The O2 diffusion constants D and K of tumor tissue (DS-Carcinosarcoma in the rat kidney) were determined at temperatures of 20, 30, 37, and 40 degrees C. The following mean values were obtained for the conditions of 37 degrees C: D = 1.75-10(-5) cm2/s and K = 1.9-10(-5) mlO2/cm-min-atm. Within the range of 20-40 degrees C, temperature variations in tumor tissue cause changes in the O2 diffusion coefficient D of 2.0-2.5%/C and in the Krogh O2 diffusion constant K of 0.5-1.5%/C. The measured O2 diffusion constants for tumor tissue correspond to values of normal tissue with similar water content. Does a global wealth tax reduce inequality? When Piketty meets Mankiw

Abstract We investigate the effects of a wealth tax on consumption and wealth inequality in a standard small open economy model featuring labour income heterogeneity. We show that consumption inequality and wealth inequality are identical in the long run if consumption growth exceeds output growth. Under this condition, the wealth tax reduces long run inequality under two additional conditions. First, the difference between the rate of return on wealth and the growth rate, r − g , is higher than a positive threshold. Second, the tax rate is lower than a cap which rises in r − g but decreases in labour income heterogeneity.

A Joint Reading of Positional and Relational Goods

Both relational and positional goods are based upon an idea of joint consumption – though with opposite signs. Indeed, in both cases, individuals’ consumption choices take into account not only the individuals themselves, but others, as well. Given that relational goods provide a form of identity to their consumers, we show that a certain degree of positionality emerges within the consumption of relational goods. Analogously, except in a two-agent context, each positional good also has a relational component. What emerges is a complex structure of economic outcomes based on both relational and positional motives.
CiNetStrain - Wireless Strain Gauge Network - Calibration and Reliability Measurements

Wireless sensor networks can be extended to include numerous different sensing devices. Strain gauges are the most common nondestructive sensing elements for measuring surface strain. This paper discusses the design, for the wireless CiNet network, of a strain gauge measurement system, which would make strain measurements more flexible while opening new targets of application in addition to those that traditional wired strain measuring systems can offer. The calibration and validation of the wireless strain measurements as well as energy consumption issues are also brought under observation.
Wireless photoplethysmography finger sensor probe

A sensitive, digital, wireless sensor probe has been developed for photoplethysmography (PPG) measurements. It uses standard light emitting source and detector. The main advantage of this approach is to measure discharge time of the photodiode as amplitude of PPG signal. It reduces the cost, dimensions, power consumption and filtering of the device. First results of distant monitoring of heart rate using the newly developed sensor probe are presented.
