High Performance 3D PET Reconstruction Using Spherical Basis Functions on a Polar Grid
2011
Statistical iterative methods are a widely used method of image reconstruction in emission tomography. Traditionally, the image space is modelled as a combination of cubic voxels as a matter of simplicity. After reconstruction, images are routinely filtered to reduce statistical noise at the cost of spatial resolution degradation. An alternative to produce lower noise during reconstruction is to model the image space with spherical basis functions. These basis functions overlap in space producing a significantly large number of non-zero elements in the system response matrix (SRM) to store, which additionally leads to long reconstruction times. These two problems are partly overcome by expl…
The factorization method for electrical impedance tomography data from a new planar device.
2006
We present numerical results for two reconstruction methods for a new planar electrical impedance tomography device. This prototype allows noninvasive medical imaging techniques if only one side of a patient is accessible for electric measurements. The two reconstruction methods have different properties: one is a linearization-type method that allows quantitative reconstructions; the other one, that is, the factorization method, is a qualitative one, and is designed to detect anomalies within the body.
Now you see me: perception as a basic principle in foreign languages learning
2016
The relation between human values and perceived situation characteristics in everyday life
2018
Values refer to abstract beliefs which serve as guidelines in peoples’ life and affect the way people and events are evaluated. Simultaneously, unlike attitudes, values transcend specific actions, and situations. While recent research showed that values are related to the attention and interpretation of situational information in standardized laboratory settings, up to date hardly any empirical work investigated how values relate to situation perception in daily life. In our study, we assessed the relation between the endorsement of human values and situation characteristics (i.e., the 8 DIAMONDS). Using the Day Reconstruction Method in two samples (German and US-American), we found that es…
Acromion clavicular joint reconstruction with LArS ligament in acute dislocation
2019
Background: The acromion clavicular joint dislocations are common injuries of the shoulder. The severity is dependent upon the degree of ligamentous injury. Surgical treatment is typically performed in higher grade acromioclavicular separation with several static and dynamic operative procedures with or without primary ligament replacement. Methods: 47 patients with acute Rockwood type III, IV, and V injuries were treated surgically with LARS reconstruction. The success of technique was evaluated by radiographic outcomes for each patient at every follow-up visit (one, three, 12 months), while to assess pain reduction and clinical evaluation Visual Analogue scale score (VAS) and Constant-Murl…
IMPLANT-PROSTHETIC REHABILITATION OF UNIDENTARE EDENTATION – PRINCIPLES OF TREATMENT
2015
For a practitioner with experience, the restoration with one or two individual crowns is relatively simple from clinical and technical point of view, but if a single crown has to be rebuilt in areas with major aesthetic concern, the prosthetic restoration becomes a challenge for any team of professionals. A major challenge for such a team si the unidental restoration, with or without implants, of a single incisor from the frontal maxillar area, especially the central superior incisors. These teeth have a highly aesthetic part since they are in direct connection with the shape and the aspect of the face. In the evaluation of the dental shape of the central incisors we can use different param…
Continuous Improvement on Detailed Design Phase : A Process Perspective
2020
The construction project being studied is a government investment related to the relocation of a biomedical institute delivering research-based knowledge and contingency support in the fields of animal health, fish health and food safety. The project covers a total of 63,000 square meters distributed over 10 buildings with a very high degree of complexity. The design alone has required 1 million hours, which relates to a client cost of about 100 million Euro. The purpose of this paper is to study the applied methodology for managing the detailed design to identify lessons learned from the project. The theory underlying the study is inspired by lean design management and design theory linked…
Optimizing artificial neural networks for the evaluation of asphalt pavement structural performance
2019
Artificial Neural Networks represent useful tools for several engineering issues. Although they were adopted in several pavement-engineering problems for performance evaluation, their application on pavement structural performance evaluation appears to be remarkable. It is conceivable that defining a proper Artificial Neural Network for estimating structural performance in asphalt pavements from measurements performed through quick and economic surveys produces significant savings for road agencies and improves maintenance planning. However, the architecture of such an Artificial Neural Network must be optimised, to improve the final accuracy and provide a reliable technique for enriching d…
Optimizing the Shape of Welded Constructions Made through the Technique “Temper Bead Welding”
2020
Welded constructions are subject to high stresses during operation. One solution for improving the behavior in exploitation of welded constructions in various cases is to use the welding technique “temper bead welding” (TBW). In the paper, the optimization of the geometry of the welded joints by the TBW technique was performed. Thus, corner welded joints made of S355 steel were analyzed. To make the welded joints, three layers of welding seams were deposited, and the intermediate layers were processed through cutting with various radii. To analyze the influence of the size of these rays on the behavior of welded constructions, a research program based on factorial experiences wa…
