Higher intracoronary attenuation improves diagnostic accuracy in MDCT coronary angiography

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to investigate whether the amount of intracoronary attenuation influences the diagnostic accuracy of MDCT coronary angiography in the detection of clinically significant stenosis. Ultrastructural biologic effects of sonography with pulse inversion and microbubble contrast in rabbit liver

Purpose This prospective study was conducted to evaluate the biologic effects of microbubble destruction with pulse-inversion harmonic imaging on rabbit liver parenchyma. Methods The livers of 6 albino rabbits were examined sonographically by a single investigator. Three rabbits underwent contrast-enhanced sonography, with scanning starting 5 seconds after injection by using pulse-inversion harmonic imaging with a mechanical index of 1.2. Four time-triggered images were recorded at a rate of 1 frame every 2 seconds. Crystal inclusions in subepithelial fibroblasts of the brood pouch of sea horses (hippocampus kuda)

In the subepithelial connective tissue of the inactive broodpouch of sea horses (Hippocampus kuda), fibroblasts with striking crystal inclusions are described light microscopically and electron microscopically in the tunica adventitia of capillaries. These very electron dense crystals turn out to be hexagonal prisms of heterogeneous structures. Results of the X-ray microanalysis and comparison with other crystalline cell inclusions so far described allow the conclusion that they contain an iron protein stored as crystals. The structure and genesis of these crystals as well as the possible importance of the iron protein for the biology of these animals are discussed.

[Gadolinium-containing contrast agents: Gadoterat-meglumine is safe in patients with chronic renal failure].

Objective To prospectively compare the renal safety of meglumine gadoterate (Gd-DOTA)-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to a control group (unenhanced MRI) in high-risk patients. Methods Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) scheduled for MRI procedures were screened. The primary endpoint was the percentage of patients with an elevation of serum creatinine levels, measured 72 ± 24 h after the MRI procedure, by at least 25 % or 44.2 μmol/l (0.5 mg/dl) from baseline. The main objective of the present study was to determine the minimal optical deviation responsible for cognitive after-effects in healthy individuals and to explore whether there was a relationship between the degree of optical deviation and cognitive after-effects. Corneo-scleral contact lens in a piggyback system for keratoconus: A case report.

Purpose: We describe a case of fitting a corneo-scleral contact lens with a multi-aspheric geometry design (MAGD CScL) on top of a daily silicone hydrogel lens (piggyback system) for keratoconus management. Methods: A 48-year-old man using soft toric contact lenses required an improvement in the unsatisfactory quality of his vision. ERP correlates of letter identity and letter position are modulated by lexical frequency

The encoding of letter position is a key aspect in all recently proposed models of visual-word recognition. We analyzed the impact of lexical frequency on letter position assignment by examining the temporal dynamics of lexical activation induced by pseudowords extracted from words of different frequencies. After intensive, long-term musical training, the auditory system of a musician is specifically tuned to perceive musical sounds. We wished to find out whether a musician's auditory system also develops increased sensitivity to any sound of everyday life, experiencing them as noise.
