Detection of Subpubic Tumor Causing Bladder Outlet Obstruction by 3D Perineal Ultrasound

This case report shows that 3D perineal ultrasound can be superior to clinical examination and routine 2D perineal ultrasound in the detection of an unusual subpubic tumor. A 73-year-old female patient was referred to our urogynecological outpatient unit complaining of over-active bladder symptoms and voiding dysfunction for 3 years. Gynecological examination found no signs of pelvic organ prolapse or abnormality in the vaginal cavity. Routine 2D perineal ultrasound showed substantial residual urine (ca. 300 ml on catheter) and limited bladder neck mobility, but no signs of pelvic organ prolapse. Abstract Overactive bladder (OAB) is the term introduced by the International Continence Society in 2002 to describe the symptoms of urgency, with or without urge incontinence, usually in the presence of frequency and nocturia. Community-based prevalence studies have shown an estimated 16% of the adult population in the US and Europe suffers the symptoms of OAB, and in many cases the symptoms can have a profound effect on quality of life. Altemeier's procedure for complete rectal prolapse; outcome and function in 43 consecutive female patients.

Background The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate morbidity, mortality, postoperative function and recurrences in patients treated by Altemeier’s rectosigmoidectomy for complete rectal prolapse in a referral center for pelvic floor functional disorders. Methods Peri-operative data on 43 consecutive female patients were reviewed. At follow-up any change in pelvic floor function and recurrences were determined. Thirty four patients were assessed at a median interval of 49 (2–135) months, six being deceased for reason not related to the prolapse and three lost to follow-up. Celem pracy była ocena, jak napięcie mięśni dna miednicy (MDM) mierzonego za pomocą sEMG wpływa na ocenę obiektywną i subiektywną trzymania moczu oraz zaburzeń erekcji. W badaniach uczestniczyło 10 mężczyzn, będących po zabiegu prostatektomii. Nasilenie objawów nietrzymania moczu oceniano na podstawie kwestionariusza ICIQ-SF, aktywność seksualną kwestionariuszem IIEF-5. Nie wykazano istotnego statystycznie związku między napięciem MDM, ocenianego za pomocą sEMG, a obiektywnymi wyznacznikami nietrzymania moczu, jednakże zaobserwowano tendencję, że niższe napięcie MDM występuje częściej u chorych ze wszystkimi dolegliwościami w ocenie subiektywnej.

Physical activity improves health and may delay the onset of several chronic diseases. For women in particular, the rate of these diseases accelerates at middle age; therefore it is important to identify the determinants of health-enhancing physical activity during midlife in this population. In this study, we focused on determinants that are unique to the female sex, such as childbearing and menopause. The main objective was to characterize the level of physical activity and differences between active and inactive middle-aged Finnish women.
