this effect and present the guidelines in the design of lenslet imaging parameters for optimization of viewing conditions with respect to the multifacet degradation. We consider the optimization of the system in terms of field of view, observer position and pupil function, lenslet parameters, and type of reconstruction. Numerical tests are presented to verify the theoretical analysis.

Emission tomography with a large-hole collimator (CACAO): a possible new way to improve radionuclide imaging.

This work aims to improve the quality of scintigraphy. It evaluates the use of a large-hole collimator, the Computer Aided Collimation Gamma Camera Project (CACAO), in SPECT. Acquisition data from the same object were simulated for CACAO and for a conventional collimator. Better signal-to-noise ratios were found for CACAO images, whatever the number of emitted photons. This work demonstrates that high-resolution images may be obtained with large-hole collimators. The combination of CACAO and pixilated detectors may further improve radionuclide imaging.

Projection-based improvement of 3D reconstructions from motion-impaired dental cone beam CT data.

Purpose Computed tomography (CT) and, in particular, cone beam CT (CBCT) have been increasingly used as a diagnostic tool in recent years. Patient motion during acquisition is common in CBCT due to long scan times. This results in degraded image quality and may potentially increase the number of retakes. Our aim was to develop a marker-free iterative motion correction algorithm that works on the projection images and is suitable for local tomography. Image and Copy in French Deconstruction of Platonism

This paper aims at investigating the relationship between some contemporary Interpretations of Plato's Ontology and the Theory of Image-Copy connection developed in many Dialogues such as Sophist, Philebus, Timaeus and Republic. By examinating some of the most relevant criticisms to this Theory cast by french Philosophers such as Deleuze and Derrida and by retracing the roots of these criticisms to the common source of Nietzsche's and Heidegger's Thought, the paper argues a way to overcome the stiff opposition which is commonly held between these two fronts, thus trying to refine the hermeneutical approach to Plato which almost dominated the XX century.

Supershape Recovery from 3D Data Sets

In this paper, we apply supershapes and R-functions to surface recovery from 3D data sets. Individual supershapes are separately recovered from a segmented mesh. R-functions are used to perform Boolean operations between the reconstructed parts to obtain a single implicit equation of the reconstructed object that is used to define a global error reconstruction function. We present surface recovery results ranging from single synthetic data to real complex objects involving the composition of several supershapes and holes.
