Recent advances in methods, policies and technologies at sustainable energy systems development
2022
Following the 2015 Paris Agreement and other agreements which have been signed after, sustainable energy development is becoming the major goal in many countries. EU have set the targets to reduce the annual greenhouse gas emission by 40% in 2030 and 80% for 2050 compared with 1990 levels. For achieving this ambitious energy policy, three major technological changes are available: energy savings on the demand side, efficiency improvements in the energy production, and replacement of fossil fuels by various sources of renewable energy. Also, for realization cited three major technological changes the support of the multi-disciplinary scientific knowledge is needed. Therefore, from the beginn…
Automatic segmentation and 3D reconstruction of intravascular ultrasound images for a fast preliminar evaluation of vessel pathologies.
2007
Abstract Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) imaging is used along with X-ray coronary angiography to detect vessel pathologies. Manual analysis of IVUS images is slow and time-consuming and it is not feasible for clinical purposes. A semi-automated method is proposed to generate 3D reconstructions from IVUS video sequences, so that a fast diagnose can be easily done, quantifying plaque length and severity as well as plaque volume of the vessels under study. The methodology described in this work has four steps: a pre-processing of IVUS images, a segmentation of media–adventitia contour, a detection of intima and plaque and a 3D reconstruction of the vessel. Preprocessing is intended to remove …
Effects of pre-operative isolation on postoperative pulmonary complications after elective surgery: an international prospective cohort study
2021
We aimed to determine the impact of pre-operative isolation on postoperative pulmonary complications after elective surgery during the global SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. We performed an international prospective cohort study including patients undergoing elective surgery in October 2020. Isolation was defined as the period before surgery during which patients did not leave their house or receive visitors from outside their household. The primary outcome was postoperative pulmonary complications, adjusted in multivariable models for measured confounders. Pre-defined sub-group analyses were performed for the primary outcome. A total of 96,454 patients from 114 countries were included and overall, 26…
MULTI-SCALE ANALYSIS OF LUNG COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY IMAGES
2007
A computer-aided detection (CAD) system for the identification of lung internal nodules in low-dose multi-detector helical Computed Tomography (CT) images was developed in the framework of the MAGIC-5 project. The three modules of our lung CAD system, a segmentation algorithm for lung internal region identification, a multi-scale dot-enhancement filter for nodule candidate selection and a multi-scale neural technique for false positive finding reduction, are described. The results obtained on a dataset of low-dose and thin-slice CT scans are shown in terms of free response receiver operating characteristic (FROC) curves and discussed.

On constrained Volterra cubic stochastic operators
2020
We consider constrained Volterra cubic stochastic operators and construct several Lyapunov functions for the constrained Volterra cubic stochastic operators. We prove that such kind operators do no...
Design of unknown inputs proportional integral observers for TS fuzzy models
2014
In this paper the design of unknown inputs proportional integral observers for Takagi-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy models subject to unmeasurable decision variables is proposed. These unknown inputs affect both state and output of the system. The synthesis of these observers is based on two hypotheses that the unknown inputs are under the polynomials form with their kth derivatives zero for the first one and bounded norm for the second one, hence two approaches. The Lyapunov theory and L"2-gain technique are used to develop the stability conditions of such observers in LMIs (linear matrix inequality) formulation. A simulation example is given to validate and compare the proposed design conditions for …
Barn og unge i familieterapi : en litteraturstudie om hvordan barn og unge opplever å være deltager i familieterapi
2014
Masteroppgave i psykisk helsearbeid ME504 Universitetet i Agder 2014 The aim of this paper is to bring forth knowledge about children and young people's statements about how it is to be a participant in family therapy. To work out and produce this knowledge a literature review has been used as method. An extensive search was conducted in different databases. It turned out to be little research in this field of research. The articles this study is based on are all English, and concerns children and young people's statements about their experience of being participants in family therapy. There are a total of 7 articles included in this study, with participants from 5 to 22 years. The findings…
NEXT-100 Technical Design Report (TDR). Executive summary
2012
[EN] In this Technical Design Report (TDR) we describe the NEXT-100 detector that will search for neutrinoless double beta decay (ßß0v) in 136XE at the Laboratorio Subterráneo de Canfranc (LSC), in Spain. The document formalizes the design presented in our Conceptual Design Report (CDR): an electroluminescence time projection chamber, with separate readout planes for calorimetry and tracking, located, respectively, behind cathode and anode. The detector is designed to hold a maximum of about 150 kg of xenon at 15 bar, or 100 kg at 10 bar. This option builds in the capability to increase the total isotope mass by 50% while keeping the operating pressure at a manageable level. The readout pla…
Non linear and linearized combination coefficients for modal pushover analysis
2017
Current design practice and seismic codes tend to assess seismic demand of buildings by Non linear Static Analysis (NSA), based on the evaluation of the pushover curve. Earlier non-linear static analysis procedure estimate the response peak value by evaluating the push-over curve adopting a distribution of invariant forces proportional to the fundamental vibration mode. In order to include the effect of higher modes several multimodal push-over analysis procedures were proposed in literature. In In the most famous of these, namely Modal Pushover Analysis (MPA), nodal response peak values are obtained by combination of "modal" responses by the traditional SRSS or CQC methods: the use of the …
