The importance of wine attributes for purchase decisions: A study of Italian consumers’ perception

2013

"The importance of extrinsic and intrinsic attributes of wine for purchase decisions is the object of a lively debate. As a matter of fact, in recent decades, the shift of consumption motivations from nutritional purposes to drinking for pleasure has caused a persistent decrease in the overall demand. However, the increasing number of product varieties and brands of domestic and imported wine, as well as the increased diversity in wine styles and prices, make the identification of wine purchase drivers difficult. This article investigates the importance of product attributes for Italian consumers when choosing wine. Specifically, a class of statistical models for ordinal data, namely CUB, i…

Sport tourism consumer experiences: a comprehensive model

2004

The interest in physical activity and vacations has created a growth in the tourism industry and has greatly modified strategies within the industry. Sport tourism is expanding and many forms of consumption exist within this area. The object of this study is to propose a new framework for analysing sport tourism consumption. This framework illustrates that consumer choices depend upon vacation destinations and sport services offered in relation to the experiences that vacationers are seeking. The originality of this analysis is that it integrates spatial and social dimensions stemming from environmental psychology, ethnology and sociology.

Farmers' costs of environmental regulation: Reducing the consumption of nitrogen in citrus farming

2007

Abstract Environmental externalities in agriculture, and the choice of suitable instruments to integrate environmental concerns into agricultural policies, are a matter of interest for the Common Agricultural Policy. In this paper, we use Data Envelopment Analysis techniques to assess the impact on farms' performance of two environmentally-friendly regulations aimed at abating consumption of inorganic nitrogen in Spanish citrus farming: levies on purchased nitrogen and nitrogen use permits for farms. By comparing farms' short-run maximum profits under both unregulated and regulated scenarios a regulation cost index is computed. Our results show that nitrogen overuse is mostly a matter of ma…

A Holistic Approach to Comprehending the Complexity of the Post-growth Era: The Emerging Profile

2015

The goal of this study is to investigate the problems caused by the rapid growth of the global economy, coupled with high population growth and the excessive exploitation of natural resources. The global economy will not be able to maintain its current speed of growth in the long term, so a paradigm shift in production and consumption is necessary, if the collapse of ecosystems and the concurrent depletion of natural resources are to be avoided. This is the reason why capitalism needs to take a turn towards a sustainable and naturally harmonized development model.
