Computational Offloading in Mobile Edge with Comprehensive and Energy Efficient Cost Function: A Deep Learning Approach
2021
In mobile edge computing (MEC), partial computational offloading can be intelligently investigated to reduce the energy consumption and service delay of user equipment (UE) by dividing a single task into different components. Some of the components execute locally on the UE while the remaining are offloaded to a mobile edge server (MES). In this paper, we investigate the partial offloading technique in MEC using a supervised deep learning approach. The proposed technique, comprehensive and energy efficient deep learning-based offloading technique (CEDOT), intelligently selects the partial offloading policy and also the size of each component of a task to reduce the service delay and energy …
Reducing Power Consumption of Wireless Networks Through Collaborative DMC Mobile Clusters
2017
Reducing the energy consumption of the wireless network is significantly important to the economic and ecological sustainability of the ICT industry, as high energy consumption may limit the performance of wireless networks and is one of the main network costs. To solve energy consumption problem, especially on the terminal side, a scheme known as distributed mobile cloud (DMC) is considered to be a potential solution. Multiple mobile terminals (MTs) can cooperative to take advantage of good quality links among the MTs to save energy when receiving from the Base Station (BS). In this paper, we aim to find the optimal transmit power to further reduce the energy consumption of DMC. From simul…

Continuous energy-efficient monitoring model for mobile ad hoc networks
2021
The monitoring of mobile ad hoc networks is an observation task that consists of analysing the operational status of these networks while evaluating their functionalities. In order to allow the whole network and applications to work properly, the monitoring task has become of considerable importance. It must be carried out in real-time by performing measurements, logs, configurations, etc. However, achieving continuous energy-efficient monitoring in mobile wireless networks is very challenging considering the environment features as well as the unpredictable behavior of the participating nodes. This paper outlines the challenges of continuous energy-efficient monitoring over mobile ad hoc n…
MAC Protocols for Wake-up Radio: Principles, Modeling and Performance Analysis
2018
[EN] In wake-up radio (WuR) enabled wireless sensor networks (WSNs), a node triggers a data communication at any time instant by sending a wake-up call (WuC) in an on-demand manner. Such wake-up operations eliminate idle listening and overhearing burden for energy consumption in duty-cycled WSNs. Although WuR exhibits its superiority for light traffic, it is inefficient to handle high traffic load in a network. This paper makes an effort towards improving the performance of WuR under diverse load conditions with a twofold contribution. We first propose three protocols that support variable traffic loads by enabling respectively clear channel assessment (CCA), backoff plus CCA, and adaptive …
Should I use touchscreen tablets rather than computers and mice in TDS trials?
2016
International audience; Internet technologies are increasingly used as tools in sensory analysis. Thus, it would be a natural step forward for sensory science to move beyond the laboratory, into people's homes. Therefore, working with consumer IT devices like touchscreen tablets in sensory science should be taken into consideration. Working with the intuitive concept of dominance, Temporal Dominance of Sensations (TDS) requires a non-analytical answer from the subject. Using a touchscreen tablet instead of a classic mouse could reduce the cognitive load and favor a more instinctive answer. Indeed, it was proven that touch interaction is natural and efficient, and that finger pointing is fas…
A stepwise power tariff model with game theory based on Monte-Carlo simulation and its applications for household, agricultural, commercial and indus…
2019
Abstract The concept of game theory has been adapted in the regulation of retail electricity market within the constraints of stepwise power tariff (SPT) for economic energy consumption. The objective is to increase the penetration level of renewable energy sources (RES) and electric vehicles with implementation of Bayesian game model for categorized (i.e. household, agricultural, commercial & industrial) consumers. Bayesian game model is based on degree of information shared by consumers due to their selfish nature. The main goal is to create an algorithm using constraints RES, storage through electric vehicles, electric wiring, number of consumer, efficient equipment, social status of fam…
ACT-MAC: An asynchronous cooperative transmission MAC protocol for WSNs
2014
Duty cycling (DC) has been proven to be an efficient mechanism to reduce energy consumption in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). On the other hand, cooperative transmission (CT) enables longer range transmission to hop over an energy-hole node, resulting in more balanced energy consumption among nodes. In the literature, there exist few CT MAC protocols for DC operated WSNs and these protocols rely on fixed cycle length. In this paper, we propose a novel variable cycle length protocol, namely asynchronous cooperative transmission medium access control (ACT-MAC), which contains both features of reducing the unnecessary idle listening by DC and mitigating the energy-hole by making use of CT. T…
PTNet: A parameterizable data center network
2016
This paper presents PTNet, a new data center topology that is specifically designed to offer a high and parameterized scalability with just one layer architecture. Furthermore, despite its high scalability, PTNet grants a reduced latency and a high performance in terms of capacity and fault tolerance. Consequently, compared to widely known data center networks, our new topology shows better capacity, robustness, cost-effectiveness and less power consumption. Conducted experiments and theoretical analyses illustrate the performance of the novel system. 2016 IEEE. Scopus
The Integration and Sharing of Resources for a New Quality of Living
2014
In this chapter, the issues of sharing of information and of information technologies use are dealt with from the juridical point of view, thr…
