Optical properties and structure particularities of LiNbO 3 crystals grown from a boron-doped melt

2019

A series of LiNbO3:B crystals was grown from the melt doped by boron. It is shown that LiNbO3:B crystals possess an increased resistance to optical damage. We have found changes according to Raman spectra confirming the ordering of Li+, Nb5+ cations and vacancies along the polar axis. The chemical interactions were studied in the system Li2O–B2O3–Nb2O5. Boron cations are unable to incorporate into a cation sublattice of LiNbO3, but they change the physic-chemical structure of a melt. It contributes to an increased structure and optical uniformity of LiNbO3:B.

Grain growth in Na 0.5 Bi 0.5 TiO 3 -based solid solutions

2019

This paper discusses effects of different dopants, sintering technique and parameters on microstructure and properties of pure and Yb, Er-doped Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3 (NBT). All stoichiometric compositions follow the abnormal grain growth mechanism (AGG) and exhibit a bimodal grain size distribution. Bi over-stoichiometry, two step sintering and hot pressing are effective inhibitors of AGG. Microstructure of sintered NBT greatly influences such properties as dielectric permittivity and depolarization temperature.

Stick-slip and convergence of feedback-controlled systems with Coulomb friction

2020

An analysis of stick-slip behavior and convergence of trajectories in the feedback-controlled motion systems with discontinuous Coulomb friction is provided. A closed-form parameter-dependent stiction region, around an invariant equilibrium set, is proved to be always reachable and globally attractive. It is shown that only asymptotic convergence can be achieved, with at least one but mostly an infinite number of consecutive stick-slip cycles, independent of the initial conditions. Theoretical developments are supported by a number of numerical results with dedicated convergence examples.

Soft Sensor Transferability between Lines of a Sulfur Recovery Unit

2021

Abstract Soft Sensors (SSs) are mathematical models that allow real-time estimation of hard-to-measure variables as a function of easy-to-measure ones in an industrial process, emulating the behavior of existing sensors when they are, for instance, taken off for maintenance. The Sulfur Recovery Unit (SRU) from a refinery is taken in exam. Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN) can capture the nonlinearity of such process but present a high complexity training and a very time-consuming structure optimization. For this reason, strategies to use pre-existing models are here examined by testing the transferability of the SSs between two parallel lines of the process.

A General Methodology for Short-circuit Calculations in Hybrid AC/DC Microgrids

2023

In this paper, the issues related to short-circuit calculations in hybrid AC/DC microgrids are discussed. The reference standard for short-current calculations in DC systems is the IEC 61660, which provides a mathematical formulation of the problem. The standard only includes radial DC grids and does not consider a more complex system, such as meshed DC systems or a hybrid AC/DC microgrid. This paper proposes a generalized approach that can be used independently of the characteristics of the hybrid system. The proposed approach is applied to four test microgrids with different distributed sources and number of nodes and the results are compared with those obtained simulating the same grids …

Modelling, Simulation and Characterization of a Supercapacitor in Automotive Applications

2022

In the energy storage field, supercapacitors (SCs) are gaining more and more attention thanks to features such as high-power density, high life cycles and lack of maintenance. In this article, an improved SC three-branches model which considers the residual charge phenomenon is presented. The procedure to estimate the model parameters and the related experimental set-up are presented. The parameter estimation procedure is repeated for several SCs of the same type. The average parameters are then obtained and used as initial guesses for a recursive least square optimization algorithm, to increase the accuracy of the model. The model of a single SC is then extended to SC banks, testing differ…

On the sure criticality of tasks in activity networks with imprecise durations

2002

BB; International audience; The notion of the necessary criticality (both with respect to path and to activity) of a network with imprecisely defined (by means of intervals or fuzzy intervals) activity duration times is introduced and analyzed. It is shown, in the interval case, that both the problem of asserting whether a given path is necessarily critical and the problem of determining an arbitrary necessarily critical path (more exactly, a subnetwork covering all the necessarily critical. paths) are easy. The corresponding solution algorithms are proposed. However, the problem. of evaluating whether a given activity is necessarily critical does not seem to be such. Certain conditions are…

Dynamic Coalitional TU Games: Distributed Bargaining among Players' Neighbors

2013

We consider a sequence of transferable utility (TU) games where, at each time, the characteristic function is a random vector with realizations restricted to some set of values. The game differs from other ones in the literature on dynamic, stochastic or interval valued TU games as it combines dynamics of the game with an allocation protocol for the players that dynamically interact with each other. The protocol is an iterative and decentralized algorithm that offers a paradigmatic mathematical description of negotiation and bargaining processes. The first part of the paper contributes to the definition of a robust (coalitional) TU game and the development of a distributed bargaining protoc…

On the stability analysis for impulsive switching system with time-varying delay

2014

This paper focuses on the stability and stabilization problem for a neutral impulsive switching system with time-varying delay. Based on LMI method and optimization technologies, some stability criteria are derived for this kind of system. Some example and numerical simulation are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of our theoretical results. Refereed/Peer-reviewed

Reliability-based design optimization of trusses under dynamic shakedown constraints

2019

A reliability-based design optimization problem under dynamic shakedown constraints for elastic perfectly plastic truss structures subjected to stochastic wind actions is presented. The simultaneous presence of quasi-static (cyclic) thermal loads is also considered. As usual in the shakedown theory, the quasi-statical loads will be defined as variable within a deterministic domain, while the dynamic problem will be treated considering an extended Ceradini-Gavarini approach. Some sources of uncertainties are introduced in the structural system and in the load definition. The reliability-optimization problem is formulated as the minimization of the volume of the structure subjected to determi…
