Ethical realism before social constructionism
2021
In this article, I explore the idea that there is a fundamental ethical aspect that precedes social constructionism. I suggest that within social constructionism we can identify a development from seeing knowledge as socially constructed ( epistemological social constructionism) to seeing not only knowledge, but also corporeal ways of being as socially constructed ( ontological social constructionism). As a next step, I propose incorporating what I refer to as ethical realism in social constructionist perspectives. In the encounter with the other human being, I argue that there is a real ethical impulse that precedes social constructionism and puts it in motion. This impulse is real in the…
Drivers and barriers of circular economy business models: Where we are now, and where we are heading
2022
Literature on the circular economy business model (CEBM) has witnessed a sharp upsurge in recent years. Although scholars have investigated CEBM from several perspectives, including the green business model, waste management, digital technology, the supply chain, and the financial impact of CEBM, critical analysis of the extant literature has not attracted scholarly attention. The current systematic literature review (SLR) on CEBM is an attempt to critically analyse and appraise the prior findings by following robust research protocols. We analysed a pool of 126 studies to identify the thematic research areas, recognise the research gaps and present future research agendas. Subsequently, we…
Can small regions construct regional advantages? The case of four Norwegian regions
2012
Accepted version of an article in the journal: European Urban and Regional Studies. Also availble from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1177/0969776412439200 The conceptual framework of constructing regional advantage (CRA) is implicitly relevant for large, well-off regions that have strong regional innovation systems, a diversity of industrial sectors and resourceful firms that can partake in global knowledge networks. This paper discusses the extent to which small regions, with less developed regional innovation systems, may also constitute the basis for developing regional advantage. Four cases of regional industries dominated by different innovation modes make up the empirical tes…
Signal Spectrum-Based Machine Learning Approach for Fault Prediction and Maintenance of Electrical Machines
2022
Industrial revolution 4.0 has enabled the advent of new technological advancements, including the introduction of information technology with physical devices. The implementation of information technology in industrial applications has helped streamline industrial processes and make them more cost-efficient. This combination of information technology and physical devices gave birth to smart devices, which opened up a new research area known as the Internet of Things (IoT). This has enabled researchers to help reduce downtime and maintenance costs by applying condition monitoring on electrical machines utilizing machine learning algorithms. Although the industry is trying to move from schedu…
Image Processing and Measurement of the Bubble Properties in a Bubbling Fluidized Bed Reactor
2022
The efficiency of a fluidized bed reactor depends on the bed fluid dynamic behavior, which is significantly influenced by the bubble properties. This work investigates the bubble properties of a bubbling fluidized bed reactor using computational particle fluid dynamic (CPFD) simulations and electrical capacitance tomography (ECT) measurements. The two-dimensional images (along the reactor horizontal and vertical planes) of the fluidized bed are obtained from the CPFD simulations at different operating conditions. The CPFD model was developed in a commercial CPFD software Barracuda Virtual Reactor 20.0.1. The bubble behavior and bed fluidization behavior are characterized form the bubble pro…
Digital Twin of HVAC system (HVACDT) for multiobjective optimization of energy consumption and thermal comfort based on BIM framework with ANN-MOGA
2022
This study proposes a novel Digital Twin framework of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVACDT) system to reduce energy consumption while increasing thermal comfort. The framework is developed to help the facility managers better understand the building operation to enhance the HVAC system function. The Digital Twin framework is based on Building Information Modelling (BIM) combined with a newly created plug-in to receive real-time sensor data as well as thermal comfort and optimization process through Matlab programming. In order to determine if the suggested framework is practical, data were collected from a Norwegian office building between August 2019 and October 2021 and used…
Intelligent estimation of wind farm performance with direct and indirect ‘point’ forecasting approaches integrating several NWP models
2022
Reliable wind power forecasting is essential for profitably trading wind energy in the electricity market and efficiently integrating wind-generated electricity into the power grids. In this paper, we propose short- and medium-term wind power forecasting systems targeted to the Nordic energy market, which integrate inputs on the wind flow conditions from three numerical weather prediction sources. A point forecasting scheme is adopted, which forecasts the power at the individual turbine level. Both direct and indirect forecasting approaches are considered and compared. An automated machine-learning pipeline, built and optimized using genetic programming, is implemented for developing the pr…
Thermo-piezo-rheological characterization of asphalt concrete
2022
The linear viscoelastic (LVE) properties of asphalt concrete is investigated in this paper using a controlled-strain triaxial dynamic modulus test over wide frequency, temperature, and confining pressure ranges. The time–temperature-pressure superposition principle (TTPSP) is applied to validate the thermo-piezo-rheological simplicity of the tested materials using triaxial master curves. The LVE response is found highly stress-dependent at intermediate and high temperatures. The Prony series modeling of time-domain properties ascertains that confining pressure strongly correlates with long-term relaxation modulus, the absolute maximum slope of the relaxation modulus, and viscoelastic damage…

Locally Produced UHPC: The Influence of Type and Content of Steel Fibres
2021
Abstract Ultra-high performance concrete might be a competitive alternative to normal concrete for some purposes. But despite research efforts during decades, utilisation is still not widespread. Reasons include limited competence and material availability. This paper presents one step of a research initiative aimed at facilitating the use of UHPC in Norway. The step presented here comprises the accumulated results from investigations on the influence steel fibres (content, type, and hybrid combination) have on material strength and deformation behaviour of locally produced UHPC, made with constituents found in southern Norway. 231 specimens were tested, spanning nine UHPC mixes. Digital Im…
