Performance and energy optimisation in CPUs through fuzzy knowledge representation

2019

Abstract This paper presents an automatic design space exploration using processor design knowledge for the multi-objective optimisation of a superscalar microarchitecture enhanced with selective load value prediction (SLVP). We introduced new important SLVP parameters and determined their influence regarding performance, energy consumption, and thermal dissipation. We significantly enlarged initial processor design knowledge expressed through fuzzy rules and we analysed its role in the process of automatic design space exploration. The proposed fuzzy rules improve the diversity and quality of solutions, and the convergence speed of the design space exploration process. Experiments show tha…

Revisiting the controversial role of salsolinol in the neurobiological effects of ethanol: old and new vistas.

2011

The possible involvement of salsolinol (Sal), an endogenous condensation product of ACD (the first metabolite of ethanol) and dopamine, in the neurochemical basis underlying ethanol action has been repeatedly suggested although it has not been unequivocally established, still being a controversial matter of debate. The main goal of this review is to evaluate the presumed contribution of Sal to ethanol effects summarizing the reported data since the discovery in the 1970s of Sal formation in vitro during ethanol metabolism until the more recent studies characterizing its behavioral and neurochemical effects. Towards this end, we first analyze the production and detection of Sal, in different…

The energy and environmental impacts of Italian households consumptions: An input–output approach

2011

Abstract Promoting sustainable consumption and production patterns is a key challenge for the future, in order to use the Earth resources efficiently, to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions, and to decouple the economic growth from the environmental degradation. New or customized methods have to be applied to support decisions makers in the choice of environmental-friendly products, and to select policy priorities and sustainable strategies. A modified input–output model can aid to analyse the relationships among economic growth, energy consumptions and pollutants, in order to assess the energy and environmental impacts due to the actual production and consumption patterns. The following pa…

Toxicity of lindane, atrazine, and deltamethrin to early life stages of zebrafish (Brachydanio rerio).

1990

Fertilized eggs of zebrafish were exposed under flow-through conditions to several concentrations of the following pesticides: lindane 40, 80, 110, 130, and 150 micrograms/liter; atrazine 300, 1300, and 9100 micrograms/liter; deltamethrin 0.5, 0.8, and 1.2 micrograms/liter. Hatching, abnormalities in development (external deformations, edema, etc.), and mortality were recorded over a period of 35 days. At the end of the experiment, the body lengths of the fish were measured. Survival of juvenile fish after 35 days was reduced by increasing concentrations of all xenobiotics tested: lindane enhanced the mortality from 110 micrograms/liter and atrazine from 1300 micrograms/liter, and deltameth…

Energy and environmental assessment of the institutional catering in Lombardy (Italy)

2018

Climate change calls for decisive actions to match sustainable development goals, among which key factors are the reduction of energy consumption and carbon footprint. Agri-food sector is one of the main priority areas contained in the European Sustainable Production and Consumption policies, aiming to create more sustainable consumption and production patterns and pushing for environmental international agreements for climate change mitigation and national laws for the efficient use of resources. Public restoration plays a central role in the food consumption sector, at least in developed countries. In particular, institutional catering is playing a relevant role in outdoor meals provided …

Transmedia Experience and Narrative Transportation

2016

The aim of this research is to better understand the impact of transmedia storytelling on consumers' experiences in the cultural field (e.g., at a museum or heritage site). Transmedia storytelling refers to the interaction among different forms of media leading to convergence (telling a single story across multiple platforms and forms, namely, using digital technologies). This article discusses whether this multidimensionality of platforms enables a greater appropriation of the story and improves consumers' experience with the cultural object and whether the transmedia experience can lead to a positive attitude toward transmedia platforms and the cultural object.

Personal and Social Consequences of Psychotropic Substance Use: A Population-Based Internet Survey

2022

Background and objectives: Drug abuse has become a major worldwide health concern among all age groups. The present study analyses substance misuse and its social and personal consequences using a population-based internet survey in Spain. Materials and Methods: Screening for drug abuse (of alcohol, marijuana/hashish and psychostimulants) and its related risks and problems was performed using the Car, Relax, Alone, Forget, Friends, Trouble (CRAFFT) score. Socio-demographic factors, depressive, anxiety and stress symptoms as well as health habits were also evaluated. We used Linear regression methods to compare each variable’s individual contribution so as to determine which one best explain…

Motivational drivers of behavioral online brand engagement in content consumption context : examining brand commitment and trust in online content as…

2015

The Internet has become increasingly important for companies in recent years. However, online environment possesses many challenges for both managers and researchers. Moreover, it is not until recently engagement concept has begun to emerge in the marketing literature. However, it is known that engagement has a strong influence on many favorable customer outcomes. Thus, engagement is a fruitful research topic in online environment. The purpose of this explanatory study is to examine behavioral dimension of online brand engagement in context of content consumption. This study examines the effects of five motivational drivers (community, information, entertainment, identity, and remuneration)…
