Scaffolding through dialogic teaching in early school classrooms

The present study examines what types of dialogic teaching patterns can be identified in the early school years, and how teachers scaffold children's participation and shared understanding through dialogic teaching. Thirty recorded lessons from preschool to Grade 2 in Finnish classrooms were analysed using qualitative content analysis. Two teacher-initiated and two child-initiated dialogic teaching patterns were identified. Teacher's scaffolding in teacher-initiated dialogues was characterised by high responsibility in maintaining the interactional flow and utilisation of diverse strategies. Artikkelissa tarkastellaan lukion historian opettajien käsityksiä aineistopohjaisen esseen arvioinnista ja siihen vaikuttavista piirteistä tiedonalan tekstitaitojen näkökulmasta. Aineisto koostuu opettajien ryhmähaastatteluista ja lukiolaisten kirjoittamista aineistopohjaisista esseistä. Haastattelut analysoitiin laadullisen sisällönanalyysin avulla ja esseiden kielellisiä piirteitä systeemis-funktionaalisen kieliteorian avulla. Ethical issues in the teaching and learning of health topics in schools: the conceptions of teacher trainees

There has been little research on how teacher trainees can be educated to deal with ethical issues, or on trainees' conceptions of these issues. Using written essays, this study aimed to examine health education teacher trainees' (N = 35) conceptions of the ethical aspects involved in teaching and learning health topics. A qualitative content analysis revealed three broad themes: health education as an ethical subject, the teacher as an ethical professional, and spaces for learning. The results reflect the content areas focused on in health education teacher training, and provide new insights into topics that can be useful in developing teacher training. peerReviewed

The promotion of tourism in Italian regions from a sensorial perspective: a website content analysis

Recent tourism literature has identified the sensory dimension as key to understanding, planning and marketing tourist experiences. This paper aims to understand to what extent Italian regions consider the sensorial perspective in tourist communication, focusing the analysis on their institutional websites. We used the content analysis method considering two different periods to investigate the evolution of Italian tourism promotion. Discussions of Fatherhood in Male Batterer Treatment Group

The aim of this study was to examine how men who have perpetrated violence toward their partners and participated in batterer group talked about being a father and how they perceived their own fatherhood. The discussion in the group was analyzed qualitatively by using the methods of content analysis. In traditional fatherhood, they talked about avoidant, passiveness, distant, indifference, and authoritative controlling ways of acting. These men also created an image of themselves as active and caring fathers, thus including empathy and nurture in the concept of fatherhood.
